I have always thought the concept of poisons to be interesting in game, but it always seemed to me that by the time you can obtain or afford a poison the DC for ignoring it is just to low to be effective against most things your fighting.

Even the famous "Drow sleeping poison" only has a DC 13 to beat and that's at 75g per use (assuming you can find it).

Do you ever use a poison or similar with your characters, and if so what do you like to use?

Poison users tend to MAKE their poisons. This gives them a 6X cost reduction due to the special craft rules involved in poisons. This goes a long way to making it affordable.

Then there are various ways to boost DC or penalize saves.

You run into the problem that somewhere around level 10 or so everything and their mother becomes immune to poison.

Interesting, do you know where I would find methods for boosting the DCs?
