This round has ended! Please come vote in the next round, found here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=16144979)!

In this tournament, quotes which won nominations here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=302659) and here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303560) will compete to determine the all-time* favorite OOTS quote as chosen by you, the fans!

*Well, all-time until someone else decides to redo this tournament a while on down the road.

RULES:

1. In each thread, I will post four matchups. You may vote for ONE quote in EACH matchup. Later threads will have fewer matchups as the tournament nears its conclusion.

2. Please post the number of the quote for which you are voting. The quote itself is optional.

3. If your quote loses, never fear! This is a double elimination tournament. A quote's first loss will move it to a losers' bracket, where if it beats the other quotes there it may eventually move on up as far as third place.

4. Voting for this round will conclude at 9PM EDT, on Wednesday, October 2nd. I will generally give a week for all rounds, unless it becomes clear that no one is voting for the last few days.

The round number is just that. The lowercase letter indicates what part of the round it is. Round 1 will have four parts, each consisting of four matchups.

So, without further ado, here are the matchups:

9. http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/9688/wizardguy.png "Excuse me, sir, if you're done pretending I can't hear you because I'm a nameless NPC, I'll head off to that tavern there to get utterly drunk in response to my life's apparent meaninglessness." 10. Xykon's speech about power.
11. Tarquin's speech about chickens.
13. Shojo's speech about dead wizards.
15. Xykon's speech about sacrificing minions.

10. :xykon: Xykon's speech about power (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0657.html) Classic.

12. :vaarsuvius: "And once again, Probablility proves itself willing to sneak into a back alley and service Drama as would a copper-piece harlot." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0584.html) V's diction here is genius -- great writing by the Giant. I don't know why Tarquin's quote is so popular; "can't make an omelet" jokes are a dime a dozen. (I grant that Tarquin's is a good one, but still.)

13. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/trytoguess/Shojo.png "Great idea! Here, I'll have my best wizard teleport you. 'Sure thing Lord Shojo! Teleport!' Oh look at that, it didn't work." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0379.html) Roy's GAH in response was one of the funniest moments of the comic.

16. :belkar: "Run, my pretty little chunks of XP, run!! "Surrender." Ha! How do they come up with this stuff?" (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0115.html) Just slightly funnier to me. Xykon's quote is funny, but the voice is a bit generic -- not specific to his personality.

My votes:

Round One: 10. :xykon: Xykon's speech about power (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0657.html)

Round 2: 11. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g68/Cats_Are_Aliens/Banners/Tarquin.png You can't make an omelette without ruthlessly crushing dozens of eggs beneath your steel boot and then publicly disemboweling the chickens that laid them as a warning to others. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0760.html)

Round 3: Crap. I love both of these quotes to bits. Ultimately, though, I'm going to go with 14. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g68/Cats_Are_Aliens/Banners/Tarquin.png "That's the beauty of it all, my son. If I win, I get to be a king. 3. Aaaagh, this is the tough one this round, and it's tougher than any choice LAST round. but it has to be: 14.

Which is too bad, because that Shojo quote deserves to move ahead: it's probably the second or third-best quote in this round's list.

And..

Gah! Dude!! Harsh choices all round! :smallfrown:

Ok...

10. :xykon: Xykon's speech about power (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0657.html) (that's the only easy one!)

12. :vaarsuvius: "And once again, Probablility proves itself willing to sneak into a back alley and service Drama as would a copper-piece harlot." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0584.html) (one of V's best (and faintly exasperated) quotes)

13. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/trytoguess/Shojo.png "Great idea! Here, I'll have my best wizard teleport you. 'Sure thing Lord Shojo! Teleport!' Oh look at that, it didn't work." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0379.html) (Tarquin's is great but lacks the punch of Shojo's comedy skeleton puppet show)

16. :belkar: "Run, my pretty little chunks of XP, run!! "Surrender." Ha! How do they come up with this stuff?" (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0115.html) (one of Belkar's best early day quotes, IMO)

(http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0340.html) - Xykon's quote about power was problematic, for a few reasons. "Power equals power", what's next, "Strength equals strength"? His point was that it doesn't matter what kind of power you have, which is true. I also don't think that it's true that power is something you are, there is no need for power to be permanent. If Xykon would lose all his magic because he failed a save, does that mean that he never had any power? His argument is very shaky.

I also quite like the quote from Wizard Guy, so yeah.

Abstain - I don't like either of those quotes.

Honestly, I was surprised Tarquin's "best story EVER" quote didn't do better. His other quote and Vaarsuvius' was the closest match so far, though.
