Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!

The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.

This week we are covering the comic strips 161 through 170.

For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=283609).

To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here. (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34791)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Voting for this week will close on September 29th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, :haley: 151 - Learning Experience (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0151.html) showed the other strips on just what was required to win a week. Who will end up winning this week? Only you can decide that.

Let's reply, reply, reply, reply to this thread and vote for....

A good batch all around, but #169 is the most memorable to me.

166, Tetherball special.

Got to be 162 for me, if only for the last three panels. I guess Roy got some nice character growth too.

162: Soliloquy. I'm a sucker for turning points.

I wish I could pick more than one. 162 is good, but 169 wins it for me.

#169, just for the expression on Durkon's face

Some nice Belkar slapstick in this batch, but I'll make mine 162 for Roy's character development.

164 Here He Comes, To Save the Day! - I was actually around during the time when this strip was uploaded, and I seem to recall the forums freaking out quite a bit about Belkar's "probable" death, heh.

I always wanted 169 to be our leader. I did love Haley's expression after Elan's comment in 161, unfortunately it just wasn't enough.

Hmm. 162 and 169 are the frontrunners in my mind.

I gotta go for 162. Humor AND character development.

162, for character reasons and the punchline.

Voting for 162, a major turning point for Roy.

Hm... I'm torn between 162 and 169, since both of those were the ones that I remembered without having to read them, though IIRC, it was 170 that introduced me to OOTS on a website somewhere. I suppose I'll go with 162 in the end.

I'll go with #167 though like the others, I think this is a very good set overall.

I just noticed the strips #168 and #879 have the same title.

Character development, growth, and it only marginally features one of my least favourite running gags. (seriously, phobic fear of trees?)

I vote 164 for the biggest plot twist in the comic. :smallmad:

Is it because Samantha is younger than her and has a higher Charisma score than she does?

Tight competition between 162, 169, and 170. In the end, I think I'm going with 169 just because it's Durkon-focused, and Durkon is rad.

Some really nice ones here - I really like 161, 167 (the bag of tricks is just awesome) and 169 (All hail the new bandit king!) but 170 - He's Still a Dwarf at Heart has my vote!

Wow, two really strong contenders this week! 162 is a major turning point for Roy; this is where Roy truly begins his Hero's Journey in Book 2 (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16082979&postcount=412). On the other hand, 169 has a classic Durkon moment. But I guess I really should go the scholarly route, and vote for 162. This is the start of Roy abandoning the role of selfish adventurer and his transformation into a Hero.

Pretty good set of strips this time around. But, Roy's realizing that he is being a unbelivable idiot and then doing something about it really is the star of this set. And there's the added bonus of highlighting Eugene's absence from the strip. So 162 gets my vote.

And with that....

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

:roy: 162 - Soliloquy (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0162.html) is the winner this week! It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
