So, I just got Fallout New Vegas for the low price of 9.99.

So far, I'm doing great, it's fun and I'm just wondering... How on earth do I fix my Plasma Pistol?

I love the thing and would be greatly saddened if it broke.

Also, I figured for simple thread Economy, we could make this into a fallout discussion thread as well..

(Note: sent a report suggesting a merge with an existing Fallout discussion thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=276084) that'd fallen to the second page)

To repair your Plasma Pistol, use a Weapon Repair Kit (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Weapon_repair_kit) while the pistol's equipped. If you got the Ultimate Edition, you should have received some with the Caravan Pack items, and there's one in Victor's Shack. Alternatively, find a second Plasma Pistol, and smash the two together.

Repairing things through the process of combination always made me giggle a little bit. :smallamused:

It gets better with 90 Repair and Jury Rigging (http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Jury_Rigging). :smalltongue:

Fix the Two-Step Goodbye? Use some boxing tape to attach a set of brass knuckles and it'll be fine! Broken Super Sledge? Use a couple of pool cues as a splint! Cut up an old dress to patch up leather armor, replace the bulletproof lenses of a T-51b helmet with some old eyeglasses...

Nah, just set them on the ground and jump up and down until the result is better than the components. :D

I always thought it was replacing worn components and discarding the rest. Pity it doesn't give some scrap back.

Speaking of the Couriers Stash, I ran across a cool mod on the Nexus that lets you toggle which ones you want to get so you don't end up weighed down with the useless junk your character isn't going to use.

Ahhhh..... Jury Rigging. The way to almost unlimited caps.

Jury Rigging is my favorite perk. I always work on raising my repair skill with every level-up so I can get it as quickly as I can. That's a necessity, really, since I run some mods which give me custom gear which can't be repaired any other way.

Okay, enough about that. New topic-- Do you tend to help Mr House take over, or take over yourself? Tough choice. House is a mild-mannered tyrant who can ultimately lead humanity back to it's former glory, but you can make everyone happy. Decisions, decisions...

House won't let me keep the Brotherhood. I like the Brotherhood. House dies.

I've got the game of the year edition for 20€ on Steam and damn, that game rocks. Way better than Fallout 3 in my opinion, especially with the DLCs that came with the GotY-Edition.

I've just got into New Vegas (although I'm almost done with the rest of the game, I put off going there on purpose) and currently robbing casinos blind with my 8 luck. The game can get somewhat ridicilous with 20 more levels to go, since the perks that had to be crammed into 30 levels can now leisurely be spread over 50 levels, same for the skill points. I won't even mention my SPECIAL points.

Oh, and I know one thing: if it's Ceasar's Legion, it's DEAD.

My opinion on the DLCs:
Lengthwise I'd say they all clock in somewhere around 8 hours, with Lonesom Road and Honest Hearts at the shorter end, and Old World Blues the longest, if I remember correctly. I really like how the DLCs gave the developers the possibility to play with their options a bit and introduce new facettes to life in the wasteland, even if, or rather, because of the fact that they are "instances" and their own locations. I also like the fact that they are very much story-driven, even if that takes something away from the freedom that makes Fallout 3/NV so great. But I can take a break from drifting through the Mojave and play a little self contained story.

And now to something completely different! Some commenter put it pretty spot-on: it looks and feels like something from BioShock (right down to the art-decor), and it's certainly a spike in difficulty as well. Exploring the Sierra Madre and it's mysteries is fun and actually creepy at first, and retreating the demise of Sinclair's greatest dream is haunting, but can get boring and repetitive, because there are only a few types of enemies (well, only one general type split into three sub-types), and the environment doesn't really change. Even your comrades, as great as they are, tend to get on your nerves after 10 minutes, because they have maybe 4 lines which they repeat ad-nauseam. Speaking of comrades: each one is a nice character with some depths, although I found Dog/God a bit heavy on the symbolism. Dog/God, one of whom is higly intelligent, while the other is a violent beast. One can't exist while the other does. Get it?
Then, in the final hours, it switches, and instead becomes a heist and a tragic love story. Very well made!

Some other things that annoyed me: weapons in F:NV degrade QUICKLY. That usually isn't a problem, but here, it is. Now, I know that having to scavenge for supplies is a key element of horror and survival settings, but frankly, it's a bit funny, almost. Oh, I shot three times, now my revolver went from brand new to rusty and broken. Let's go find ANOTHER one.

Pro:
+ singular atmosphere, great thematic spine
+ challenging!
+ well done characters
+ TWIST!
+ Elijah

- repetitive
- annoying allies
- everything degrades way too quickly

More tomorrow!
