View Full Version : Challenge: Build me a better Gesalt

The challenge is simple. Build me a gesalt character that breaks the game in as many ways as possible. Exploit every rule, every loophole, every badly written entry available in any book, magazine, or online article. I want a GM to hate the character.

However, I do have three rules. One, no actual world destoyers. I want the build to break the world, not blow it up. Two, no named characters. No punpun, no cindy, no bob, none of them. The idea is to be unique. The last prereq is that it must be a viable character from level 1. You have to show the progression of the character.

Otherwise, just go at it.

Have fun!

Not totally sure what you mean by "break the world, don't destroy it." Usually, if you can do one you can do the other. Or at least, you have the capacity to do either. A Tier 2 could pick one of those and do it really well. A Tier 1 could do both if they felt like it.

Anyway, my suggestion is:
StP Erudite 20//any sort of Wizard build leading up to two levels of Wyrm Wizard (or Recaster if you're a Changeling) at the end. Erudite 20 is Tier 0. Like a Wizard, it's capable of learning new powers like a Wizard learns new spells. Unlike a Wizard, it's capable of learning any arcane spell as a power, not just Sorc/Wiz spells. Also unlike a Wizard, it doesn't have to prepare spells/powers at the beginning of the day, instead drawing from spaces in a Unique Powers per Day (per Level by most interpretations, though this isn't actually an issue) list. You can learn new powers/spells of a level equal to the max level you can manifest-1.

So. You get a bunch of powers with Erudite 20, and a bunch of Wizard spells with your Wizard levels. Encode the powers onto Power Stones and scribe the spells onto Scrolls, and then use Psychic Reformation to swap all your choices for both classes to get a whole new set of powers and spells. Repeat until you have all powers and spells in Power Stone and Scroll Form. With the Recaster/Wyrm Wizard levels, you can choose spells from other lists to make into an Arcane spell you can learn. This will take a very long time, but eventually you can collect all the spells from all the lists. You may want to use a Thought Bottle to mitigate XP costs, or better yet use the 7th level Wu-Jen spell to make copies who can pay the cost for you (at least for the psionics, which Body Outside Body clones can still use. The spells might still be an issue. Don't worry about the duration, that'll be taken care of in a moment.) Once you have all spells and powers (of 8th level and lower, plus the 9th level spells you know as a Wizard. You may be able to use the Magic Mantle ACF to make spells count as powers to get 9th level spells, but this is a little iffy), use your Erudite ability to learn them all. Or better yet, get a Body Outside Body clone (or a thousand) to learn them all for you, and have them use Psychic Chirurgery to implant all those powers into your mind. You now know all spells and powers.

You can use all of these spells and powers as you please, because you don't need to prepare them. And your UPD is no issue either. With the psionic power Soul Crystal from Magic of Incarnum, you can create crystals stocked with power points capable of holding a power, which means that you could feasibly cast any non-Metapsionically enhanced power simply by using the power Soul Crystal. You will never run out of PP, because the spell Mental Pinnacle will let you refuel 3*ML PP for a mere 15 PP cost. Sure, you sacrifice your casting to do that, but you don't need it. All spells and powers you ever use on yourself as buffs will last forever, because every turn you can manifest Temporal Reiteration to make the last turn not count toward duration. This is also how you can get tons of clones hanging around. By means of all the many psionics tricks abusing Synchronicity and Hustle and Linked Power, not to mention Temporal Acceleration, you can basically take as many actions as you like, so no need to worry about refueling in the middle of battle.

Congratulations. You are every spellcaster at once, but better. You no longer need to play D&D.

EDIT: Oh, you changed the qualifications in the OP. Well, this build takes two Tier 1 (I guess Erudite is only Tier 0 when you get to do all the shenanigans above) and just sticks them together. It would be not unlike playing a double Wizard, or I guess sort of like a Wizard and a Sorcerer at the same time, since if you're not using the Erudite's power learning ability early on, it would be like having a small list of powers not unlike the Sorcerer. Except with Int synergy. A non-gestalt Wizard is stronger than two gestalt Tier 3s, so a 1.5xWizard can definitely pull its weight. And then eventually you get into the world breakage above.

Why do you want a GM to hate your character? That doesn't seem like a good way to keep a GM.

Not totally sure what you mean by "break the world, don't destroy it."

Clarification: Yes, they may have the ability, but that shouldn't be the main feature. I don't want a build where the whole idea is to depopulate the world.

Actually, I'm more curious as to how creative players can be in build uber gesalt's. The "make the GM hate it" is more to give them an idea of what I'm looking for and to stop any "the GM would never allow X" arguments that might pop up.

Psion 20//Factotum 8/Thrallherd 10/whatever 2. Invest in umd and as soon as its possible buy a scroll of shapechange (level 1 if you're allowed to break wbl using your abilities) otherwise a bit later. Shapechange into a zodar as many times as you want to get various useful scrolls and lots of gold. Pay stp erudites to implant every psychic power and spell with Psychic Chirurgery. Use Dark chaos shuffle to get as many font of inspiration feats as you want for factotum action economy abuse. Thrallherd lets you get extra characters to do whatever other things you might want.

Psion 20//Totemist 2/Wizard 5/Incantatrix 10/Archmage 2/Ardent 1

Psion gets all Spells as Powers from Archivist>Wyrm Wizard>StP Erudite Psychic Chirurgery, allowing Save Game Trick. Ardent 1 gives Magic Mantle makes Magic and Spells Identical. Miracle as a Power allows XP-less Dark Chaos Shuffle via Body Outside Body, and get all Metamagic everywhere, and all other Metamgic reducers and also the same for Metapower psionics etc. Open Chakras and Double Chakras on Totems means you can get loads of Bound Soulmelds, and just stack up on extra essentia until permanently maxed.

I have a build that goes:

Dvati society mind 20 // martial monk 2/factotum 3/illithid savant 10 (using soul crystals or power stones of Metamorphosis to qualify, and the Primary Contact and Laborious Training feats for early qualification)/legacy champion 5 (progressing illithid savant), taking Supernatural Transformation to turn its psionics into a Su ability (bypassing SR, along with lots of other goodies).

Thing is, it's a fluid build. It starts out by having psion instead of society mind. As soon as it hits level 9, it makes power stones of all of its powers known, uses illithid savant to grab the metamind's font of power ability and learns Metamorphosis and Psionic Dominate through research or Expanded Knowledge, buys a soul crystal (from MoI) each of Fusion and Astral Seed, as well as a shrink collar (from A&EG), then immediately finds the tarrasque, Metamorphosises into a harmless Fine-sized creature, like a ladybug or a dragonfly, lands on the tarrasque in a place it can't reach (such as behind its head in the crease between its skin and shell), and repeats Psionic Dominate until it fails its save. Command the tarrasque to put on the shrink collar, then you Metamorphosis into a hydra or something, then have it drop all of its defenses, followed by Fusion + Astral Seed + seppuku.

When you come back, you are now a level 48 creature. Combine a bunch of permanent negative levels with a thought bottle to reformat all of those racial HD into class levels, then retrain all of your psion levels into society mind. Use illithid savant to grab the StP erudite's ability to learn arcane spells and psionic powers (note that you're not limited by its UPPD, and that your XP expenditure for learning new spells and powers is 0), as well as the mantled wilder/warrior/erudite ACF to grab the Magic Mantle and the geomancer's spell versatility ability. Use various means to get all the divine spells in the game (such as Extra Spell, and one level each of prestige bard/paladin/ranger). Take 3 levels of cleric and Initiate of Mystra for immunity to antimagic fields and dead magic zones.

Now go find a devastation beetle and cast Polymorph Any Object on it until it fails its save so you can turn it into a human or something. Repeat the Dominate/Fusion/Astral Seed/retraining trick to boost your level up to 128. After manifesting Fusion but before manifesting Astral Seed, pay a bard to use Inspire Greatness for an additional 2 HD.

Congratulations! You're now level 130.

Now, since all of your epic levels on one side will be epic illithid savant, you'll have dozens of racial and class abilities to play with. Make sure you grab abilities you want all the time, no matter what form you take, since you'll make full use of shapeshifting magic. The hagunemnon's ability to borrow four Ex abilities of any creature of your choice simultaneously? Yes. The tarrasque's regeneration ability? Yes. The ghost's malevolence and rejuvenation abilities? Yes, so long as you ambush a ghost on the ethereal plane or force it into corporeality on the material plane. The possibilities are nigh limitless.

You also have a base manifester level of 130 (no matter what your post-20 levels are, due to Supernatural Transformation), can get oodles of ML boosters due to magic/psionics transparency (my build has a max ML of just over 1,500, due to variable ML boosters for certain types of spells and powers), know every power and spell in the game, have unlimited power points due to font of power and the Temporal Reiteration power, have tons of action economy abuse due to various powers, spells, and racial and class abilities (see: chronotyryns, chokers, and ruby knight vindicators, among others), and any and all template abilities you might want through the Fusion/Astral Seed combo, illithid savant, and the hagunemnon.

Oh, and due to abusing the BoED's aleax, nothing can harm you with attacks, and you're otherwise invulnerable due to knowing all those powers and spells. And if something somehow manages to kill you, note that, as a dvati, your consciousness spreads out among multiple bodies (which can be further multiplied by using hagunemnon to steal the ochre jelly's Split ability, and all of your bodies will share the same mind and soul), so someone will have to kill every single body you've got, which is a Herculean task. Also, plant one body in a flowing time demiplane and you can do all sorts of broken things, like researching and casting an epic spell in less than a round (using your thralls and believers from that level of thrallherd you took, along with various Leadership feats to boost your number of followers; if that doesn't work, take Leadership instead). And if someone actually manages to kill all of your bodies? You still have Contingent Resurrection, the tarrasque's regeneration, the ghost's rejuvenation, the jade phoenix mage's emerald immolation, etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.

Not to mention that there's a trick to multiply all of your equipment using a pit full of quintessence and a mirror of opposition.

So... Yeah. Basically it jumps up from level 9 to level 130 within a few days, and with very little risk. Very nice, I think.
