Are there playable races this size aside from dragons?

There are plenty of playable monsters in every size range, they just usually have prohibitive level adjustments and/or mandatory racial hit dice, all of which counts when determining what level your character is. For example, a Mountain Troll (MM3) has 15 racial HD and a +5 LA, making it ECL 20 and not even playable unless the rest of your party is already 20th level, and you don't get to take any class levels until level 21+.

One of the better options would probably be to use a Large size race with this Half-Fiend variant (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20060630x&page=1) based on a Huge size fiend, such as a Goristro from FC1.

Or use monster classes... but not really. The issue is that the reach and damage is to much. Also, it means you are limiting the DMs options. How can you do city quests when you overshadow the city? Dungeon crawls if they all have to fit a 40ft tall guy?

Item of compression? The Tsochari ring from Lords of Madness?

Easy.

Give the Tarrasque a Headband of Intellect, +6 would be best.

Suddenly, it's almost as smart as a human. Technically playable, even if it doesn't actually have the character info for it.

Ignoring that and going to races that were MEANT for players... I highly doubt it? It wouldn't really serve a purpose in most games. As Biff said, dungeons (and forests, and towns, and inside deep underwater ravines, and so on...) aren't usually going to be suitable for such a creature.

So... you spent a truly massive amount of ECL adjustment, so you could spend a ton of money to go on adventures as a normal adventurer(who is as a result much lower leveled).
Cool I guess?

Its easy enough to use Polymorph or Wild Shape or augmented Expansion or Giant Size or similar to play a Huge+ character when there's room in the dungeon for it. Not much sense in taking a massive level adjustment to be stuck that big and not even fit into buildings.
