So I got into a youtube argument with a dude over the ploymorhp series of spells and tried to expalin to him that changing the fluff or putting an obstacle in the way doesn't really fix the issue.

blah blah short while later he calls me an imbecile for using slang.. to which i said 'dude everybody in the world uses slang. except you it seems'

then I pointed out just one example of slang he used and of course hehas an excuse for that

'its vernacular not slang'

DO peopel really not know the difference ebwteen vernacular and slang anymore?

also.. idk why i get into arguments with people on youtube about stuff.. i think I might have an issue that needs help. just a couple months ago i got into one about the illuminati and how we never landed on the moon...

I hope you were arguing against the Illuminati and for the fact that we landed on the moon. LOL. I have a friend who is a bit of a conspiracy theorist, and he's tried to argue the moon landing was faked before. I just smacked him a couple times till he shut up. LOL

Really? I must be a terrible person, because when my friends get weird, I just wind 'em up and then watch them go. :smallwink: 'Course it helps if I can wind them up and then aim them at someone else with equal levels of opinionation* and differing viewpoint. Sometimes it's fun to just mock them myself, too. The kicker being that they don't seem to realize that's what I'm doing.

*By which I mean, being opinionated (rightly/wrongly/whatever way) versus having and opinion. I'm sure people have encountered the difference, even if I'm not able to explain the difference coherently at this time.

Sometimes I indulge my buddy, and I'll play as a sounding board for his ideas on the conspiracy stuff, other times I just tune em out, and other times I play whack a mole with the back of his head. He knows it's all in good fun either way I go with it :) I'm not even sure he believes some of the wierder stuff he talks about himself, he's just one of those people who like to look at things from ALL possible angles/viewpoints, even if some of those are pretty crazy.

Funniest Claims I have heard to this day:

Dogs can't look up.
Germany has no shores.
The Eastsea(Ostsee) is a lake.
Metal is not suited for chilling or relaxing.
You don't need sport or other similar activities to lose weight, just drink "XYZ".
Chicken is vegetarian.
Veganism is ALWAYS unhealthy. (It's about the always, not that it isn't possible to be unhealthy)

About argueing on youtube... well remember that the internet is full of people that think the world is 2013 years old... or [insert atheistic reference to the bible].

I would think they were referring to themselves with that statement. I personally am in agreement with that. I love metal, but when I was to chill/relax, I can not think of ANY time I've ever turned to metal. Metal is(to me) to get you hyped up, energetic, maybe even a little crazy. It gets your blood pumping, pulse racing, and none of that is conducive to relaxing.

When I want to chill with music, I'm looking for something slower paced, down tempo, with a good rhythm, and lyrics I can easily decipher without having to concentrate on listening to what's being said.

That one is solely a matter of opinion, unlike the others, so you really can't make a case for it being wrong.

Seriously? With the wide array of different forms of metal I have to say that you are indeed wrong.

The statement is wrong because it is a generalization of a subgenre to be of only one typus.

Bands like Suicide Silence, Kataklysm, Violator, Slayer or similar might be unnnerving if you try to get chilled. But what if you take Nothing else matters from Metallica? You can totally chill to that, or can't you? What about other melodic metal? That Death, Thrash or Death/Thrash is not really suited to relaxing doesn't mean that metal as a whole is not suited to relaxing. And even then there are some of these songs that don't pump you up with energy but more or less suck it out of you.

From the top of my head songs I would relax to:
Dream of Mirrors - Iron Maiden
Nothing Else Matters - Metallica
Weltuntergang (Eiswerk, German Dark/Death metal band from bavaria)
Mundane and Magic - Dark Tranquility
Sweet Dreams (cover) - Marylin Manson

I'm kinda surprised to not see one of the most chill songs I've ever heard on that list: Planet Caravan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsYxmejYsAw), by one of the most metal bands of all time, Black Sabbath (with Ozzy, not Deo)

Weeeeelllll.....

My fiancee used to talk on Gaia a lot. One day I was using her computer, I misclicked a bookmark, and there I was, logged in as her. So I looked at the anime thread with well over 20+ threads involving Inuyasha paired up with someone.
So I did my first ever bit of internet trolling.
I opened a thread and asked "So who is Seshomaru, and what is the big deal with this guy?"
And within 20 minutes I had over 2000 replies.
Now, many of those replies were repeats, a proper explanation of who the character is, where he's from, some picture links, etc. Which was particularly funny because each of those posts was nearly identical to the one directly above it. Which I find funny because after seeing the reply count, I realized that someone had to look at that multipage thread and go "wow, that guy is asking about Seshomaru. It's already up to 500 replies and 10 pages. I'll bet no one else knows who this guy is." And then chose to post without reading any of the thread.
Yes, special snowflake. An immensely popular anime, and you and only you know who a major character is out of 500+ replies. Grats.

I never responded to the thread once. I just asked the question and let nature take it's course. And nature is pretty cool to watch, especially when a simple question with a simple answer eventually turns a thread toxic. Pretty soon the whole thing devolved into an arguement about something about the main characters. I couldn't be bothered to read it really.

Of course, then there was the Epic Bacon Thread on mmo-champion.com during the whole 'Bacon of Light' debacle. To be honest though, everyone in that thread was trolling, especially the OP. It was in fact, a trolling thread worthy of 4chan, but it was all in good fun, no one's feelings were actually hurt, and it created some pretty good jokes/memes that faded into obscurity a week later.
"Bacon: It Offends Paladins."
Ah, what a time to be on the internet.

I'm not sure why I'm annoyed by watching two or more strangers argue about something inane, yet with other inane topics I can watch the arguement and I'm fascinated.

So yeah.

Nope, sorry. Metal is metal, even when it's a bit more down-tempo. It's just not something I'm capable of chilling to. And passing an opinion off as fact is..well, it makes you wrong. It's your opinion that you can, it's my opinion that you can't, it's your friends opinion that you can't, it's someone elses opinion on this thread that you can't, it's someone elses opinion on this thread that you can. See how that goes? Different strokes for different folks man, and saying "Nope, you're wrong", isn't how opinions work, especially on something like "What kind of music do you chill/relax to". Now, if the question was "What were the primary causes of the Revolutionary war", that will have a precise, and specific answer, and one person saying "Oh, I think it's because we Americans just didn't like Britain anymore", would be grounds for saying "You're wrong".

Sorry for the rant, but I can't stand when people try to tell me what IS AND IS NOT RIGHT for my personal preferences.

Nope, sorry. Metal != Metal. The fact that there are people that go into arguments over Dark vs Death metal or Black vs Thrash shows that it is in fact more like the statement: "You can't realax to music".
Metal itself is that fractured that there is something for everyone.

Sorry for the rant, but I can't stand when people try to tell me what IS AND IS NOT RIGHT for my personal preferences.

I am not trying to do this I am just saying that the opinion "Metal is not suited for relaxing" is narrow minded or shows a severe form of specialisation on one tiny spec of a topic.
Seriously have you watched any of these songs?
Dream of Mirrors is probably one of the hardest to relax to from my list but the Planet Caravan link posted here? I tried it out yesterday and could relax.

If I say Metal and you think slayer then that is ok but if on the topic of relaxing metal is brought into the picture we are talking about ambient metal or similar.

The definition of chilling is in slang to relax, whose definition is getting more calm/at ease. The problem here is not that Metal is not suited for relaxing as an opinion but more or less the statement that all metal can do is power up. Yes certain pieces of music empower you, make you want to jump or tackle someone but why shouldn't that be able to reverse in the same overly bloated category?

Now going back to your personal preferences: that's cool. If you want to go outside the Metal genre to relax with music then by all means do it. I often listen to Psytrance or Goa or similar outside of metal. Please don't narow down an awesome sort of music... there might be a band that makes the most chilling music... in your definition of chilling music.

I've listened to all but that German one, and the Dark Tranquility stuff. Honestly, I don't even consider Dream Theater music to be music to "chill to", and it's considered metal, and if there were ever a metal group I considered to be close to "chilling" to, it'd be them. It's just something with how I listen to music that prevents me from chilling to Metal. When I want to chill, it's going to be to like...soft jazz, or japanese anime theme songs, or very down tempo Hip Hop(and that's honestly stretching it). I'm not narrow-minded, it's just how I'm biologically wired I guess.

On another note, what is Dark Tranquility like as a music group? I've never heard of them before, but the name alone kind of suggests they might be akin to Dream Theater.

Meldoic Death Metal. The Mundane and the Magic is the chilliest song from them that I have on my Harddrive and know of. I should say that I mean the more or less acustic parts of that song, depending on wheter the voice is considered chilling or not as some people react differently to it.

Also about the Animething... it is similar you can have chilling stuff there as well as power up stuff (Bleach's OST is quite awesome for that).

And Krazzman is right: you can listen to metal and relax yourself.
And even if you aren't capable of, you cannot say that it's impossible to relax with it.
