View Full Version : Custom magic item cost?

I'm either really bad at reading the magic item cost chart, or something else is up. I want to create a wreath that every day, once per day, grows Goodberries. According to the DMG's magic item creation rules, this item would cost 1800gp, using a CL of 1 and a 1st level spell that can happen once per day. That seems a little high, unless I'm doing it wrong. Can someone tell me how much this item would cost?

It should cost 400 gold by my calculation 2000 (continuous)/5 (once per day)=400.

Sounds like a lvl 1 eternal wand to me, you can use the formula from eternal wands to price it.

1800 (command-word)/(5/1) = 360gp. 720gp if it's slotless, as it seems.

You can't really use an eternal wand for this, because eternal wands only work with arcane spells, and goodberry doesn't appear on any arcane lists to my knowledge. You're probably going to need to use one of the other pricing models.

If you're gonna go full shenanigans a wyrm wizard or some other method of picking up other spells (un-errataed extra spell) can add it to some arcane casters list making it arcane and eligible to be made into an eternal wand. Its not really abusive for this specific case.

Eternal wands have 2 uses a day, not one, and even though the result is in no way overpowered the process is still tacky.

Just do a custom item, it's fine.
