A friend of mine has initiated a new campaign and we have brought in five new players into our group. So I'm trying to figure out a character to help everyone and to have some fun as well. In the group currently there is a Dread Necromancer, two Barbarians, and a Half-Dragon Centaur Duskblade. Those are the only ones I know of at this point. I feel the need of a healer and a buffer. The campaign will probably be pretty undead heavy so I was thinking:

Human Wizard 1 LE(Specialist Necromancer)(Two flaws TBD)
Banned Schools: Evocation and Enchantment
Feats: Precocious Apprentice(Invisibility, unless there is a better option for me)
Arcane Disciple(Death Domain)
Heighten Spell and Extend Spell

Then Cloistered Cleric of Anubis 3 with the Magic and Repose Domains. Then into Mystic Theurge and maybe Pale Master, picking up Heighten Turning, Persistent Spell and Divine Metamagic.

Is there a better class(or multiple classes/Prestige Classes) to choose, is my build going to do well, have I picked domains that will be useful?

Thanks, Sam

Edit: I will also probably become a Lich(LA buyoff is allowed) and Master of Shrouds also seemed like a good choice.

a buffificer (buffing focused artificer) might fit the bill.

My brother just confirmed that he is playing an Artificer.

Is he building with a focus?

Not that I know of. He just said that is what he'll be playing.

You'd generally be better off just being a wizard or a cleric necromancer. Their abilities where necromancy is concerned don't really have much synergy. What are you actually trying to do with your necromancy? If you just want an undead horde, go straight cleric all the way. Wizard necromancers are all about debuffs. You should also probably avoid becoming a lich. LA buy off is basically irrelevant, because you can only buy off one level at 12th, and that's it.

Our DM lets us buy it off every three levels because he throws some pretty powerful stuff at us. So I can buy off the three before twenty by his ruling.

Sounds like a job for...dun dun dun duh....Bard. You want to buff? Dragonfire Inspiration Bard all around. You wanna heal? Healing Hymn can easily heal 40 plus damage with cantrips if you have the time and bard songs. You wanna interact with the undead? Take 3 levels in Crusader, take Song of the White Raven, and use Sublime chord to pick up the slack, and just smash the undead to bits. You don't really need the last part, you can just buff and use natural DFI damage output to fight.

And here's the secret bonus: you won't overshadow the party! You'll be teir appropriate and fair with everyone else! Yay you!

I was originally going to play a Bard but I have played Bards in three recent campaigns I've been a character in.

Ah. Well then. Carry on.

Have you tried a divine bard? Jk jk, its like 99% the same.

Druid can do the things you want, and theres a halfway-decent anti-undead druid prestige class out there, lord of radiance or something?

EDIT: Master of Radiance and the class is actually pretty sweet.

Fair enough, I guess. Still, the not being a mystic theurge part of what I said remains accurate. Even with advanced buy off, you're still only getting rid of all of those LA at level 12, and that's in addition to three lost caster levels on either side. You won't really be able to cast very well, in other words.

I was thinking of playing a Druid. Everyone always gets mad when I do, though. I usually get a top of the line animal companion, study the best animals to shape into and grab a few feats and dips to make myself even better. But druid is my next choice if I choose not to play a necromancer.

Yeah I just found a thread that said mystic theurge sucks. I will probably just play straight cleric or wizard.
