Hello Giants!

I am building a Pathfinder Eldritch Knight that will eventually invest in the dancing dervish along with the dimensional dervish feat tree. When I am ready to level up to wizard (divination) - do I choose:

Bonded scimitar (spells, access to keen weapon upgrade - breakable)
or
Greensting scorpion (+4 init, hiding, alertness - squishable)

My GM is kinda stingy with items and I may be unable to shop for gear. Spending a feat for traits (knack and reactionary). With reactionary and divination, how useful is an additional +4 initiative? I've already painted my mini around this theme -

Cheers all!

Personally I'd go with the Familiar because they are really cool concept-wise (specially a scorpion, man I wish 3.5 had one) and can (or at least could) be really strong.

Besides unless I'm missing something, you don't need to go diviner to get a Keen effect on your weapon thanks to this handy spell (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/k/keen-edge)

I like divination for the concept of a truth-seeker (and an atheist). The initiative bonus is nice too. Illusion is one of my opposing schools - I seek truth, not create lies. The permanent keen edge I am hoping will add greatly to my EK 10 ability. And as a bonded item, I can enchant it myself. In case there is no keen scimitar out there.

The scorpion is really cool and I think I will be feat starved enough that improved familiar is off of the table.

I was going to mention that you could take Craft Magic Arms & Armour, but it since you seem to be feat starved it might not be a good idea.

On another note, have you considered Magus? They are basically Eldritch Knights as a base class, they do have less spellcasting power, but they seems to be lots of fun (I really hope I can play one soon).

Cheers Dusk! Actually my GM said 'no magus'. If you want a sword and spell type - build it the hard way.

Your diviner levels plus your trait should give you a better-than-average initiative due to the bonus to initiative and free re-rolls, especially since you will have a very high dex as well.

So while the scorpion is certainly a viable choice, I think the bonded weapon probably gives more bang for the buck, especially at lower levels where weapon enhancements are prohibitively expensive.

Besides Keen weapon, you probably will also want the Spell-Storing property. The Cunning enchantment would also fit well with a divination theme and a build that emphasizes criticals: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/magic-weapons/magic-weapon-special-abilities/cunning

Cheers Dusk! Actually my GM said 'no magus'. If you want a sword and spell type - build it the hard way.

Is there a reason for that, or is your DM just being a Richard?

No worries about the GM and no magus - his game and honestly it is making my build more creative. Limitation is the soul of all creativity after all. My custom EK seems more interesting than a cookie-cutter Magus.

Cheers!
