I was reading, and I found this:

The Butterfly Effect: This effect grants the power to cause a hurricane in China to a butterfly flapping its wings in New Mexico.

My Challenge: Make a Butterfly who can actually do this . To elaborate, what I mean is a butterfly able to cause hurricanes and other natural disasters in a different part of the globe by flapping its wings.

Buy a Mirror of Mental Prowess or something. Clairvoyance to where you want to go, step through, whip up your windstorm, step back.

Would you even need to be an awakened butterfly? I think there is a feat that lets druids wildshape into that small of animals.

Or another way

Level 20 Wizard

Shapechange into a butterfly
Cast time stop
Cast greater teleport
Cast Wish to duplicate control winds or control weather
Cast greater teleport to teleport back
You could probably do better than that if you tried but that was the first thing that came to mind XD

Thing is- the OP said that the wing-moving needs to take place in a different part of the globe to the weather effect.

So- no teleport there, cast, teleport back.

You could use a spell like Sending (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/sending.htm) or Telepathic Bond (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/telepathicBond.htm), both of which have an effective unlimited range, to communicate with a servant or construct who can then cast a weather spell or trigger a magic item or whatever. It would, of course, require obtaining such servants/constructs in various locations first, but that's not too tough for a wizard.

Wouldn't wing flapping be the Somatic Component for a butterfly though?

For a druid with Natural Spell, certainly.

Then instead gate in a solar and have IT teleport to the other location and cast control winds. That should work and its cheaper in terms of xp anyway.

There's probably something you can do with a crystal ball to look at another area, and cast the spell on that area, thus starting the windstorm where you are and ending it there.

Either an Awakened Butterfly Bard or a Sublime Chord who Shapechanges into a Butterfly can use his vast Diplomacy and Bluff to convince a Circle of Druids that he is a divinely inspired oracle from Nature itself. He then flaps his wings in patterns he uses Silent Suggestions (or other effect to ensure understanding) to tell the druids to go make weather happen where he wants it to happen.

He flaps in one place, and at least one druid goes on a quest to make the weather change in another.

1) Worship the butterfly as your god of death and destruction.
2) Recruit two converts to believe in the all powerful butterfly of death and destruction.
3) Each recruit brings in two converts.
4) Repeat
5) Repeat

Butterfly is now the GOD of death and destruction. A single flap of his mighty magnificent tiny wings brings horrendous death and destruction around the globe!!!

NOTE: Elan will follow the butterfly. He followed Banjo...:elan:

In Legend: Give the butterfly a friend with the 6th circle of Ranger in new Mexico, the Empty Halls Lesser Item, and the ability to cast Control Winds. You now have hurricanes in New Mexico via butterfly wings.

In Pathfinder: make the butterfly a Wizard, have it use Skinsend and teleport its skin to New Mexico, have it cast Control Weather. The butterfly's body is still in China when it's doing this.

In 3.5/Pathfinder: The butterfly Magic Jars someone, has an accomplice flap its wings, and uses the body it stole to teleport to New Mexico and cast Control Weather. Alternatively, find some way of making Control Magic a touch spell, and have the Butterfly's Familiar deliver it?

Specialize in Divination - weather is a deterministic system that depends sensitively on the initial conditions, so a question of the form "if this butterfly flaps its wing [specify how] at [specify moment], will the occurence of a hurricane at [specify location] within [specify time] become more likely or less likely?" will have a definite answer that should be well within the computing limit of even a minor deity. Sadly, the Limbo domain offers nothing but style to your character concept.

The quote is "Does the flap of a butterfly’s wings in Brazil set off a tornado in Texas?"

Storm of vengeance has a range of long (400 ft + 40 ft./level)
The earth has a circumference of about 24,000 feet.
Based on these numbers, a level 1,583,990 butterfly druid should be able to cast a storm of vengeance that appears on the other side of the planet.
At that level, you've got more than enough room for metamagic feets. Add silent spell and voila, you cast the spell only through flapping your wings.

That's an upper bound on the level. There may be feats/builds you could employ to bring it somewhat below 1583990. (EDIT: This is in PF, by the way)

Well, if you import 3.5, you could just use Circle Magic to replace Levels with Chumps. So Epic Leadership Butterfly cult in a hippie drum circle casting evil weather magic of vengeance.

There is one little problem - you need line of sight.

Also Widen Spell & CL pumping (be cleric for Consumptive Field) make this possible faster.

Reverse method :

1) Make a spell trap, possibly attached to a feather.
Spell : Control Weather (or other hurricane producing spells like sandstorm).
Trigger : Visual. When any detected butterfly flaps its' wings
Type of visual sight : Clairvoyance to a location in New Mexico where chosen butterfly is
Reset : Automatic (put in a 1 day delay if desired)

2) Send/teleport/ship/handcarry said feather to China. Or make a bunch and spread them around the globe.

3) Release butterfly in the designated location in New Mexico.
Every time butterfly flaps wings, a hurricane is set off (unless an optional reset delay is included).
The winds generated will carry the feather randomly around China, so the hurricane doesn't always happen at the same location.

So ..... the butterfly becomes a Small God , and then worshiping him causes him to become the god of death and destruction ?
