My group has been tossing around the idea to play as the batman villains as our PC characters. There are three of us thinking of being the Scarecrow, Joker and Twoface, but the only person we might have run the game at this point is a bit of a rules lawyer, as in if it is his favor he will enforce the rule. So be for we try and get to far in to asking him about it. I thought I would see if there were many books that might do some of the things scarecrow or the joker do with alchemy. Such as fear gasses, or the acid flower. I know there a plenty of straight damage poisons out there but I need a reference for things that might make someone hallucinate. RAW if at all possible, and the book dose not matter. I think he might accept some of the third party books as well.

I suggest a confusion spell.

The Joker has already been built (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=5496158#post5496158), though I think it was designed as a counter to the typical Batman Wizard (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104002).

Scarecrow should probably be some sort of fear build (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104002), such as this one (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=252815#4) which also happens to be a Bard.

Twoface didn't really have a gimmick that could be translated into game mechanics, but apparently Batman taught him quite a bit about fighting and detective work, plus he always carries tons of assorted weapons. I'd go with a Batman Wizard build for him, with Shax's Indispensable Haversack (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=148101), and just role-play his quirks.

Dust of Sneezing and Choking (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/cursedItems.htm#dustofSneezingandChoking) should be the go-to for a mess-them-up-with-gas gimmick.

You could probably build Two-Face as a luck based character. Like Milo Brushscrubber (built for one of the Iron Chef challenges I think).

For Scarecrow, you might want to look into building up to the Dread Witch prestige class from Heroes of Horror. As you advance through levels in it, you get a fear aura, modify your spells to cause fear effects in addition to other effects, can use your own fear to give yourself enhancements, etc. A whole bunch of nifty little tricks that add to the whole "Master of Fear" character idea.

For Two-Face ... maybe you want to multi-class? Like, take one character class to build around the Harvey Dent side that concentrates more on diplomacy and buffing allies and take another built around senseless violence to represent the Two-Face side. And you'll need to consider taking some feats for two-weapon fighting. I think that there are several "luck" feats available to characters in Complete Scoundrel that you could take a look at too. Other than that, flip a coin in real life to decide where you stand on issues in game.

For Joker, look at some levels in Rogue for some of their dirty tricks, and take a whole lot of levels in Cleric with "Madness" as your main Domain (Complete Divine). Gives you several Joker-y spells, and the Granted Power for Madness has a certain Joker vibe to it too.

In general, I'd avoid doing things alchemically/chemically with these guys, and focus on using spells. It's pretty much just a feature of how D&D parcels out the archetypes that things that in a superhero setting would be done with gadgets are done in a D&D setting with magic.
