How to Random Banter:
Rules of the Random Banter Thread

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB, one word posts are generally considered spam. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* are also be considered spam. Remember that the quality of the post's content is much better than the speed of your response.

2. This isn't the Play by Post or Town forum, nor is it the Silly Message Board Games or Structured Games forum. Please avoid continuous roleplay or mock battles and fights such as the "competition for control of the universe".

3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well. The exception to this is to bring something that is off-topic from one thread, but on-topic for RB and the subject doesn't warrant a thread of its own.

4. Don't advertise other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.

5. Please don't post single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."

6. Don't poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."

7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.

8. As this is a public forum, where the current topic is nicely recorded for you, and not a conversation where you could have missed the beginning, please refrain from asking something to the effect of "What's the topic?". Please take the time to read up a bit first.

9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.

10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.

11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details.

12. Whenever a new thread is created, all "first post", "first page", and all posts of that nature will be deleted by the administrators. Please avoid doing this, as it is frustrating for them to deal with one-lined posts like this.

13. Double-posting is not your friend. We have edit buttons for a reason.

14. Once you have made a Random Banter thread, you must wait 50 threads before making another one.

15. If you can avoid dibs calling on making the next thread, that will avoid people needing to wait if the thread hits 50 pages while the dibs-caller is asleep.

Enjoy, everybody!

I am in the third year of a subject I didn't take the first two years for. After four weeks, I still can't get the program I need to use in order to do the class running. In the meantime I have missed all of those assignments and sincerely ****ed up all of my quizzes and tests. Every time I think I've solved my problem, there's another 5 that crop up.

I think it's time I threw in the towel.

Swiss Miss doesn't burn my mouth any more. I think all that tea has burned away all the parts of my mouth.

Was this someone's basement under his house? Or a basement under a regular bar? It sounds fun and small and easy to see the bands.

Well, then you're not making it hot enough. :smallamused: :smalltongue:

Someone's house. I've been to basement bar shows - those aren't nearly as sketchy. Aye, you can get up close to the musicians. It's all good fun. :smallcool:

Also I want to go see Na'ir Al Saif live, too. Bastard.

Well, if you can get to that part of VA by... tuesday night, then you can catch their last show. :smalltongue:

I fail to see why it would, at least. Long distance relationships may not be the norm, but they're neither new nor uncommon...

*pause music*

*nod* Aye, indeed. Hell, my mom and stepdad met online, and they've been married for a while now.

Hrm... I dunno, I've never had a problem with straws... I don't use them very often, though. I'd rather drink straight from the cup.

There are just too many of those damn books. He could have ended the series... after pretty much any book he wanted to, really. Eternity Cube and the ones after it were all good places to stop. I haven't read the newest one, I don't think.

Nope. Coalzor is apparently being stolen away to Indiana. Which, hey, if he's not really my nephew, good luck to the lad with that. Many fine people in Indiana and it's an excellent place to raise children from what I hear. If he is, in fact, my nephew, then it merely confirms all of the reservations I have had since I found out that he existed. I shouldn't say things like that, for a variety of reasons, but I just don't care right now.

If everyone around me really needs a monster right now, I guess I just have to suck it up and play the part I was given. I'll at least perform my role to the best of my ability.

Well, that sucks, man. Here's hoping your family's not too bad from here on out. :\

What exactly is cafeteria soup?

Soup from a cafeteria. Cafeterias are NOT known for the quality of the meals they provide, since most state-sponsored schools are required by law to have their foodservice provided by the lowest bidder. While these laws serve to prevent graft, they tend to be unkind to the taste buds of prospective students. Although the foodservice at Winona is among the best I've had, (especially the brazed beef) they have yet to make soup that doesn't taste like it was boiled in someone's shoe.

I just feel like venting. I find myself unemployed and I cannot find a job. Now, this is not from lack of training (I have a BS in electrical engineering), or lack of trying (I have sent out about 70 applications in the last month to jobs I though I was qualified for). My biggest concern is that I won't be able to find some kind of job so I can get actual health insurance for my wife and soon to be child. I'm just tired and out of ideas.

There, venting over. You may now continue with your regularly scheduled random banter. Unless you have a really good chili recipe. My church is having a chili cookoff/skeet shoot soonish, and I feel the need to stretch my culinary horizons.

Damn.

I like the cooking comically version (http://www.cookingcomically.com/?page_id=33). It's a mite-bit spicy, especially when you add in a half-tablespoon of every kind of dried red pepper you have in the house on top of the base recipe. Usually though I just brown meat, sometimes drain it, add copious amounts of tomatoes, whatever vegetables I want, and then start slowly seasoning while it simmers, basically doing it to taste.

So far has been going well here. Other than my health being a bit uncooperative. Crazy D&D players, as always. One of my friends was trying to break the fourth wall again but in a huge way, that kinda bothered me as too metagamey even for my taste. So I gave him 6 points of depravity (Heroes of Horror taint rules, literally!). So now his personality has turned bestial and he is suffering hallucinations. :smallamused:

So far it has been well. I even learned how to drive a tractor! But that was quite some time ago, so I will need to sort of relearn that to remember. :smalltongue:

Knowing how to drive a tractor is no trivial skill, and it may definitely come in handy if you live close to/on the countryside...

Almost anything can be found on Amazon! When I can save some money, I may try to get it, though I still long to play Dragon Age 2 and (if it exists on the computer) The Darkness 2.

True. I should get myself the two Civ V expansions myself some day...

Yes indeed it is. To be honest, I find I don't care for a lot of music lately, most rap or hip hop or rave music, techno can be okay sometimes. But kinda older rock, like Metallica and Guns n Roses, I have a special soft spot for in my heart.

Well, you don't have to like everything. For as long as you like enough to not run out, it's perfectly fine to be content...

I know that Poets of the Fall in particular is a band I only know about here because my friend showed me, but they are great. For anyone who does not know them I would recommend without a doubt. For any that already know and enjoy them, I am quite proud.

*checks out*
Oh yes, they sound really promising. I'll check them out a little more once I get home... :3

I can't believe it took until six this evening for me to realise there was a new random banter... Which is odd as I was waiting for a new one to get back into the art of bantering after being thoroughly absent.

That aside, what exciting things have I missed since I last posted? Actually, I should just go and read through the end of the last thread... Scrap that plan. There's a significant quantity of pages and I don't feel up to it at the moment.

As for what I have done recently... Nothing. I've just been ill. And alas... Sometimes Random Banter moves too fast for me to keep up with when sick.
I shall endeavour to do better this time.

Before I begin here, Amadou -- Amadillius -- Damnmyass -- Ummydummyzummyyummy -- the previous thread is closed, so I cannot import your delightful poem as a quote. But know that much pleasure was had by me at both your reply and your metrical ION. Let the new thread not be a break in this tradition, but indeed as a natural fault in its accumulation, a layer upon which banter archaeologists will gaze and mark in continuity.

I planted the peas for the fall today. But an hour later I saw a scrub jay dig up some of the peas. Scrub jays dig little holes like that too and hide food in them. But that was not a scrub jay hiding place! I wish it would go eat the false strawberries and leave my seeds alone.

Ah, tiny little pea nuggetlings, barely flushed with germination, wafting the aroma of their dampening up through the loose grains of earth. I can feel my oil gland quickening at the very thought. Can you blame them? Although, for a price, I can contact my West Coast budgie agents and see about arranging some distractions.

And likewise, though it be too late to import the quote from the previous thread, your crack about "topping" the flowers caused me both pleasure and pain [to the still fractured ribbish region, which is much sensitive to heavings of the diaphragm]

Lamentable, lamentable, lamentable! ;___; Emigrate to Canadia. Jobs for electrical engineers teem thickly enough in the waters here that you need but reach therein and grasp to catch one.

Chili is, alas, not in my culinary vocabulary. I recommend you search for a Guatemalan Insanity Pepper Stew for a good time.

Well, I...
...
Damn. A few years ago I'm sure I had some answers to this, because I tried specifically to force myself to be more sociable in order to acquire more friends and stuff. Then I acquired the friends and stopped trying so hard...

In any case, I don't know if talking to people socially requires quite the same sort of approach as talking to a doctor privately, though I guess confidence is somewhat transferrable.

On the other hand, that time you came up to my birthday party two years ago I seem to recall some awkwardness, but also you getting on alright talking to people when they talked to you first? And in this context, it's the doctor's job to talk to you, to put you at your ease and get the answers out of you, so hopefully they're pretty good at so doing.

Speaking of you up here, you mentioned in passing an interest in possibily coming up to see me in The Mikado. Anything further on that? I fully understand it's likely too expensive and stuff, but if there is a chance of you coming I'd just like to know in advance, so, yeah.

This is so very quite true! I like having some cheer, even though last night I felt like I had to be sorrowful. There is a short but all too personal story behind that, suffice it to say that the problems have passed. And truthfully, though I have never felt happy in a funeral, I believe at one time I went to one without being quite sad. It is a thing with me, even in funerals hard to grasp onto tears and melancholy. I guess it is in the past now.

So much bantering, it is wonderful! Though if I misses writing to someone because of my long time spent writing this, I apologize most profusely and offer hugs and cookies in the hopes of making peace.

When Mum got back home, we were sitting on the couch listening to the Duck Song and giggling.

Good luck.

Though do realize you don't have to do collage level classes at your age. You could opt out of them.

Firstly, @FinnLassie: whenever I read your name there's an undercurrent whispering 'Fionuala', may I call you that (or eventually some derivative of that)?

Indeed we should CirrataCattaPuella! When did we last talk, when I was in Spain? Do tell me about this abstract complaint thing. Also, this reminds me, I must post pictures from the Camino as you requested.

CirrataCattaPuella...that just has a nice rhythm to it. I love Latin so much.

Theologians who deliberately write in an effusive, overly elaborate tone that somehow is paradoxically dull, thick and formulaic. Theologians who managed to make this Angelic Doctor of ours sound so dull and thick (not stupid-thick, but thick-thick) that I actually scrubbed floors rather than read further. Theologians who manage to confuse me. When I'd already understood the point he was explaining.
Because theologians who write an everyman's beginner/introductory book so impenetrable that it took me a month to return to the book, and only by skipping half a chapter. Whereupon I found the key aspect/theme of Aquinas that easily explained the earlier point that made me go scrub floors like a modern day Cendrillon.

Latin is fun, but the initial Latin drills? Not so much.
The first time I came across one of those was in Y9. Maybe earlier actually. Amo, amas, amat, amanis, amantis, amant.

Curly: write it out! Write stuff. And then, hand that writing, to the doctor! Just... Just don't think about, like, "I'm going to hand this to the doctor" while writing it.

That post came after I'd gone, so the first thing I blurted after the customary greetings was "I'm not good at talking, to people, um," and then sat in an awkward silence (for me at least) for nearly a minute.
Lovely doctor she was though.
Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try it next time, see if that works.

Good luck!

I get to go back for bloods to make sure I didn't develop any sequelae like diabetes. I doubt I have diabetes, but if I did it would be tragic. No more desserts . . .
And before you say anything like, get diabetic friendly merchandise: it's expensive, and the Family cannot afford it.

Well, I...
...

I can't talk to anyone. Especially if I feel intimidated or not on an equal footing, such as meeting new people, being the only stranger in a group, having to initiate conversation, or anything like that.
I mean, once I get started I can't stop, but I need the right people and/or environment.

*shrugs*
Everyone else knew each other, so I was on a lesser footing, and I didn't know anything about them in order to open a discussion with them. So I lurked. The fact that there was alcohol helped, though I don't think I drank all that much that time. Or did I? It's all a bit of a non-drunk blur, except for the staying up partying (would you call it that?) until about three or four.
And the doctor was nice about my social issues. Patient and open. Better than my 'normal' doctor. I say he's my 'normal' doctor, but I've only seen once. Couldn't actually get the problem I was there for resolved as (somehow unsurprisingly) the paperwork indicating I actually had the problem in the first place was missing from my history entirely.
Entirely.

Speaking of you up here, you mentioned in passing an interest in possibily coming up to see me in The Mikado. Anything further on that? I fully understand it's likely too expensive and stuff, but if there is a chance of you coming I'd just like to know in advance, so, yeah.

What are those dates again?

Attention interloper - heed this recorded message. This drone vessel speaks with the voice and authority of the Ur-Quan. You are trespassing within Ur-Quan space. In addition, your ship does not respond to standard Hierarchy identification transmissions... and is therefore deemed to be... independent. Oh dang OH DANG. I have to whip up a portfolio from scratch by midday Wednesday. This is not a thing I have ever done or know how to do. It doesn't help that I don't actually have anything to put in it since my hard drive has been wiped twice this year and I've moved twice (chucking a bunch of stuff). Stupid convincing CV. Why can I lie so good?

@Kneen: Do jobs for electrical electrical accept doe-eyed physicists? I may have to skip the country if my jig is discovered and elevated. I'm fairly sure that's how it works anyway: fail once at the interview stage and it's over the border to Mexico.

@Curly: Tips for talking to people? Just talk about whatever your into at the time, you are very erudite. Alternatively spout a load of nonsense that is only tangentially related to the subject at hand. That's my general plan. That and don't a) over think it b) force the conversation (let it flow from one topic to another, even if you still have something really friggin interesting to say. Such is life) and c) I had something else but I forgot what. Remember not to care too much about what everyone else is thinking. That's why it's so easy to chat while drunk!

Yeah... I think the cafeteria at my high school wasn't allowed to have food above... either grade C or grade D. It was pretty disappointing stuff. Some of it was alright, but... *twitch*

In hind sight, I wish I had chosen to attend classes at the community college when I was 15 rather than continueing in highschool. I would have probably learned a bunch more stuff sooner and not have had to learn it all the hard way later. Also, I had a college class with a 15 year old once. She was no where near the least prepared person for the class. Of course I was taking 2 8:00 classes at the time, one at 8am and one at 8pm, so I probably cannot say terribly much about what was actually going on.

Makes no sense not to refer to a course by its name, really, especially if we're talking about the academic advisors.

I know you take difficult classes, but you're in high school, and they are still (well, with the exception of your actual college courses) high school classes. Three is a lot, given what they involve, and my workload is probably somewhat comparable to yours right now.

A wake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_%28ceremony%29)isn't part of a funeral - it's a somewhat similar ceremony where the family and friends view the body that happens beforehand.

Would this happen to be the cathedral in Burgos. It was so spectacular that Santiago was actually a bit of a letdown once I got there just because Burgos was that much more beautiful, though Santiago does have a better facade. I'll get around to posting photos on flickr or something. Currently they're on Facebook, but then I'd have to be friends with the entire Playground to show them.

Who on earth are you reading that made such a terrible introduction to St. Thomas Aquinas? One of his virtues is how clear and to the point he is. The Summa Theologiae isn't exactly a gripping novel full of exciting high adventure, but there are far worse theologians (I'm lookin' at you Blessed Duns Scotus) when it comes to writing style. What I like so much about Thomism is that it's actually quite easy to understand once you get used to Aristotelian metaphysical terminology (form, substance, prime matter, etc.). Then again, I've also had my head stuck in philosophy for over three years now, so I no longer know what is sensible to normal people. However, off the top of my head I can name three very good introductory books on St. Thomas if you'd like a recommendation. One by a French neo-thomist, one by a British Jesuit neo-thomist (an unusual combination), and one by the eminent G.K. Chesterton. Also, what has you reading about my beloved Angelic Doctor?

Well, now you've made me want to change the quote in my signature. Vale Pater Ecclesiae, salve Doctor Angelicus.

Latin is fun, but the initial Latin drills? Not so much.
The first time I came across one of those was in Y9. Maybe earlier actually. Amo, amas, amat, amanis, amantis, amant.

*hiss*

Latin drills. I'm so glad I'm past that. Now that I'm on my second year of it all we do is translate things. Currently we're going through Sallust's account of the Catalinarian Conspiracy. All I must do is translate. No being tested on memorizing the principle parts, or the subjunctive pluperfect. Just translation. Curly, it is wonderful. This warms my classicist heart so much.

edit: I just noticed that Latin wikipedia is called vicipedia. While in classical Latin that does in fact phonetically sound like "wiki", it ends up meaning "I-conquered-pedia". That's actually a pretty cool name.

I believe it is the Santiago, and yes, it is quite the place. Strangely, i think it prettier than Notre Dame, despite having been to Notre Dame personally and only having seen the Cathedral of Santiago in film and paint.:smallconfused::smalltongue:

Santiago is much prettier than Notre Dame. That cathedral gets heavily overrated just because it's in Paris and featured prominently in a Victor Hugo novel. It is easily outdone by the likes the Yorkminster, Chartres, and Burgos...oh Burgos.

Huh. What did you spell it as?

I cut out a vowel. My last name is egregiously Slavic and difficult to pronounce/write. I take great pride in actually being able to say a word with the sequence of letters "drzyck" in it. So when I mess it up, I simply facepalm.

A wake is a "Let's get drunk to remember and forget the dead" party.

My mother sometimes tells us she doesn't want anyone wearing black at her funeral. I don't know if we can have a proper wake since nobody in my family drinks alcohol.

A wake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wake_%28ceremony%29)isn't part of a funeral - it's a somewhat similar ceremony where the family and friends view the body that happens beforehand.

Hmm thank you both, good knowledge there. I remember it now...I haven't been to one in so long, it kinda just slips the mind. Though I admit to not remembering at any point that my family had alcohol during any part of funeral proceedings, even this little afterward family gathering part. But again, it has been some time.

If only. I might just finish off this 2L of Coke tonight... I want to go to bed early, but there are things I want to do first...

Then I do wish you the best in the proceeding and cheer you on from afar. :smalltongue:

When MoonCat wrote about drifting along I felt what she felt and got worried and looked for clues that I might be drifting along too. How long are you supposed to go before you clean a bathroom?

Yes, but I only learned it as a requirement for an Agriculture class that I only joined because my friend was in it. :smalltongue: And didn't get to use the skill much. But I like having the knowledge, and would actually like to test it again.

Well as long as some of it is good, that sounds like you can survive of it. I didn't really have the means to bring lunch from home back in high school; in fact, that is why I was able to get the free school lunches. Some kindness there I guess. :smallsigh: But I still stand by the yumminess of those deli sandwiches. :smallcool:

So much bantering, it is wonderful! Though if I misses writing to someone because of my long time spent writing this, I apologize most profusely and offer hugs and cookies in the hopes of making peace.

Where do you go to learn to drive a tractor? Do you just find a farm and say "I'd like to learn to drive a tractor and I'll pay for the gas"?

I guess all the peanut people have made sure there are no more peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for kids who forgot their lunch or their lunch money. This feels weird. That was part of what a cafeteria is. It can't be gone.

You did not miss me but I will take a hug and a cookie. And leave a hug and a cookie too.

Aw, rats. You should make a scarecrow to shoo them away.

They do not fly away when I hang clothes out to dry but I will try it.

ION:
The life expectancy of a piece of blackboard chalk is hilariously low. Seriously, I don't know how many pieces of chalk our Transform Methods lecturer manage to either snap or drop in the course of a single lecture, but they're many...

He needs a pencil bead. I used to have to use them in school to try and fix the way I hold a pencil. It didn't work. I still hold a pencil on the flap of skin. But another thing it did was stop a pencil from breaking.

Joke's on them, they're fictional and I'm not. I'd like to see them try to get me.

In other news, I am now doing meteorology homework. In seminary. Who would have thought that becoming a priest would require learning about why a radiation temperature inversion can happen at night? It's cool, and I like science, but this is definitely not what I expected a few years back when I joined.

Life is strange. It's good that way.

edit: I just noticed I didn't even write my last name correctly on the homework. Brilliant. :smallsigh:

I'm not sure about that.

Did you have to take any science and meteorology looked interesting?

I am thinking about pencils now so I will ask if you wrote your name wrong with a pencil and if you can feel it going wrong when it happens.

It doesn't. Not in any predictable sense. Run with what you get, and try to be happy regardless. I've been to wakes that were more energizing (and in general, more enjoyable) than a decent amount of family dinners I've had... don't sweat it too much.

Making that feeling of being together is the hardest thing to do. And at the family dinners everyone is trying so hard. With that or with just trying to be who they are.

Any tips about how to actually talk to people?

I was so very tempted to answer this in a manner of the most sarcastic variety, but then I berated myself silently and began thinking of a more helpful answer.
Alas, I can't think of anything more helpful than to just start talking and don't stop. It's worked for me in the past on a couple of occasions when I needed to explain things. But I've never done so to a doctor before...

Attention interloper - heed this recorded message. This drone vessel speaks with the voice and authority of the Ur-Quan. You are trespassing within Ur-Quan space. This world, Earth, may not be approached for any reason. Nor will hostilities against our orbital platform be tolerated. In addition, your ship does not respond to standard Hierarchy identification transmissions... and is therefore deemed to be... independent. This is not permissible -- only subservience shall be tolerated.

Does this mean the budgies are aligned with space-aliens? If so, on a scale of one to "Whatever is Good and Holy in this Universe, come to aid so that our death may be either averted or rendered as free from anguish as possible", how afraid should we be?

I'm sorry, Kneen, but I can't be subservient! My filly would kill me. *sigh* guess it's rebellion, then? Someone get the bayonets! You fight space wars with bayonets, right? That's a thing?

Well, it's certainly better than the idea I had. Fire isn't very practical in space.

In other news, I am now doing meteorology homework. In seminary. Who would have thought that becoming a priest would require learning about why a radiation temperature inversion can happen at night? It's cool, and I like science, but this is definitely not what I expected a few years back when I joined.

edit: I just noticed I didn't even write my last name correctly on the homework. Brilliant. :smallsigh:

Well... Such knowledge could be useful if you become a priest in a region remote and free from convenient broadcasts as to the state of future weather. I mean, there is more to being a priest than theology.

Now, that's an accomplishment in the field of spelling errors.

And here's where I take a break to scream about the fallibility of technology and its nigh continuous failings, only to be greatly relieved that my post was not lost when my computer crashed momentarily. I suspect that the heat is getting to it... It is indeed excellent when things work out like that.

Let the new thread not be a break in this tradition, but indeed as a natural fault in its accumulation, a layer upon which banter archaeologists will gaze and mark in continuity.

I would indeed find such an archaeological investigation into the records of our random discussions fascinating. And also a rather maddening endeavour fraught with such enjoyable pointlessness.
Perhaps when I am old and rich, I shall commission a historian to embark on such a task.

I phoned NHS24 not too long ago to see what I should do with my back pain. I need to continue taking pain killers until the morning, and if it's not helping, that's me to the doctors. I'm really suspecting slipped disc, but we'll see what the doctor says tomorrow.

Sort of crappy this anxiety of mine over calling and doctors, I've got my first lecture tomorrow... and I'm very likely missing it. :smallannoyed:

Oh dear... I rather hope that that is not the case. I would say anything but, but there are some rather terrible causes of back pain out there.
I do so hope it is something minor and that you recover quickly.

I get to go back for bloods to make sure I didn't develop any sequelae like diabetes. I doubt I have diabetes, but if I did it would be tragic. No more desserts . . .
And before you say anything like, get diabetic friendly merchandise: it's expensive, and the Family cannot afford it.

Fortunately, we live in a time where diabetes doesn't result in a diabetic coma and then death within five years...
I would give advice concerning how to go about being diabetic as my Mum is and she manages fine, even with the occasional dessert, but I don't believe her diabetes is very serious.

Yeah... I think the cafeteria at my high school wasn't allowed to have food above... either grade C or grade D. It was pretty disappointing stuff. Some of it was alright, but... *twitch*

Oh well... There's nothing I can do as an Australian about the situation over in America.

If you're getting sacrifices, then I want sacrifices too. Preferably in the form of noble metals and precious stones.

I do, by quite a margin, hence this monstrosity of a post I'm typing.

Ah in high school actually. I live in a pretty rural area and there is actually a farm on campus for those involved in this program from agriculture-related careers. Heheheh, what is this mythical land of pedia? Is it good for farming, or is it more suitable for hunting and trapping? :smallamused:

Hrm... My mother's father's side of my family tree is from Poland... of course, that last name was butchered at Ellis Island, and no one remembers exactly what it used to be. I don't think it was quite so linguistically obtuse, though. (and by my mother's accounts, it seems to more resemble a Russian patronymic than anything else).

When MoonCat wrote about drifting along I felt what she felt and got worried and looked for clues that I might be drifting along too. How long are you supposed to go before you clean a bathroom?

Making that feeling of being together is the hardest thing to do. And at the family dinners everyone is trying so hard. With that or with just trying to be who they are.

...until it's dirty? :smallconfused: I think that in particular isn't much of an indicator on account of it varying widely on a case-by-case basis.

Well, I think it's more because of the family I am forced to interact with in each situation as much as the context of the situation... people tend to be less vitriolic when there are dead people around, anyway...

Personally... Of all the cost cutting measures, that particular one is pushing things. But then, schools over here don't provide lunch, at least neither of the ones I've been to have. They provide facilities so you can buy food if you want, but otherwise one brings a lunch.

The food wasn't all bad, but most of it was disappointing, aye. It's good that they provided it, though; I couldn't have put the motivation together to make myself lunch every day when I was in high school... especially not junior or senior year. (for different reasons). Hell, I've still got trouble doing that now.

I want sacrifices in people that can give me a good explanation in how to do some of my homework, and then another person to actually do all of the work that I already know how to do just fine and simply don't want to spend the time on.

Oh, neat. I don't think so, though; it's mostly text, with the occasional grid.

Mynxae! We want news about the rental!

Make it look scary, and add some sort of device that'll make loud noises...

Indeed. It is very nice!

Next door has a new baby and three other people on this street are working on their classic cars today. We have plenty of loud noises. Yellow car is louder than a train a mile away. This is the truth. I couldn't hear the train any more once the yellow car started running.

So... mostly out of interest and because I cant find a more appropriate place for it..

Are there any graphical games on these forums? (in the Play-by-post style)
I've looked through a lot already.. but it does seem that Text based games in established systems are the norm here, if not the only thing... am I wrong and blind or just missing them when I click through the things?

Best Regards -LAYF-

That is an interesting idea! But it makes the screen very wide.

I have seen people make pictures for a post but only one picture. Not something to draw every time. If things get silly enough here someone will draw a picture of the scene.

Og.. yea... I see that the forum does not have the "re size" function.. that was why I put it in a spoiler...
but its only the big image that does that.. the small image did fine :)

Hmm.. yea.. not really what I meant... I was thinking games where every update has its own images... Its just favorites of mine
(honest reason is that I have a disorder not unlike dyslexia, so.. text writing is just not my thing)

Hmm... maybe I should start a game here some time and see what people think of it...

You should! An image-based game would certainly be exotic, compared to the more text-based ones around here.

Yes indeed! Who knows, it could be the skill that saves lives.

Well, if you have access to a tractor, that's not even a far fetch. I mean, you can use it to pull cars out of a ditch or fallen trees off the road, for example...

Well, this is okay. I still have other games on the brain to focus on. Fallout New Vegas, maybe another play of Dragon Age. Both are rather long.

Yeah. I never managed to play all the way through Dragon Age, I got so fed up with meeting yet another darkspawn hoard that it kind of lost the charm...

I would imagine it would. Do you do much musical writing on the computer?

No, but when I'm in a really good mood, I use to suffix my greetings with a '♫' to show that I'm more or less singing it... :3

Thanks, I tried very hard on that one. I enjoyed writing it, though I believe it may have used up the majority of energy I have reserved for witty banter. It may be a while before I am able to speak with such eloquence again. So for now, I am content enough to lounge.

Well, you don't have to be eloquent all the time. Personally, I'm waiting for the great autumn firework to inspire me into writing up something beautiful... :3

There've been things like you mention from time to time in the Arts and Crafts section. There's also the Battle Royale, which is more collaborative storytelling (not sure if it's still going?). Alternatively you could try starting something up in structured games.

Well, he seems to kill 2-3 chalks per lecture, so it's nothing extreme, but it's persistent, and he looks a bit silly when he stops to look down at the piece of the chalk which just snapped and fell to the floor, before he shrugs and goes on with his lecture...

Well, for as long as you make as you aren't disconent with the pace, that shouldn't be a problem... :smallwink:

I think it worked pretty well, at least as a standalone...

Hrm... still, that seems a bit odd, given that mine doesn't go through nearly that many, and he strikes the blackboard quite hard with them. Hrm... How long are your lectures? Perhaps mine simply doesn't have the time in 50 minutes to go through a few pieces of chalk.

Not yet, although I suppose I'll see how it goes.

Well, I meant the awkward differences between the first/third lines and the second/fourth lines. 2/4 would flow more naturally with seven syllables, I think.

I'm exhausted. Dead. Tired. Extremely wound up.

Hmm I've had some problem with that, mostly when I played it on the PS3 at Varsu's house. On the computer, the main enemy issue I have is Shattering Arrow. :smallannoyed: Stuns most of my team, and at a certain point in the game it seems like all archers have it.

As I also mentioned, I suffer from lag. My characters will be attacking and everyone will be using powers but they won't take effect in anywhere from a couple seconds to a minute or more. And with the tactics, my allies continue to try to use abilities over and over until they take effect, while wastes tons of stamina/mana. :smallmad: Or they will die when they suddenly take damage from all the attacks they have stood up to at once. That said, this is only a problem in area with tons and tons of enemies, or if I play for too long. But it made the end of the main campaign pure horridness. :smallfurious:

...Still I do like the characters, a lot. And the many choices available saves it for me. I'm big on lots of choice in games; hence why D&D and other tabletop games with lots of freedom are the best.

Yep, and I can use it on other occations too! ♫

The Aeneid had it first. Assuming it was based off one hundred percent accurate historical documents. Which it wasn't.

"At the top Manlius, guardian of the Tarpeian Citadel,
stood before the temple, defending the high Capitol."
Aeneid, Book VIII (http://www.poetryintranslation.com/PITBR/Latin/VirgilAeneidVIII.htm)

I, and the rest of my Classical Civ class, also rather enjoyed the name of the Roman King Tarquinius Superbus. Why?
Because he's a super bus. We were easily amused.

So I think I just found the most masculine name of all time in the middle of a Roman historical account. Gaius Manlius. His first name has the word "guy" in it, and his last name is just a Latiny sounding version of manly. I am in awe. He was even a centurion, which just makes him even cooler. I don't know who his parents were, but clearly they somehow knew modern English and decided to give him a really cool name.

Was he not to do with the Sabines? Curse it being two years since Latin I, I forgot what we learned once our teacher said it was a real name.

Superbus...how did I never notice that? I just thought it was a really great way of saying "superb". Also, the Aeneid did not have this first. Sallust's The Conspiracy of Catiline has Gaius Manlius, which was written before the reign of Augustus. Though I will admit that perhaps Virgil's Manlius was known before he appeared in dactylic hexameter, but as far as I know C. Manlius came first in the written record a centurion who tried to help Cataline seize power in Rome.

Pretty much, but given my Latin was taught almost completely in translation, and I'm unsure of what elements of the Aeneid were based from other documents that existed at the time of composition I wasn't sure, hence the very obvious lampooning of the Aeneid not being an actual historical document when it was clear you were referencing things that actually happened for realisies guys.

You are technically right - 'superbus' in Latin more or less means 'exceesively proud'/'arrogant', and you can even intuit the correct stressing and pronunciation just from reading it, but at first glance it looks like someone forgot the space between super bus.
And that is somehow hilarious. Superbus and Manlius became running gags for months along with a few other interestingly named people.

Congratulations on your mighty mental success! Hmm what is FYS? :smalltongue:

I should have remembered to do that. It doesn't matter right now though. My number has been skipped over. I don't have to go.

There was a lucky find. TIME magazine has a funny column in the back that I like to read. The last magazine it was talking about jury service in California and it was gentle and it explained why the people I knew and asked aren't the kinds of people who get picked for juries.

Well good then. Glad you were able to avoid it for now.

Hmm, could you share with us why they wouldn't be picked for juries? Or am I prying too much? :smallconfused:

Hehe that is rather intense. I shall need to borrow that name at some point maybe for a campaign, throw the MANLIEST NPC ever at the players, just see how things go. Design stats for him just in case they try to challenge his MANLINESS.

As a side mention, another very masculine name that I read online somewhere was Max Fightmaster.

I don't know if it was a joke or not but he wrote that "jury of your peers" is the important part. That the people who sit and hear the case should have something in common with the people in it. Hehehe, don't worry! I've done it enough times myself to spot what's going on. Plus, your post was way too for you to have time writing it since after I posted... :smallwink:

As I also mentioned, I suffer from lag. My characters will be attacking and everyone will be using powers but they won't take effect in anywhere from a couple seconds to a minute or more. And with the tactics, my allies continue to try to use abilities over and over until they take effect, while wastes tons of stamina/mana. :smallmad: Or they will die when they suddenly take damage from all the attacks they have stood up to at once. That said, this is only a problem in area with tons and tons of enemies, or if I play for too long. But it made the end of the main campaign pure horridness. :smallfurious:

Yeah, I get that lag too. It's a bit annoying when you drop an area damage spell and half of the enemies manage to get outside of the area before the damage takes effect...

...Still I do like the characters, a lot. And the many choices available saves it for me. I'm big on lots of choice in games; hence why D&D and other tabletop games with lots of freedom are the best.

Yeah, the characters were good. :3

Well, you say 'interesting', but I think "Really? How long is this bit? Why can't I justify separating this into pieces?"

Still shorter than some of the pieces you've linked here... :smallwink::smallamused:

GTA 5 was pretty good, up to a point.

The problem for me came at about a third of the way through when it railroaded me first into a mission out of the blue, and then railroaded me again into an interactive torture sequence where I had to torture information out of an innocent man if I wanted to proceed.

I stopped playing at that point.

If you can get through it, more power to you. To me it just came across as a combination of throwing something controversial in for shock value and trying to cover it up by saying "social commentary!" and the developers smugly sitting there saying "We know you'll do it. You don't want to stop playing."

Throw in that I don't think it was handled well for "social commentary" at all, and well, I felt no more desire to give the game any more of my attention.

If you want to address torture and it's effects on people, then do it. Don't throw it in and then go back to missions where you're killing hallucinatory clowns. There's more to real social commentary than adding a sitcom-style summary to the end of the episode.

Time to date myself and start talking about games that were good when I was growing up...

Grandia and Grandia 2 are PS-era games (well, Grandia 2 was Dreamcast, but there's a PS2 port). I only ever played Grandia 2, but I loved it. It had an innovative combat system that was much more involved than your average RPG.

Hybrid Heaven for the N64 was also pretty good, but hasn't aged well. The story was also pretty weak. This is one of those ones that I liked a lot but others didn't seem to.

You mentioned Wild Arms, number 3 is a very good one. The cel-shaded art is charming.

One the SNES front there's the ones that everyone talks about: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 3 (6), Earthbound like you mentioned (probably my favorite). One you might not have looked into is the Lufia series. Particularly number 2. There's also Breath of Fire 1 and 2 for the SNES and the other sequels for the Playstation (be mindful of Dragon Quarter, though, it's a pretty different beast than the others).

How fare you today, yon budgie?
Is Winnipeg as cold as here?
(I would think 'tis colder yonder
In northlands in this time of year)
Ack, awkward meter change. I WILL STICK WITH MY EIGHT SYLLABLES, DAMMIT!

Now budgie perches on the flying tile
To rest his weary wings a little while
And discourse with the seated Amadou
Who snuck up on that budgie as he flew.
The fleece of clouds creeps gently by below
Illuminated by the dusk's red glow;
The gloam lays thick in Amadou's dark hair
Whose curls entrap the shadows waxing there.
"Lord summer overstays his welcome, friend,"
Says budgie, gazing on the day's red end;
"The northlands swelter, barely kissed with gold
"When autumn ought already blow with cold."
This news does not arrange a different face
On Amadou, although a little trace
Of discontentment twitches round his mouth.
"It similarly swelters in the south.
"You bring ill tidings, birdfriend, past repute:
"That overeager summer heats pollute
"The cleanliness and cooling of the fall,
"Our very favourite season of them all."
As sunset bleeds the coloured heavens dry
The friends in silence on the tile fly.
Against the perturbations of their hearts,
The company a solemn cheer imparts.

I don't mean this to be advice exactly, because surely there are benefits to getting some work experience: but I sorely wish I could have enjoyed the experience of just being a student. I had some job or another all the way through my undergrad and they detracted from each other: never quite able to fully sink my being into my studies, nor never quite able to appreciate the satisfaction of labour and the freedom to spend money. :smallyuk:

And so, Finnique, my non-advice is not to get a job. I forbid it. I have budgie agents crawling all over Scotland that will sabotage any attempt of yours to gain employment.

That does sound rather jarring from a game where you're taking selfies of yourself with people in the background taking selfies of themselves while the player is taking a selfie of themself with the selfie-ception in the background, yeah.

Sounds like a plan.

Part of me wants to hug it, but the GM in me wants to weaponize it to terrorize my players...

I think that's the point, really. It's adorable and a source of utter mayhem and chaos. Unlike Swamp Dragons which are kind of disgusting and pitiable and a source of utter mayhem and chaos unless they last long enough to grow on you and then they can become cute in a kind of ugly way.

Also, concerning the "everyone fauns over Zodi" subject matter:

Where's that image of Sheep throwing Fauns at Teddy when I need it? :smalltongue:

I'm allowed to be bi-curious.

I suppose. I must just be misrecollecting some things, ah well. I'll just have to have my entire world view shatter to pieces or something. :smalltongue:

Ugh, work. I really would like to have some extra dosh so having a job would be ideal, but with my uni schedule it's absolutely impossible for me to consider it. I'm going to uni full time, and even thinking about having one shift a week is putting me off. Other people are capable of it, I'm not, it takes me a while to null my brain to keep myself sane. I should probably do the same as you and get a summer job, but buh... Gah, I'll probably get a job when I'm done with my placement next semester.

I probably shouldn't ask what you need the room for if you need to be there all by yourself...

Hey, she's the one blurting everything out. I have no chance to stop her, she lives on the other side of this world for me!

I'm not bi-curious, but I still call women sexy if needed. One doesn't need to have any sexual or romantic desires over something to say someone's a hot mamacita. :smalltongue:

Wuff. Good luck.

When in doubt, assume MAD SCIENCE! That's what I imagine whenever Teddy says things that I don't understand, anyway.

Isn't that part of the fun?

Telling someone is sexy is one thing. Telling that someone is exuding raw animal sexuality is a whole other ball game. Or maybe I just have an erroneous connotation of one being affected by said raw animal sexuality that's being exuded if one is picking up on and commenting upon it. *shrug*

I HAVE NOT SEEN YOU IN YEARS!

How are you and her Ladyship?

ION:
So. Dinner tonight happens to be basketti bolognese and some pancake rolls left over from New Years Eve that we'd forgotten about. This will be an interesting dinner.

Actually, I like both of those things, and practise food type segregation at meals, so it'll be like two meals.
Besides, noodles and basketti are virtually the same thing.

*snicker*

Yes your Smolderius-ness.:smalltongue:

*nod* Indeed. Perhaps I should attempt a less demanding courseload next year. (although if I do, that'll very likely be at the expense of me being able to graduate in four years).

Well, hopefully you imagined it drawn better. :smalltongue:

A roommate in your room, duh. :smalltongue:

What about older games (SNES generation and the one after)? I'm looking at catching up on a lot of the gaming I missed from those years. Stuff with really good story-telling. So far I'm looking at Suikoden, Xenogears, maybe some Final Fantasy, Wild Arms, and I also need to finally finish Earthbound. Anyone else got suggestions? Oh, and I don't know what gen it was, but I just ordered Beyond Good and Evil. Because that one's apparently good.

If you want good story-telling, Phantasy Star IV. Only game I've ever played that got a genuine emotional reaction out of me aside from frustration at repeatedly dying (that's PSII). Of course, that's for Genesis, but I'm sure you can find a port or an emulator if you don't have one.

Now budgie perches on the flying tile
To rest his weary wings a little while
And discourse with the seated Amadou
Who snuck up on that budgie as he flew.
The fleece of clouds creeps gently by below
Illuminated by the dusk's red glow;
The gloam lays thick in Amadou's dark hair
Whose curls entrap the shadows waxing there.
"Lord summer overstays his welcome, friend,"
Says budgie, gazing on the day's red end;
"The northlands swelter, barely kissed with gold
"When autumn ought already blow with cold."
This news does not arrange a different face
On Amadou, although a little trace
Of discontentment twitches round his mouth.
"It similarly swelters in the south.
"You bring ill tidings, birdfriend, past repute:
"That overeager summer heats pollute
"The cleanliness and cooling of the fall,
"Our very favourite season of them all."
As sunset bleeds the coloured heavens dry
The friends in silence on the tile fly.
Against the perturbations of their hearts,
The company a solemn cheer imparts.

I'll say that autumn came quite sharply
Unannounced and quite distinct
One day it was clearly summer
The next was cool and crisp - I mean
To say it always feels like autumn
As of now would be a lie
Some days (like today) are sunny
And others have clouds in the sky

Many days it rains or threatens
To, with marbled grey and white
Clouds, which linger to the twilight
Later seeing fit to hide
Have made life quite interesting
When they sometimes call for rains
Instead the clouds, content to linger
Stay the storm, and dry ground remains

(although not yesterday, I will add;
and though I am glad
for the rain, it was somewhat dull;
perhaps I was full
or simply tired of the wet).
I'd be willing to bet
That today's sunnier warmth too,
might have something to do
with the absence of clouds.
The dark grey shroud
is lifted, and replaced with a sheet of blue.
Today is warmer, 'tis true,
But I'd prefer it not,
For winter is my favorite season.
The others are just too hot.

Oh, god, that's the worst meter I've used in a while.

I have been negilgent in showing up around here, haven't I. I blame the new working conditions.

Well, all things considered. Autumn and Winter are coming, though, and the cold seasons have been wreaking all sorts of unholy havoc with my mood the past few years.

I've a new job and soon I'll have a new brother-in-law. Nothing like your younger (I can't say little, she's been taller than me since she was 'bout 14) sister getting married to make you feel old. I like him, he reminds me a lot of the LLama.

Writing has...stopped. It's frustrating and depressing, but it's also a very real, very difficult block that won't go away. But other than the recent dramas everything's on the upside of good for the pair of us.

Rrrrgh, he means so well and looks so cute and innocent... and yet I foresee much trouble from the little devil. That was my good nesting wool! ;___;

The dragonpuppy doesn't understand what he did wrong, and looks sad and confused.

Admittedly, both dogs and lizards aren't that good at thinking.

Hehehe, don't worry! I've done it enough times myself to spot what's going on. Plus, your post was way too for you to have time writing it since after I posted... :smallwink:

Ah, right then. Okay I am forgiven, yay!

Yeah, I get that lag too. It's a bit annoying when you drop an area damage spell and half of the enemies manage to get outside of the area before the damage takes effect...

Hmm not sure if I have had that specifically or not, though most likely. I used area effects rarely, unless that area was directly around my character (Whirlwind, Mind Blast, etc.).

Yeah, the characters were good. :3

Indeed! Which makes a lot of difference to me in games.

As a small example, take Fallout New Vegas compared to Dragon Age Origins. Fallout doesn't have quite as many interesting characters, though there are some. To me both games are about on par with story decisions and character progression choice. Fallout is just more fun in terms of combat. Again, just my opinion.

It's a firework best observed from afar, in my opinion.

Heh. I just looked out my window to see if maybe I could witness this anyway, seeing as how I live up on a hill. Then I realized that most of the trees are pine trees, and even the ones that aren't don't really have leaves that change pretty colors. :smallfrown: No firework for me.

I'm allowed to be bi-curious.

Yikes, rough schedule. :smallsigh: I encourage your line of thinking, wait to get a job. Just not too much; don't put it off for ages like I have. How many hours is full time class? I'm basically in half time sorta, which is something like 5-10 hours a week I think.

I'm not bi-curious, but I still call women sexy if needed. One doesn't need to have any sexual or romantic desires over something to say someone's a hot mamacita. :smalltongue:

I can agree with this logic most heartily! Beauty or handsomeness or what have you is a universal concept. I'm pretty sure I'm not bi, doesn't stop me from admiring men from time to time. Though I guess that is usually for different reasons than appearance...whatever it still counts!

Also though it is without the quoting, I do wish to say that Kneemes's and AmiDrex's poetry writing is absolutely baffling me, with you both deserve kudos for.

And so ION: Well not much really. Been inspired to try to make a very out there highly interactive adventure for D&D but at the moment in the story I cannot appropriately add it in, so I will have some weeks to brainstorm and prepare for it.

Randman has set the plane on autopilot and he also removed my blindfolds. He is now raging at the autopilot.

I assume you are playing a video game online with him or something. Also, I have no idea who Randman is other then "a guy on the forum" XP

I suppose not. He's now cooking, but apparently now someone's talking to him and we have to head to Manchester. Schucks!

I'm not getting any of Randman's pasta.

My world domination plans include mutant squirrels. I think they would be cute.

Especially the all-black ones with the pointy fur-tufts on their ears.

A local engineering firm. By local, I mean "a 20 minute drive in bad traffic from where I sit at this very moment."

Awesome. Twenty minutes of bad traffic is a heck of a lot better than I've had to do. The highest was "2 hour train ride." That lasted all of one day.

Good luck!

I'm not getting any of Randman's pasta.

So...strange euphemism?

I'm voting strange euphemism. :smalltongue:

Well that explains why they are able to get wifi 4000 feet up. It doesn't explain the noodles though.

Actually I was able to get wifi on the last flight I took. Don't remember how they did it, precisely, but it was available.

Like does tend to recognize like.

I mean, we've all thought about creating ridiculously cute hybrids and using them to further our plans for world domination at some point, right?

...or is that just me?

No, I do that all the time. My latest idea is chipmunk-bots.

ION: I thought I posted this here last night, but APPARENTLY NOT so:
I believe I've told you all about the time last year a squirrel attacked me. This incident has caused me to be wary of squirrels (and the SQUIRREL MAFIA which is a totally real thing and not all in my head). Anyway, yesterday as I was walking to the bus stop a squirrel made eye contact with me. I held the eye contact, as is my wont, but squirrels are very good at not blinking and eventually I turned away. Then I proceeded to the bus stop, where I was just in time to see the bus pull away. STUPID SQUIRREL MADE ME MISS MY BUS.

Congratulations to . . .Sister Meyers I suppose, though really that descriptor doesn't really work all things considered. And really? Like Llama? Well, at least you'll get along fine, a couple of relatives of mine are partners with/married to people I don't especially like and it's awkward.
Hmmm, the best way to defeat a particularly tenacious block is either to watch/read something absolutely amazing and creative and fun OR watch something that's utterly appalling, with little to no cohesion in any of the usual areas writers focus on. It shouldn't be dull either, as that would just kill you, but the events on-screen should be baffling or insane or outright confusing.

Actually, I remember testing to see if this functionality was implemented a year or so ago, but it wasn't back then. Good to see it being in place now... :3

Also, "basketti"? What's the story behind this word? :smallcurious:

Besides, it's easy enough to do. And it is quite fun; there's a thread over in the Complaints/Admin subsection that's just people posting spoilers to congratulate Rawhide on this feature.

Little Brother had the hardest time pronouncing 'spaghetti', he had a fifty percent success rate up until he was fifteen or so, and sometimes I still slip when I'm speaking stupidly fast. And earlier I was stuck in a queue with about half a dozen children, and they all decided to talk to me.
Not sure why though. :smallconfused:
And so basketti, because nostalgia, and children and it's somewhat adorable.

Also, I still say blapple and apple instead of 'blackberry and apple'.

This is captain randman speaking, letting the passenger know that that sound was the landing gear, which I forgot to retract. In other news, we are on course to arrive in about 45 minutes.

It's really hard to bake in a plane!

There has been many ups and downs.

For example, I forgot to put the seatbelt on. Turbulence was interesting. The buns were flying all over the place.

Landing in 20 minutes.

EDIT: Seatbelt wasn't any help. It's broken. WHY THE HELL did Randman purchase this plane from the Soviets?!
EDIT2: Our pilot is a liar. Apparently landing will not be in 20 minutes. I'm not sure where he's taking me. HAS HE KIDNAPPED ME?! :smalleek:
EDIT3: THE BLINDFOLD IS BACK ON OH DEAR NOES

The Squirrel Mob would not be pleased with your assertion of their existence, if they existed. They do not. You will take an all expenses paid vacation to lake Lao Gai if your persist in your assertion of existence of the squirrel mafia.

Sorry about that, folks. This plane isn't built like the ones they gave us in the RAF. That sound was the engine misfiring, I'd say... many times. When I tell you to brace, do so.
