It is a simple few days in hyperspace aboard the Mist Nexus; the ship flies beautifully despite her slightly dysfunctional personality. It is not long before you find yourselves pulling out of hyperspace and into sub-orbit above Formos.

The Formos Spaceport lies in the middle of a forbidding rocky desert, which is shrouded by dusty dark clouds. Were it not for its position at the junction of busy hyperspace routes, it is unlikely that anyone would choose to live there. While it is a terrestrial planet with a breathable atmosphere and standard gravity, life does not flourish upon the world's dry surface. The spaceport is the only settlement of note on the entire barren surface. It is known mostly for shady deals and rough customers.

Despite its grim reputation, the Formos Spaceport is famed among the smuggling community. It lies at the far end of the Kessel Run, a narrow corridor of navigable space that snakes between the asteroid fields and black hole clusters that separate Formos from the prison planet Kessel. After the Kessel Run terminates in an asteroid- filled nebula known as the Pit, most pilots proceed to Formos to link up with more defined hyperspace lanes to reach the wider galaxy. The mines of kessel produce one of the most lucrative spices in the galaxy. This is glitterstim, a narcotic reported to induce a telepathic high in those who use it.

The Mist Nexus is cleared for landing by a gruff sounding Twi'Lek, and soon you find yourselves putting down in the one of the few docking bays in the spaceport. The doors hiss open and the ramp extends out with great speed, clanging against the durasteel deck of the port. Two Rodians and a Yuzzum emerge from a control room to greet you. Above them on a metal promenade stand three Trandoshans. The lizards are armed with heavy blaster rifles, the bug-eyes have pistols slung at their hips, while the Yuzzum bears nothing save an ornate red tunic and a datapad.

Many crates and thick tubes lie scattered about the circular docking bay, offering excellent places to take cover. Along the far wall, to your right, rest several deactivated repair droids that have been left carelessly slumped on the ground. Beside them is a closed door, leading to the control room. To your left is a large ramp leading up to the promenade that runs the circuit around the bay. The exit leading to the central docking facility and the planet proper is situated directly behind you on the promenade. However, the thugs that stand before you have spaced themselves out to the point where they block your access to both the ramp and the control room.

"Ah, my friends, welcome to Formos," the furry creature drawls, "Now if I could just collect the person tax from you. The price to enter the planet is 100 credits per person, nonnegotiable."

Horza

It is with a frustrated heart that the Gand pilot/captain of the Mist Nexus brings his craft in for landing, sliding effortlessly into the atmosphere. It's not often, but sometimes, Horza wishes he had disclaimed his inheritance to the ship from a former employer and acquired a vessel the old-fashioned way. At least then, the debt would have been his as a direct signatory rather than as an inheritor, and perhaps the ship he might have gotten out of the deal would be less problem-riddled in its drives. His stomachs had clenched the entire flight, thinking about those problems and the amount he still owed which, when compounded, never seemed to go down quite enough.

The jump to Formos had been fraught, the hyperdrive taking longer--as usual--to actually come online and execute the astrometics input. At least it wasn't in a fight...but it could have been, the captain thought grimly when the Citadel-class had finally translated into hyperspace.

Still, she's his, she's his ticket to the universe, a subscription that has to keep getting renewed, and he wouldn't trade her for (many) brand new chassis on the market right now.

Now, at Formos, things feel...desperate. It's been awhile since they hit a decent score, and the Hutt bounty might just make that.

"Ish, we've got Trandoshans, either take it easy or stay aboard," Horza grumbles as Mist Nexus slides into the docking slip. "We already came to find trouble, no reason to grab a double handful from the get-go," he mutters as he keys the docking ramp open, slipping his trusty blaster onto his hip. "But, you know, I'm feeling...optimistic," he says with a strange insectoid chuckle. "That'll keep as long as I don't have to deal with Customs or Port Administration, of course," he adds, noting the amount of firepower currently in the hangar. "Someone else can go down first, I'm going to run through postflight again." And hope the old girl's hyperdrive can get us out when we need it to, he thinks sourly.

Isshliakazza (Ish)

The massive Wookiee, in the process of gathering his gear for the mission, makes an irritated growl-hoot at the mention of Trandoshans. Already being uppity upon landing was a bad sign; nobody had wanted to play sabacc during the trip, and both the Captain and Xhandree had seemed stressed about the ship's hyperdrive issues. A number of choice remarks about Trandoshans spring to the Wookiee's mind, tough he manages to refrain from further colorful commentary, given Syslyth's presence.

<I'm not going first,> Ish replies to the Captain in Shyriiwook. <Someone can talk to his people, or someone else can haggle. I don't need it.> Though he owes both the Captain and Mist Nexus's resident Trandoshan a life-debt, no reason to throw that life away by starting a fight with a bunch of lizards. Let them start and I'll finish though, he thinks, strapping on a bandolier.

"let's see, Formos, Formos..." thought Darrec, poring over his wigs and wardrobes for a good disguise. "Rough and tumble sort of place, probably want to stay low key and leave the fancy stuff on the ship." Then, picking up a tall gold-embellished statesman's hat, "Too bad. I never get to wear this thing. I'll have to suggest to the captain that we have our next caper at a Dubrillion charity ball." After a few more minutes, he settles on a beat-up ruddy duster coat and loose fitting multipocketed pants with clunky black boots. As part of his preparations, he carefully slips a sandy wig onto his head and ruffles it for good measure before "carelessly" slapping a round, billed hat on over it. A little 'dirt' on his face and hands, and he's any other spacer. He takes a second or two in front of the mirror to adopt the proper slouching, weary posture before grabbing his satchel of supplies and stowing his two small blasters in his coat. Finally, he carefully takes his vibrosword down from it's place on the wall. He takes a reverent look at it before slinging it under the coat, positioning it so as to be hidden but accessible. It might be safer on the ship, but he dare not let it be far from his person.

He strides confidently out the door of his quarters. Before heading to see the captain, he makes a point to swing by engineering. He whistles to get the attention of Xhadree, the ship's mechanic, doing a full turn to show her his disguise. "Well, 'Dree? How do I look?" he asks.

"It seems we have arrived. Do you wish me to check the local network for information on the individual we intend to apprehend?" MC-K01 turned to Horza. "Also, I believe there are several armed individuals outside. I calculate a 84% chance that there are here to collect additional fees from us beyond the accepted docking and servicing requirements. How do you wish to procede?"

Even before reaching the engineering section, Darrec can hear angry mutterings. "What the blazes is eating these karked transfer circuits?!" Apparently, the young Twi'lek mechanic is still attempting to trace down the reason for the last hyperdrive hiccup. Though without much luck, judging from the less-than-cheerful swearing that accompanies her work ...

At his whistle, Xhadree turns around, rearranging a dark smear on her face with the back of her hand. A less-than-gracious "What!?" makes way for a wry grin when she sees the young man standing at the entrance. "Ah, Darrec. Still whistling at the ladies, I see."

"Well, 'Dree? How do I look?"

After careful consideration of Darrec's outfit, Xhadree cups her hands around her mouth. "Captain, we got a stowaway here!" she mock-calls down the corridor. The mechanic chuckles. "You look like something the mynock dragged in."

Syslyth is gathering his gear as the craft is set down. He slides his numerous weapons into place all over his scaly hide, carefully giving them one last check before he does so. It certainly wouldn't do to have them malfunction like this ship seems about to. he thinks as he hoists his rifle over his head and secures it on his back with its strap.

At the mention of others of his species, Syslyth's mouth curls in what those who know him would recognize as a grin. Perhaps he'll get to fight worthy opponents today? The smile fades as his more rational mind takes over - it wouldn't do to make trouble so very soon after arriving. That's bad for business. All armed and ready, he exits the small store area and looks for the others.

'Someone should go speak to those men." he says when he finds them in his usual deep, throaty voice. "I believe they're here to extort us."

"Yes, Emcee, that would be a help," he absent-mindedly responds to the droid, again noting the small, armed crowd outside. "Though I think Darrec and Syslyth are best suited to getting a fee down, but I don't want to have to blast our way our of here quite yet." He sits back down in the pilot's chair, running the computer through a simulation of the jump out here, trying to give 'Dree a clue as to where exactly the failure came from.

Meanwhile, Back on the hanger bay floor, the Yuzzum stamps his foot impatiently as no one has come out to greet him. "It has come to my attention," he says, sounding somewhat annoyed, "that this ship and its crew has been selected for additional processing. Please proceed to line up in an orderly fashion and we will deal with you on an individual first come basis. Thank you"

"You look like something the mynock dragged in." Upon hearing this, Darrec chuckles and bows slightly. "Then I'd say the illusion is complete." Before he can continue bantering with Xhadree, however, Darrec hears the impatient, grating voice of the "welcoming committee" outside.

"My public awaits. Wish me luck, 'Dree."

Darrec heads for the boarding ramp and pulls out his datapad. He sends two short messages: one to the captain and one to MC.

To the captain: You smell a scam here, boss-man? I'll work my magic on our new friends, but have Sys on standby in case we need something big and scary out there with me.

To MC: You got anything on file for this place I need to know, MC? Message me back on my datapad if you come up with anything noteworthy.

As he approaches the exit ramp, Darrec enters character. I think I'll call this one Dack Bolten, the gruff cargo captain, he thinks to himself.

"Ey, what gives?" Darrec saysin an exasperated, gravelly voice to the welcoming party. "We're on a schedule here, and I wasn't told about no 'additional fees.'"

"Wish you luck? That would be unfair ... to them." A smirk curves Xhadree's mouth. "Mon Cals in a fishbowl, Darrec."

The young mechanic waits for her newest comrade to walk off towards the ramp, then reaches for the blaster holster that was resting next to her tool kit. A quick check of the DH-23, then she fastens the holster to her leg and follows Darrec.

Near the boarding ramp, she comes to a stop. Taking care to stay out of sight for now, the Twi'lek perks up her ears and follows the exchange outside.

Horza clicks his mandibles when he receives Darrec's message and types out a response: +++Horza always thinks Outer Rim spaceports are a scam. Hundred cred just to disembark on top of docking fees? Try and talk them down. 'Additional processing' is never good either.+++

Noting that 'Dree is no longer digging into the ship's guts, Horza makes a buzzing, clicking sigh, doublechecks his blaster, and heads forward towards the ramp. He tries to recall what he knows about this particular planet, its customs and how the system is at least supposed to work...or if there's a name or contact he could mention to get these people off their backs.

Browsing the basic information, MC-K01 didnt see too much that was relevant. He didnt have a login for the system, but it was unlikely security on a border planet like this would be as vigilant as in the empire proper- adjusting the comm controls, he began to scan for other wireless access attemps, monotoring their codes and success or failure. Sooner or later, he should be able to deduce the key to their encription, using the same perfectly valid login as someone who had just logged off.

Two additional Advantages. You're still not going to be able to hack into it *immediately*, but it will only take about 20 seconds or so. In there you do find records of this "Person Tax", but strangely only recently, and it's all being wired to an account: BDobah2438 and even stranger still, the amount seems to be a mere 10 credits, on top of the usual ship docking fee of 20 credits. This entire process takes you about 30 seconds to accomplish, after which you can feel free to tell the rest of the party about it.

Horza has never heard of a "Person Tax" before, and the additional processing seems quite unusual as well. Normally on such questionable outer rim planets the motto is don't ask and you aren't implicated.

The Yuzzum attempts to smile at Darrec, but the gesture looks quite grotesque and seems akin to baring his teeth. He walks over to Darrec and puts his arm around Darrec's shoulder, taking on an odd accent you can't quite place: "My friend! I know these kinds of of unexpected events can put a sour on your day, but listen, I am only trying to do my job, as you are only trying to do yours. The sooner we get this done with, the better it turns out for all of us". He gives another toothy grin, "Now how many will be entering our planet today?"

Darrec hears an electronic buzz from his satchel and pulls out his datapad, glancing over the message from the captain. The boss-man's probably right on this one. What do you say we lower the price to 50 creds, and I'll pretend I never saw you. MC-K01 looked up forom the comm panel, addressing the captian. "Sir, there have been reports of a person tax in the planetary databases, but correlating with the planatary finance net, it seems unlikely that the charge was more than 10 credits per person. Not enough people you can say that about on this end of the galaxy. I'm gonna get to unloadin' here, and while I'd love to talk shop, I'm sure you got work to do too. No rest for the wicked, am I right?"
As Darrec turned to go back up the ramp, he had an idea. It seemed he'd caught this Yuzzum on a good day. Might be time to press his luck a bit.

"Ey, uh, before ya head out, I got a question. One working guy to another." Darrec motioned for the furry little man to lean closer again before whispering. "I'm lookin' for something that pays a little better than haulin' ship parts and cheap ryll. Don't mind if it's a little 'under the radar' neither. Before the Yuzzum can answer, Darrec notices another message on his datapad. They're all right behind the door? he thinks. Better cut this off before one of them accidentally trips or something.
"Ohh, gotta take this buddy. I'll see ya round I guess. Hey, if you find anything out about that uh, 'job opportunity' I was talkin about you ping me back on this datapad." He gives the Yuzzum one of the many false holomail addresses linked to his datapad, waves a friendly goodbye, and starts back up the ramp.
As he returns to the ship, he forwards a message to the whole crew. <It's in the bag everyone. But he thinks it's just me on board. wait till Smiley and his goons leave before coming out. You've been a wonderful audience ;) >

"Horza congratulates your efforts, Darrec. Now we probably should disembark before anyone comes back to look closer. Find a bar, gather information. Find the trail of creds around, should lead us to Bandin Dobah, Horza thinks. Get in, get out, but we need him alive. So...thoughts on the details?"

Hopefully his jest would help lighten things. Horza had been more worried than usual lately. He'd been hiding it well, but Darrec could tell something was up.

Having taken a seat, Xhadree considers the suggestions so far, her tchun's end in a thoughtful curl. "Not sure if we can lure him out like that ... if he's the big boss around here, he won't even have reason to come out to meet mere freighter tramps." She rubs her chin for a moment.

"Crime bosses tend to have underlings and business partners come to them, right? Impress them with their wealth and power, the lylek's den, and all that. Maybe even expect newcomers to their turf to present themselves before doing any business ..." The young mechanic looks around at the others. "Maybe we could pose as smugglers who want to work for Big Bad Bandin, try to gain a measure of his trust - and casually scout out his den a bit?"

Ish peeks through a viewport, watching the Trandoshans disperse and the Yuzzum and Rodians with them a few moments later. Slightly disappointed by the lack of glorious combat, he simply tells himself that of course it'll be coming in the future with this line of work.

Ish stands in the door of the lounge, arms folded as he listens to the options. <Xhadree's probably right. If Dobah's running the spice trade here, he'd be the guy to talk to for anyone who wants in and that's a good way to find him. But if we're 'nobody' smugglers arranging a meeting to be part of his supply network, we'd probably talk to one of his minions first, and they probably wouldn't let us come armed. Not a problem for me and Syslyth of course,> he barks a laugh, holding up a massive Wookiee paw. <We might have more luck if we try to arrange more than one meeting - split the team up, don't want to arouse suspicion and these type of players, they're always suspicious,> he adds, thinking back to his days in the employ of the pirates and his former captain's infamous paranoia.

Horza slowly turns his head to look at the droid. "Emcee, you were looking into the fees, were you not? Did you find an account number, or any other information that would link Dobah is behind the fees? Horza was just intuiting it might be him as top vornskr, but hard proof would definitely help us to move forward...find his money, find his bank, find him, or find out where he spends, like you suggest, and catch him along the way to a place he frequents." There's a moment of silence before Horza enters into a buzzing, clicking laughter. "That is a brilliant idea, Emcee, do you think you can slice that information? Horza knows it is not your specialty...In any case once we grab him Horza bets it is going to be a run-and-shoot back to the ship. So, who wants to go to a bar?"

At the prospect of a good drink, Darrec's hand shoots straight up.
"While MC's following the holotrail, I don't mind casing the locals for information. If we're splitting up, I call the Wookiee. And Xhadree, but only if she lets me buy at the bar." While the ship's mechanic might see this as an attempt to take her on a date of sorts, Darrec had other plans in mind. You'd be surprised what a drunk thug will say around a pretty girl that he might not otherwise.

Horza can try and assist Emcee, wherever Emcee needs to go to keep tracking those funds, talk up people about secure banking institutions. Maybe Syslyth can watch our backs or talk with those other Trandoshans in case things go south. Crime lords tend to not like their accounts to become public access, or so I've heard." Ish makes a slightly concerned soft hooting noise, looking at both Syslyth and Horza going in the group that doesn't include him. Of course the Trandoshan warrior is quite experienced and can handle his own, but this is about principle!

<I...would rather go with one that I have pledged a life-debt to, but...if the Captain and Syslyth think it's best to split up like this, then...fine.> He winds up baring his teeth at this last bit but says nothing more, though he still looks a little worried, Ish doesn't want to come across like he's belitting Syslyth's obvious martial prowess, and the Captain has agreed to this suggestion...

Horza can understand Ish's drive to stay around him, but given the Trandoshan presence here, the Wookiee could unfortunately become a liability if too many people see him. "Probably best for you to go with Darrec," The Gand says slowly. "Horza understands, but with so many Trandoshans around, Horza doesn't think you being around another one will keep the profile low, and Darrec can probably talk any of them in the bar out of anything nasty involving you. Horza probably couldn't do the same. Plus, a Gand with a Trandoshan and a Type-One droid, if we're looking to buy supplies or set up banking operations, it would make sense for an investor to have a smart droid and strong muscle around, Horza doesn't think we will attract as much attention just looking around compared to bringing a Wookiee, and you in a bar will look less out of place, just passing through. Horza thinks so anyway. And of course Horza will comm you if we get in over our heads," he adds.

The Gand gives a slight nod to Derric. "As Horza said, it's fine with Horza. Is it fine with Xhadree and Syslyth? If so, we can get underway."

Ish looked a little perturbed, thought Darrec.
"Big guy, you know why I took you with me right? We're headed into a bar here. Sys is a pretty capable fighter, but in the event of a brawl in such close quarters, no one's better to have around than a Wookiee, you know that. Besides, like the captain said, we'll be in constant contact via comm. Though I don't mind the prospect of having one less 'chaperone'." Darrec gave a half-joking wink in Xhadree's direction. Of course she knows I'm joking. That last bit would hopefully prod Ish into coming along just to keep an eye on 'that scoundrel Darrec'.

Leaving her seat, she glides over to Isshliakazza and links arms with him. "Of course you can buy us girls a few drinks, good sir," the blue-skinned mechanic chirps mock-seriously. "But I do hope you don't plan to take advantage of us when we're tipsy!"

"Anyway, unless there's objection from Syslyth, that's the plan. Emcee, why don't you figure out where we need to go for you to do your thing?" Horza absent-mindedly runs a hand over a nearby bulkhead, thinking. Syslyth makes one final check of his gear before leaning over to Horza and whispering gently in his ear. "And between you and me, I'm happy not to be with the Wookie. Life-debt or no, that's not exactly something welcomed by my culture. Those other Trandoshans would think less of me if they knew."

"Before we head out, I think I'll change." Darrec said as he returned to his room. As he left the lounge, he called to Xhadree "And I wouldn't worry about me, Xhadree. I suspect you can hold your ale far better than I can." In an attempt to leave before she could snipe back, he bolted for his room.

Within, he contemplated his next disguise as he remove the old one. As he unslung his sword and laid it on his bunk, he gave a short, formal bow in it's direction. Always respect the blade, he was taught, no matter where you take it. This time, he thought, he'd break out a choppy black wig tied loose at the back. A scrap of false hair on his chin and the face was complete.
Clothing-wise, he opted for an oversized reddish padded jacket and black pants with short boots. Rolling up the jacket's sleeves, he tossed on a pair of fingerless gloves. A pair of swoop racer's goggles completed the look. The whole effect had him coming off as a common street tough. He added an appropriate disgruntled swagger to his posture. Lastly he stored his gear on his person, removing then replacing one sleeve of the jacket to sling his sword across his shoulder. The ability to hide that one item had to be considered in every disguise, as there were few instances he'd be willing to leave the blade unattended.
Shaking off the somber thoughts, he adopted his hooligan's swagger and trotted out the door to meet Ish and Xhadree.

When they meet up again, she has washed off the assorted smudges and stains from her work. Having left her jacket, tool belt, mechanic's cap and welding goggles back in her room, the only thing giving away her vocation is her tool kit.

The groups leave the hangar bay and find their way out of the spaceport unmolested. As soon as they leave the climate controlled comfort of the Formos spaceport, and set foot on the planet proper, they are instantly struck by the stale and parched atmosphere of Formos. The air is breathable, but desecrated despite the cool climate. Most species begin to feel thirsty shortly after landing on the planet, and those used to life on humid worlds soon feel dehydrated and uncomfortable. You notice that species with an aquatic heritage, such as Aqualish, Mon Calamari, and Herglic, are notably absent from those who make a home here. Thankfully, water sellers are a common sight patrolling the streets and docks, though the prices they advertise would be considered extortionate on most habitable worlds.

As Ish, Xhadree and Darric make their way to the bar (after easily finding directions from a local), a heavily burdened, aging twi'lek lady stops in front of them blocking their way through the road. She had been advertising herself as the cheapest water seller on Formos in a loud raspy voice heard from all the way down the block, but she just stopped and looked directly at Xhadree, saying in a much more quiet, but still quite raspy voice: "Water? I haven't seen you folks here before. I would have remembered a pretty face like that. You remind me of my daughter." Her lekkus and shoulders droop slightly as she says this, "Ah, but that's all history now..." she lets her voice trail off before continuing in a much more rapid speech, giving the distinct impression that she has said this to quite a few people before:"Would you fine benign foreigners care for water? As Darrec, Ish, and Xhadree walked the streets of Formos, Darrec found himself rebutting snark from the Wookiee about his change of disguise.
"Listen, it may seem silly, but if that walking drain clog that greeted us shows up again, the last thing I want is the chance to be caught out regarding that slight omission I made in our passenger manifest. Besides--I like this jacket more than the other one."

Suddenly, as if she sprouted from the salt-ridden ground, an old Twi'lek woman began walking towards them, clearly intending to deliver a sales pitch. Selling water on this saltball? Not a bad racket if you've got to do something.
Before the old lady got within earshot, Darrec whispered to his group"Just keep walking, guys, and if she asks, we're in a hurry." Darrec normally had a soft spot for those down on their luck, but they really were in a hurry. He'd have to make a point to buy a cup or two on their way offworld. Then the old lizardbat starts feeding Xhadree a sob story about her supposed daughter. Darrec didn't know whether his crewmate would take the bait or not, but either way he got the feeling that this woman wasn't about to let them pass without at least a guilt trip.

Horza decides the best opportunity for MC to slice into records of Dobah's dealings would be in the central mainframe of the spaceport. He recalls that while more general dealings, such as transactions of docking and fees are networked and thus can be accessed remotely by a skilled technician, something more specific, such as the location of where said credits were being wired, would be contained only in localized networks. This would obviously be to prevent everyone in the world access to potentially compromising information. In this day and age, it never hurts to be too cautious.

The only hitch, of course, is that every spaceport is just a little different, and generally, access to the central mainframe is very restricted and closely monitored.

Rakaydos

"The first step is to trace the transaction. Darrec's pay stubs are on file, so by checking the recent transactions from his accounts, lets see, transferred to a holding account in the Central mainframe." MC-K01 looked up. "I cannot trace the transaction from here, but I have the account number I need to watch for. Perhaps this means I leave the ship after all?"

Whiskeyjack
2013-10-06, 06:41 PM
Horza sighs. "Unfortunate. Yes, you will have to leave the ship. But what Horza is thinking is...not simple. Sensitive banking information is probably not accessible remotely, that's why you can't trace it from here. It is probably on a hard-wired local network for security. Unfortunately that means our best access point is the spaceport's physical mainframe room." Horza waves as the other team departs. "We should go as well. We need to figure out where that room is on Formos, and how to get in. We might need to shoot our way out so shooting our way in is not the best idea, but...maybe Horza can convince someone that we need access? Not that Horza knows what a good excuse for that would be..." He eyes Syslyth up and down again. "Or if Syslyth and Horza can create a diversion nearby, Emcee can sneak in and get the information?"

"That information is now available on your Datapad."

MC-K01 quickly and easily downloads the blueprints of the spaceport. The central mainframe is located at the top of the spaceport on the 10th floor. Access is gained by a restricted elevator that departs from the central control room, located just underneath it on the ninth floor. Of course, access to the control room is also restricted, but at least the ninth floor has hangers on it, even if they are usually reserved for VIPs. There are also a few ventilation shafts that lead up to the central mainframe, with access on the roof of the building, and a few places scattered on floors 7, 8, and 9. However, these in building access points are located on the ceilings of major hallways, so getting into one without being seen could be a challenge. The ventilation shafts also present a difficult climb up an essentially vertical 3 foot by 3 foot shaft. The outside access port does not require this, but the ventilation holes are much smaller, and a way in would need to be obtained.

"I'm sorry sir, you seem to have accidentally given me a ten credit stick. Here's your change now" She says, rummaging in her bags for a few spares, giving you change in various amounts. "And here's your water. And one extra for the Wookiee, free of charge." She says with a smile, although she still noticeably keeps her distance. "Anyways, it was a pleasure meeting with you folks. I will let you folks move along now. If you are ever in less of a rush and need someone to chat with, just come talk to old Griselda" She points at herself, "that's me. Pleasure making your acquaintances."

<Fear not, dear. If he knows what's good for him, he'll start treating you with some respect. And if he doesn't, you'll leave if you know what's good for you.> She pauses for a moment, before continuing: <and as for Bandin Dobah, the less you know about him the better. I'd steer clear of anything to do with him if I were you> She wraps up the conversation with a friendly motherly nod towards Xhadree, which seems out of place amongst her other conversation.

"Thank you, ma'am." Xhadree starts to look around as inconspiciously as possible. "For everything. The pleasure was ours."

Something seems to worry her ... or am I imagining things?

The look of worry that Xhadree noticed crossing the old lady's face seems to have vanished as quickly as it appeared, and she starts wondering if she was only imagining it. It could have just been that she was struggling under the strain of managing two conversations at the same time; a feat not easily accomplished (although Twi'leks are more apt at it than most).

The old lady waves you guys on happily, and almost as quickly approaches and starts chatting up other spacers who are walking down the busy avenue, yelling her sales pitch: "Water? Cheapest prices you'll find on Formos! Water?" Some pass her by, but it is not long before someone else stops to talk. She seems to do alright.

It's a grueling fifteen minute walk to the cantina. It seems like it should have taken less time, but getting a little lost happens to everyone in a new city. It is especially tiring to Ish, who is not use to such a dry enviroment. Nonetheless, all three members of the party are happy when they finally do make it to a cantina titled plainly: "the Rii Jenks Cantina".

As the three enter the lobby of the cantina, you are aware of a change in atmosphere. The air conditioning alone is almost as refreshing as the beverages served at the well appointed bar promise to be. The cantina is clearly a popular spot for locals to mix, though it isn't so crowed as to make it impossible to get seats. All manner of humans and aliens rub shoulders at the bar, and they even seem happy to let droids in. To your right, a flickering holoscreen displays the rotating head of a tough-looking adult male Aqualish, with scrolling text advertising an Imperial bounty.

The cantina consists of two levels, the main level with the bar, and a circular balcony level above with semi-private booths. The balcony is not too high above the first floor, making the whole arrangement feel more intimate and closed than its size would suggest. To one side of the cantina, the balcony is broken by a raised stage upon which Fia Mung, billed as the Sullustan master of the Kloo Horn, plays his instrument. His playing is essentially free-form jazz incorporating a surprising baka rock influence. It shouldn't really work, but he makes something fresh of it and generally receives an approving response from the audience.

The clientele consists of Humans, Devaronians, Duros, and droids (one of whom is an interpreter droid in employ of the cantina to serve customers who speak different languages). A pair of courting Twi'leks sit in one corner, apparently wrapped up in each other, and a garrulous Toydarian flutters near the bar discussing a dubious business venture with figure dressed in a huge and enveloping red hooded cloak.

Talk in the cantina seems to revolve around fairly mundane matters. Even though Rii Jenks' is considered a haven for smugglers, those in the bar seem hesitant to discuss their illicit business openly.

________

Back on the ship, the droid MC-K01 notices that several of the outbound files are ported through external devices that connect directly to the mainframe, and then wirelessly sent elsewhere within a short range. This means that if the team could gain access to the mainframe room, they could potentially latch hardware on to it that could be exported wirelessly back to their ship. In short, MC would be able to analyze and access data remotely if they could only get into the mainframe room for long enough to connect the device (a few minutes).

MC also takes notes of security measures, and it’s pretty basic, with cameras on each level that, due to either laziness or miserly commissioners, have several large blind spots. There are a few guards scattered about the spaceport, but they’re not on strict patrol and tend to alternate between sitting in the security room located on the 8th floor (which seems to be where all the cameras are wired to), and aimlessly wandering the halls. Despite this, the area around the mainframe room is much more strictly watched; the cameras don’t have blindspots, and there is a pair of guards who are always stationed there. There also seems to be an archaic security lockdown system in place, but it’s so old and the coding is so dated that it is hard to say if it still works, or what would happen if it were activated.

However, before MC can communicate any of his findings to the party, the silence is noticeably broken by the sound of clanking footsteps clambering up the ship’s extended ramp.

Once inside the cantina, Ish breaths a loud sigh of relief, patting at parts of his fur where he can feel sweat underneath. His first instinct is to cast a glance around the bar for potential threats; second is to go inspect that floating Aqualish head, though not too closely - he has a feeling it might be their mark but doesn't want to show the whole cantina he's interested in it.

That done, he returns to Darric and Xhadree, motioning them towards a booth that would provide easy viewing and access to most of the cantina, without leaving Ish's back to the door in case trouble walks in. <After that bit, I'll take a double accarrgm, with lots of ice on the side. Hm wonder if they have a menu here...> he thinks aloud, sliding into the booth.

"And what will the lady be drinking tonight?" Darrec asked Xhadree as they made their way toward the booth. "I don't mind handing in our order. It'll give me a chance to see what I can dig up as well. Barkeeps are a notoriously well informed profession." Then, as an afterthought, "You know, Ish, accarrgm is one of the few exotic spirits I haven't had the chance to try. If they have it, I might grab a glass myself. On second thought, if it's made for Wookiees, I might be better off with something Corellian."

Her gaze following the old Twi'lek for a few moments, Xhadree shrugs. Guess it was my imagination ... oh well. Joining the banter her companions are exchanging, she turns on Darrec, fighting a grin. "How can you say such things? You can be such an insensitive lout! Many girls would kill for such wonderful hair! ... Not that I would, don't you worry, Ish." Xhadree grants him a radiant smile.

Falling into step with the young Human and the Wookiee, she lowers her voice. "As for 'falling' for her 'daughter' story ... I really shouldn't have." The young mechanic smiles sweetly at Darrec, flicking a lekku behind her back. "I mean, she only told me that 'Bandin and his thugs are so present', and that - while she fears the Empire more - 'the less I know about Bandin, the better for me'. She also strongly advised me to steer clear of anything to do with him."

Xhadree shrugs. "My attempt at deflecting her question whether we are new on Formos didn't work out so well. I'm no expert at on-the-spur cover stories, that slave thing was the only thing that came to mind quickly enough. Thought it would be inconspicious enough on a planet like this. Oh well - it fell to pieces shortly afterwards anyway. Almost as if someone poked a hole into it ..." As if to emphasize her words, she pokes her tongue out at Darrec. "Who knows what other information I could have teased out of her?"

She laughs quietly. "Probably not that much, actually. For a moment, she almost seemed to become a bit nervous in the end - I could have imagined that, though."

* * * * *

When the small group enters the Rii Jenks Cantina, an unconscious, joyful smile starts to curve Xhadree's lips. Her purple eyes lit up, she starts to look around the cantina in only half-veiled curiosity. While walking over to the booth Isshliakazza had indicated, unconsciously swaying along with the Sullustan's music, the young mechanic tries to spot new aliens. A vermillion-feathered Calibop, the prehensile wingtips wrapped around a mug and apparently deeply lost in thought, especially catches her interest. Every now and then, the curious Twi'lek sneaks a fascinated peek at the avian creature.

"And what will the lady be drinking tonight?"

Caught off guard by Darrec's question, Xhadree quickly turns her attention to her friends. "Uh ... a Koruan Stout, please." She smiles, somewhat embarrassed maybe, then lets her eyes wander the cantina again. "I always spot aliens I've never seen before in such places ... wonder if that'll ever end," she muses softly, a touch of awe in her voice.

<There's probably more kinds of alien out there than we'll ever know. You know, before I left home I didn't even think there was more than Wookiees, Trandoshans, and humans! I bet you'll see something even newer and weirder at the next stop, if it's a bigger port than this place.> The Wookiee pauses a moment, looking across the crowd again before he leans in towards the Twi'lek. <So, what do you think the plan is? If this guy is such a big, bad deal I doubt the local drunks are going to want to talk bad about him openly to offworlders,> he mutters to Xhadree.

As soon as Horza speaks, he hears footsteps rapidly retreat back the way they came. He is just in time to see a vague green head bolt off the ship and clank down the stairs.

It is not long before the party is greeted by a young and lively Zabrak waitress. She's fairly attractive, although not exceedingly so, and she's wearing black pants and a red shirt that says "Rii Jenk's" on it. She comes up and says: "Hello, my name is Trizka and I will be your server tonight. What can I get for you?" Everything is said with crisp efficiency, and she smiles at the party with a nice, but obviously rehearsed smile.

Syslyth fires off a round at the same time as Horza, and although his misses wildly, luckily he did remember to set it on stun, so it causes minimal damage to the hangar. Regardless, the Rodian hits the ground with the shot from Horza, and he is currently unconscious and face down in the middle of a hangar.

The Zabrak chuckles slightly at the Wookiee's barrage of questions, and smiles sweetly at Ish "Of course I can understand you, silly, why do you think I was assigned to this table?". She takes Darrec's order, and winks at Ish as a response to his jive. "Is that true honey? I'm flattered. Although it's really your pretty young companion that you should be looking at", she smiles sweetly, "And we have menus, but we normally have most drinks people have, so we don't give them out right away. Here's a food menu. Can I start you two off with drinks?"

Also, as Darrec pulled a credit stick out to give to Xhadree, he notices he is missing a 50 credit stick he was sure he had when he left.

The blue-green Duros bartender looks at Darrec for a second, obviously looks around for a second, and says, oddly stiffly for a bartender: ""Shhh. Are you crazy? Listen, you ought to not assume I know anything about that just because I live here. I can see you're new here, just get a drink and relax. Enjoy the music. And just go look at the thing if you're so darn curious." He eyes Darrec for a moment longer, and then says "Now, friend, can I get you a drink?" now in a fairly typical fashion for a bartender, as if nothing had just happened.

"The office of Moruth Doole, administrator of the spice mines of Kessel, is offering a 10,000 credit reward to the killing or capture of the Aqualish pirate Bandin Dobah. <Ahhhh, sorry,> Ish barks sheepishly. <I don't meet many people who speak Shryiiwook, so...> Ish takes the food menu from her gently as a change of subject, looking back at Xhadree and to the waitress again, with her comment about the "pretty friend." <You mean....no, that's....that's just business!> he laughs nervously, looking at Xhadree. <I'll take a double accarrgm, if you have it.>

He glances back over at the Aqualish hologram across the room and lowers his voice before the Zabrak can depart. <So, Trizka, what's the deal with that guy?> he makes a small motion at the hologram. <Just curious, I just haven't seen many blatantly posted government bounties out on the Rim like that. Must be a big deal, huh?>

"Tch. Sor-ry pal." Darrec replies to the bartender. "Ain't like we can talk about the weather." The barkeep's too spooked to say anything. That should tell us something, Darrec thought. Time to do a bit of wandering. He makes a lap or two around the bar, making small talk with anyone who'll listen, slipping seemingly innocuous questions here and there to try to goad people into talking. That's the trick. Act like you're looking for work and see if anyone complains about a certain someone's goons muscling in. Offer a drink to the swaggering tough guy and see if he brags about his boss. Once you get them talking, just keep the momentum going. That's how you get the juicy stuff.

He passes by the holoportrait. Ten thousand, and they don't even want him alive? Probably too good to be true, considering the source. Still, might as well let the boss-man know when we run into him again.

If all else fails, though, Darrec thought, there's always one weasel willing to flap their gums for a few credits. A good information dealer ought to fill in any gaps the crowd couldn't.

Horza gives Syslyth a sideways look and shakes his head slightly. "We've been out of real action too long, maybe," he says, giving the Trandoshan a pat on the shoulder - and stretching up to do so. "Let's drag this one inside and---" he glances at MC-K01. "Oh? Good eye, Emcee. Get a plank ready for this one. Will you have trouble treating him if he has restraints on? Horza doesn't want to take any chances..."

Horza keeps his blaster out as he crosses the hangar to the fallen Rodian, giving his back a quick pat-down for any weapons on his person with the gun still pointed at him, just in case. Horza unceremoniously flips the Rodian over and checks his front for anything as well. Certain that he's unconscious, the Gand finally holsters his blaster. "Syslyth, could you..." he breaks off, motioning at the Rodian and back at the Mist Nexus.

Not sure if I need a check to search him for weapons or...anything on his person, really. Just let me know.

The Rodian is only wearing light clothing, despite his apparently dangerous profession, and his only weapon is a holdout blaster shoddily hidden on his hip. In his wallet you find an identification card with the name "Vreebo Gango" on it, a small pouch of glitterstim and 15 credits. As Syslyth waits for you to finish searching him, he notices a Yuzzum flanked by two Rodians strolling into the hangar. It doesn't take much deduction for him to realize that this is the very same Yuzzum that was giving them problems earlier. He taps Horza on the shoulder, hissing: "We have company"

<So, what do you think the plan is? If this guy is such a big, bad deal I doubt the local drunks are going to want to talk bad about him openly to offworlders.>

Xhadree rubs her chin thoughtfully, but before she can answer, the waitress steps up to the table. Following the ensuing exchange with a grin that becomes harder and harder to hide, she finally joins the Zabrak's chuckle. "That's the advantage of being a Wookiee - no one can see you blush!" Amicably poking Ish with her elbow, she adds her order to that of her friends. "I'd like a Koruan Stout, please."

At the Wookiee's gesture, she glances over at the bounty holo for a moment, then returns her attention to the table. Picking the food menu out of her friend's paw, she pretends to be more interested in the food than the bounty - looking at Trizka too expectantly might endanger the casualness of Ish's query.

Severance28
2013-10-16, 07:52 PM
Openly grinning now, Trizka takes a note of Xhadree's order with quick precision. On hearing Ish's question, her smile fades, and she pauses for a second, before leaning in towards the Wookiee and lowering her voice enough that Xhadree has some trouble following what she says. "I think a lot of the heftiness of the bounty - it's several thousand I believe - is due to the fact that Dobah, since he's been running the place around here, has been interfering with the normal Hutt trade. Now, you didn't hear this from me, but that causes a big problem for the empire, because a lot of their income from the outer rim comes from Hutts cutting deals with them to ignore their shipments. Interfere with the Hutt's trade around here, and the Empire is sure to take notice." She smiles and strokes Ish's fur gently as she stands back up and says in a tone of finality: "And that's enough of that. I have one Corellian Ale, one double Accarrgm, and one Koruan Stout. I'll let you guys mull over the food options and I will be back with your drinks. Feel free to pull me over if you need anything else." With that, she turns and walks towards the bar to place the order for the drinks.

The food menu is pretty basic, but it's inexpensive and it seems filling. There are a few kinds of steaks, a burger option, a salad, as well as more classic bar food such as nuts and salted baked goods. Most of the meats are unrecognized to the pair, but that is usually the case in the life of an interstellar traveler; the food is generally taken from the local wildlife on the outer rim. It's okay, anyone who has been traveling for any length of time is used to it.

_____

After some more searching and chatting with various locals, Darrec is approached by a Devaronian. He is slightly overweight, and walks with a slight limp, probably a side-effect of his trade. He taps Darrec on the shoulder and says: "Come w'me, son. I'll explain some things to ya.". Without any further introduction, he starts hobble-walking over to the stairwell that leads to second floor.

Horza swallows, but his hand drops down to his blaster as his mind looks for a way to resolve this. "Follow my lead," he mutters to Syslyth before turning to the approaching group, his hand on his blaster.

"Hey, Yuzzum, are you with port security? Or friends with this guy tryin' to stow away on ships that don't belong to him?" he nudges the unconscious Rodian with his boot.

<The Empire's offering ten for Dobah,> Ish mutters quietly to Xhadree. <The Hutt's just giving five. Might change things a little...but more work for the Hutt is probably safer than for the Moff, even if they're in it for the same reasons: screwing over people like us.>

He opens the menu, looking through the options, his stomach growling slightly. When he looks up to check on Darrec, he sees the human approached by a Devaronian who then turns away. <Gonna have a word with Darrec, back in a flash,> he says to Xhadree, putting the menu down and lurching towards the bar. <That guy looks like he wants you to follow him. Want me to come with you?> he says quietly once he's next to the human.

"Ish, I appreciate the sentiment, but I think I can handle one overstuffed Devaronian." Darrec whispered to his companion. "Besides, I did a lot of snooping to find this guy. Don't want to scare him off. Still, keep an eye out and stay within charging distance. I know how sour these things can go. If you see my blasters come out, back me up. And if you see my blade come out..." he paused, a rare serious expression crossing his face "The hornhead's the one who'll need backup." Then, returning to his usual jovial self "I always wanted to say something like that. Should I start a fight on purpose so you can show off for that waitress, or do you already have her holomail address?" With that, Darrec walked off toward the Devaronian, tossing a devious smirk over his shoulder at the Wookiee.

Approaching this suddenly helpful barfly, Darrec leaned casually against the wall of the stairwell. "So I take it you're the uh, 'local tour guide' huh?" Darrec said to the man somewhat nonchalantly. "Eh. I could stand to be better informed on current events." Casting his eyes toward to bar and by extension the holoportrait, he continued. "So this Dobah character. I hear he's pretty popular these days. Lot of angry people throwin' money around trying to get at him. Anybody been trying to catch some of those credits?" Darrec hoped that if he could catch the trail of an actual pro after their target, the crew could follow them to the prize.

The Wookie simply waves his paw. <Just holler,> is his response as he walks back to the table.

<Darrec's either about to get plenty of info or do something really stupid,> Ish casually informs Xhadree, looking over the menu again. <If he's paying, I think I'll have a steak.>

"Yeah, I'm getting a bad feeling about that," the mechanic agrees, her blue lekku subtly fidgeting with worry. "Oh well, if he doesn't want you along, all we can do is keep an ear out for trouble. And eat a hole into his wallet - whatever a Choyrev is, I'll have its steak."

While pretending to peer into the menu in Ish's paws, she quickly unholsters and checks her DH-23 under the table, setting it to stun before loosely returning it to the holster. One never knows ...

Remembering Isshliakazza's earlier comment, Xhadree lowers her voice again. "As for the bounties, a two-timer can be an opportunity. We may be able to cash in on both bounties if we play it smart. Or do both parties want him alive?" Quizzically, her purple eyes meet the Wookiee's green gaze.

<I'm keeping an eye out,> Ish remarks, clearly peering at the menu. He gives her a smile. <I doubt anyone's going to keep committed to hurting Darrec when they see an axe-wielding Wookiee charging at them. They they can start shooting me instead!> he barks a laugh.

Deciding on food, Ish leans in closer to Xhadree. <A two-timer? You mean turn him in for both? I think the Hutt wanted him alive,> Ish pantomimes a shudder that is only half faked - it's not wise to upset a Wookiee but there's really no proper term for how unwise it is to upset a Hutt. <Imp bounty is dead or alive. Trizka said the Hutts and Imps are in cahoots with bringing stuff from out here further in to the rich sectors. Mess with Hutt trade, mess with Imp stuff, and Dobah's been messing with Hutt trade. I'd like to believe that Moff just wants to make his sector a nicer place, but you know how that goes!> This time his laugh is slightly forced, and he looks around for anyone taking too close of notice of their conversation. <But fifteen? That'd be a real nice haul, but how would we go about that? Cut off his arm or something and give that to the Imps as proof of death?>

Minstrel Wyrm
2013-10-17, 01:26 PM
Xhadree chuckles. "They'll probably start shooting innocent doors, lamps, and ceilings rather than you. There's something nerve-fraying about charging Wookiees, or so I've heard ..." She winks at Ish.

"And yes," she continues, her voice quieter again. "If at least one party wants an acquisition dead, it often just takes some negotiation to cash in on both bounties. I mean, we could offer him to Thakba first, on the condition that we get something indisputable to prove the acquisition's death to the Imperials when he's finished with him." The mechanic shudders a bit. "Not sure about body parts ... that gruesome touch appeals more to Hutts, I think. And one can survive a lost arm, so it wouldn't even be proof enough. Ugh."

Isshliakazza shrugs. <The Captain and Darrec can talk to Thakba about that. If you have any ideas about how to convince the Hutt how it profits him, I'd like to hear it. I bet the Moff will just shoot him once the Imps have him, so probably cash in with the Hutt first.> The Wookiee glances over at his vibro-ax, propped against the wall. <How bad is it if I hope there's some action today? I mean, things going off without a hitch is great and all, but I don't want to get out of practice.>

Syslith hisses slightly in disgust: "While I appreciate the need for subtly, it would be much simpler just to put plasma in their chests". It's pretty easy to tell he's still smarting from his recent horrible marksmanship.

The Yuzzum approaches and puts on a sideways grin. "I'm here as port security yes. And he's a stowaway, you say? No matter, we'll take it from here." He casually gestures towards the body, and the Rodians take this as an invitation to start walking towards it to try and pick it up. "This your ship?" he continues with an air of calm, "Did you just come in? I don't remember checking in with you."

Back at the bar, the chubby Devaronian chuckles deeply at Darrec's barrage of questions, and then says "Yeh, I ken help ya with some knowledge. Tha oonly thing I be wondering is if yer one of them that's throwing money to get at him.", he says, chuckling slightly but also eying Darrec intently. "My price is 50 credits, take et or leave et. It is a rather good place to be on the prowl for information buyers; it's far enough away from the rest of the tables to avoid being out of earshot, but it has a clear vantage point of the rest of the bar, perfect for visually picking out who's asking around.

"Well, we'd simply have to tell Thak-" Noticing the young Zabrak's approach, Xhadree smoothly switches topics. "Oh, look! Your belly's saved, Ish!" She welcomes Trizka with a broad grin, and the glass with the reddish dark brew with an eager hand.

"Don't you dare leave me alone with a starving Wookiee, Trizka!" The Twi'lek pretends to be aghast at the waitress' question, then laughs. "I'd like the Choyrev steak, with the usual side dish. And he wants a Wookiee-sized steak, but I don't yet know which one," she adds, nodding toward Isshliakazza.

Looking in the direction of Darrec, Xhadree taps her chin thoughtfully, then comes to a decision. "We better order something for our friend as well. Maybe he'll be back in time to eat it. ... Otherwise, he surely won't mind if you save it from getting cold, Ish." A mischievous grin parts purple lips. "Which meal would he like, do you think?"

When she catches sight of Darrec typing something, she leans back and begins to dig out her own datapad. "Make it a good choice, Ish, I'll just quickly check for mails."

"Be ready to, Horza doesn't intend to just let them take this guy without us talking to him first," he mutters to Syslyth. "If it looks bad, feel free to, um, intervene, but that's not very low-profile to start."

The Gand straightens up and looks at the approaching Rodians, shaking his head as he steps forward towards them. "So much for government security on Formos," he chuckles. "If Captain hadn't hired us to watch his ship, who knows what might happen. Steal cargo, try to stow away and maybe steal ship, if not something worse!"

Horza motions to himself and the Trandoshan as he addresses the Yuzzum, his stomach turning slightly, and not just from the creature's smile.

Only one real chance to do this, and so Horza has to get it right. He focuses for a moment and, as he does on some of those life-or-death occasions when the Gand needs to talk his way out of a firefight, he recalls and implements one of the tricks he picked up so long ago.

"What do you mean 'checked in?' We walked over. This isn't Gand's ship. We're private security consultants. Captain booked Gand, Trandoshan, in advance of arrival. We came to see him once he landed and called us. Seems like a good idea too, now that this has happened!" Horza says. "Captain will want to talk to this one," he nudges the Rodian with his boot. "Snooping around the hangar, snooping near someone else's ship without permission. Captain will want to know why his ship." He points at the Mist Nexus and gives the unconscious Rodian another nudge for good measure, then gives the Yuzzum his best approximation of a smile.

"Look, Mister Yuzzum, Gand knows you're just trying to do your job, sorry for snapping. But you know as well as Gand, how the rivalries between captains and cargo haulers can go. It's a big game, this guy just happened to be working for someone who thought Captain wouldn't protect his ship, and now here he is. Ship's captain is going to want to talk to him. Gand will release this one to port authorities once Captain says so, right after Captain talks to him. Sound good? We'll even patch him up for you, save you the cost of a stimpack."

Shutting down the datapad again, she looks up at Trizka and Ish. "I knew it! Sys reconsidered and hopes to make it, though a bit later. Trizka, I guess we should wait with our orders a little. We'll let you know when we're ready, okay?" she asks the waitress a warm smile.

If she was feeling any confusion, the waitress hides it with a smile and says"Of course! Let me know when you're ready to place your order, and enjoy those dr..." She suddenly trails off, as most of the rest of the Cantina goers lose their composure...

___________

While Darrec is waiting for the others at the bar, he notices an elegant Rodian girl enter the establishment, heading directly for the bar. She draws appreciative glances from a few patron of the cantina as she enters. She is wearing a loose blouse made from green satin with polished brass accessories, and a telltale bulge on the right side of her shirt suggests she's packing heat. She walks up to the bar right next to Darrec, and although she gives him a cursory nod, pays him no other attention as she hails the bartender.

A few seconds after she gets her drink, three men saunter into the bar. Two of them are Human and the third is a Weequay. The three are all look like grizzled thugs who bare themselves with swaggering arrogance. A general hush falls over the patrons of the cantina. Even the Fia Mund, the Kloo horn specialist, hits a few faltering notes before regaining his composure. The leader of the gang is one of the Humans; he has unkempt black hair with a few days of stubble growing on his face. He's wearing a dirt beige flight suit and a holstered blaster pistol on each hip. Each of the three members are packing: the other human, shod in neatly tailored black, is wearing a large blaster pistol on his hip. The Weequay's size is intimidating enough, but he also has a deadly looking vibroknife strapped to his thigh.

The three approach the bar next to the Rodian girl, and the head thug, after making an appreciative leer sidles up to her. "Well you don't see many pretty Rodian girls in these parts of the galaxy. What're you drinking, baby? Hey! Bartender!" He says, snapping obnoxiously, "Let's get her another round over here.". The poor girl is clearly uncomfortable, but only shyly says an almost impossible to make out rejection in Rodian. The guy doesn't seem to be taking a hint.

___

"Sorry," Trizka says, regaining her composure after a few seconds although failing to return the pretty smile to her face that the group has gotten so accustom to, "Uhm, enjoy your drinks. I'll be around." And she walks off to wait on other tables.

_____

The Yuzzum buys into it hook, line, and sinker. Horza isn't sure if it his special techniques, or just plain awesome rhetoric, but the furry thing in front of him is clearly believing every word. Even Syslyth is amazed at how convincing Horza is; he just has to stand there. The Yuzzum calls off the Rodians"Hey, alright, let's give the captain the space to know why this little fella was going on his ship." Addressing Horza, he seems very friendly and apologetic, and slightly lost for words: "Sorry about the suspicion, just doin' my job. Here's my holo number. Just ring through directly when you're done with him and want to hand him over to the authorities." He pauses for a moment more, as if forgetting something, but shrugs it off and starts walking out of the hangar, muttering something akin to 'have a good day'.

Syslyth nods. "Impressive work, friend." Not being one much for words, he simply picks up the unconscious Rodian and carries him back to the ship.

I can't say I've ever been one for Rodians, Darrec thinks, but I might be willing to make an exception here. He answers her nod with one of his own, adding a half wave to cue her in that he noticed. With any luck, he might have a dinner date planned before they left this rock. The key here is to be more subtle than the typical barfly. Besides, I've got work to do.
Darrec was fully prepared to leave any thoughts of the woman till later. Then those three laserbrained thugs walked in. By the crowd's reaction, they must be bad news around here. Then the leader starts bellowing in the direction of the Rodian. Darrec tried to remain fixed on his datapad, waiting for a response from Ish and Xhadree, but the more those insufferable gundarks pressed in around the woman, the more irritated Darrec became. Even with Ish and Xhadree as possible backup, he didn't want to start a fight here. Still, he had to do something.
<Hold that thought guys.> he messaged back to his crewmates <I'm feeling a bit chivalrous>

Quickly typing out another message, but not sending it, Darrec tapped the nervous Rodian on the shoulder. "About time you got here, miss!" he said to her "You are the one that wanted an estimate on these ship parts, right?" With that, he held the datapad in front of the lady, taking care to keep the screen hidden from the jerk in the flight suit.

<I'll deal with this buffoon, madam. Follow my lead.>

"Thank you for your understanding," Horza says, taking the holo number. "Gand will be in touch after Captain gets back and can talk to this guy. Thanks again." He turns away once that party seems to be departing.

"Thanks, Syslyth," is Horza's response as the Trandoshan lugs their prisoner onto the ship. "And just to be safe..." Horza flicks the control to raise the loading ramp to the Mist Nexus once he's back aboard. "We don't need any more uninvited guests..."

The Gand then fastens restraints around the Rodian's hands--behind his back--and searches him again, keeping the holdout blaster and other information well away from their prisoner. "Feel free to tend to him, Emcee, but don't do any procedures that cost too much. Horza is going to get in touch with the others about this."

...til they start hassling the lady next to Darrec, and til Darrec decides he absolutely must involve himself.

<If he thinks he gets to have all the fun, he has another thing coming,> Ish mutters to Xhadree. <You, however, should keep your head down when things go south.> Ish gives her a wink and stretches slightly, pairing that movement with the motion of removing his satchel and leaving it on the bench between himself and Xhadee. At the same time, he gets his hand around his axe - casually, as if to prevent knocking it over from his stretch. When all's said and done, he takes another sip of drink but leaves his hand on the weapon's shaft.

Xhadree especially keeps an eye out for noteworthy reactions among the crowd. How they react to the three thugs in general, and whether anyone's getting ready to assist them in the following minutes ...

The Rodian, with a little help from MC-K01, is healed back to the realm of barely conscious. "Whaa... What... happen?" He says in broken Basic, the effects of the stun rays still heavy in his mind.

______

The Rodian woman smiles at Darrec, a vague recognition forming in her slightly glistening eyes. She responds to Darrec in Rodian "Uhh, yes, thank you for getting here so quickly. I need... an estimate" She says lamely, clearly not used to lying on her feet.

Luckily, it doesn't seem like the scum harassing her understands Rodian, and he's clearly not interested in anything Darrec has to say: "Hey baby," he says, "Stop speaking all quiet and doey-eyed to this runt here. He your boyfriend? I feel bad for you, getting a shrimp like him. Why don't you come over here and see what a real man is like." Without waiting for a response, he moves and puts his arm around her, locking her in place with a hold that he must be mistaking for affection, meanwhile offering a superior leer at Darrec. "Better run on, runt," he says, "Unless you wanna come over here and see what a real man is like." Through the thug's redundant elocution, the poor Rodian girl seems more and more worried, and the two other cronies are just sitting back and watching. They seem used to their boss's shenanigans, even if it's unclear whether they're enjoying them or not.

1 advantage isn't getting you very far. Xhadree notices that most of the bar is carefully watching what's going on with Darrec, the Rodian, and the thug, and while there do seem to be some people upset with the proceedings, there are also a few that seem to just view it as entertainment. It's hard to say whether anyone in the crowd will try and intervene.

This trumpeting gundark is asking for it, thought Darrec, feeling his eye twitch in frustration. Still, best to play it cool. I don't want to pull any weapons while the lady's in harms way. "Listen, buddy. I got a job to do. I got business to talk with this lady about some starship parts. If she still wants to come back and talk to ya after that, well there's no accounting for taste I guess."

Then, Darrec called to the booth where his crewmates were seated. "Hey Ish! Found that customer we were looking for! Mind givin' me a hand here?"

Turning back to the Rodain girl, Darrec's face softened. "No worries ma'am. Ish'll bring you over to talk to my mechanic, Xhadree. See the booth over there with the blue Twi'lek girl and the Wookiee?" He pointed to his seated crewmates. "The Twi'lek is my mechanic, she'll take care of ya." Then turning back to the meathead that couldn't take a hint, and making his expression as stern as possible. "The Wookiee with the vibro-axe is my pal Ish."
Ish cuts a fairly intimidating figure, thought Darrec. Hopefully that will get through this meathead's thick skull before Ish's axe has to--or something else, he added to himself, loosening up his arm that he might quickly pull his pistol.

The thug eyes Darrec for a moment, contemplating whether he wants to start something. He stands unmoving, with his arm still gripped tightly over the Rodian girl. When the Wookiee over, this changes fast. He doesn't understand the Wookie-speak, but that doesn't stop him from getting the message. He doesn't do anything immediately, but his whole demeanor changes; he isn't picking a fight with the seven foot tall hulk that's standing in front of him. He doesn't try to let the others see that though: he stands there for a second longer, and then releases the girl with a hefty scowl. "Ah, whatever, it ain't worth my time anyway." He says, and turns to leave. After getting a few paces off, he stops and turns around to get one more jibe at Darrec, apparently braver by the distance he has from the Wookie: "I let you off easy, but you'd better watch who you're offending around here, runt.". He skulks out of the bar, motioning for his cronies to follow. They both sight slightly and finish the rest of their drinks in one go, although the thug doesn't notice.

The girl thanks Ish and Darrec in Rodian: "Thanks for dealing with him. If there is some way I can repay you I would be happy to do you a favor. I have some money; how about some food and drinks on me?"

____

Back on the ship, the Rodian struggles slightly against his constraints, to no avail: "Hey. HEY!" He yells at Syslyth, who has been quietly observing him to make sure he doesn't escape while Horza is on the holo. Syslyth doesn't answer, so the bug tries his luck again. "HEY! What's the big idea tying me down here? Get me out of this thing, alright? I wasn't doing nothing. I swear. I had the wrong ship. Come on, let me out. Hey!!!" Syslyth sighs; this was irritating his ears. He upholsters his blaster pistol that's been resting on his hip, and sticks it in the Rodian's gaping mouth. He still doesn't say anything, but the meaning is clear: Shut up. The Rodian gets the message.

Darrec maintained his macho facade until the thugs exited the bar. Too close, he thought. He breathed a sigh of relief, joking, "Blasted swine. I've met Gamorreans with better manners--and better hygiene." as he turned again to face the Rodian, making a showy dismissive gesture in response to her offer. "Miss, your thanks are enough for me. In fact, I'm already buying for my friends here today. Why don't you join them?" Hopefully they hadn't already emptied that credstick he left on the table.
"Ish, escort the lady to our booth and tell Xhadree you two have another guest for dinner." Then, returning his attention to the Rodian woman, "My friends will take good care of you, I promise. I, unfortunately, have other business to attend to. I hope I get back in time to have a few words with you. I'd advise sitting next to Xhadree though. I wouldn't want Ish's favorite waitress to get jealous."
Before leaving to speak with the Devaronian, Darrec reached into his satchel, and with a flick of his wrist produced a flimsiplast card made in the style of those used in sabaac, but with a false name and holomail address on it, albeit this address one he reserved for people he wanted to talk to again.
"My card", he said, presenting it to the Rodian. "In truth, Xhadree's our only actual mechanic, but my crewmates and I have been known to take the occasional 'odd job', should you ever again be in need, Miss...come to think of it, I never got your name."

"No problem" Horza says slowly, noting the yelling from another component before disconnecting. The Gand shakes his head. "Horza thinks they're in it now," he mutters, walking back down the hallway to find Syslyth with his blaster in the Rodian's mouth. "Now now, that's no way to treat a guest," Horza chides the Trandoshan, taking a blue liquid from a compartment and filling three small plastic cups with it. He takes a seat where the Rodian can see him.

"We can do this the easy way or the hard way," Horza begins, "Of course Gand's friend there would prefer the hard way," he motions at Syslyth, still pushing the blaster into the Rodian's mouth. Back on the ship, Syslyth hesitates for a moment, and then pulls the blaster out of the Rodian's mouth and holstering it. "As you say, captain".

It might just be the tabac smoke in here, but I detect the distinct odor of a trap. Oh, and our new friend Zukata extends her thanks for your assistance. And here I thought I was a ladykiller." Darrec chuckles, patting Ish on the arm. Feeling for the first time just how strong Ish is, Darrec retracts his hand nervously and pulls out his datapad. He updates Xhadree and Horza on the situation via message, then uses the pad's holocam to take an image of himself, adding a few notes to the image before saving it in his personal files.

The Rodian girl walks over to sit down with Xhadree. "Hello," she says tentatively, "My name is Zukuta". She pauses for a second before continuing. "I... It's nice of your friends to help a girl they don't even know. I wish more people were like that this far away from home. I..." The poor girl is unknowingly interrupted by Trizka, coming back to check on the table: "Hey! Is this the friend you were talking about? What did you call her? Syylsh? Syth? Or that Yuzzum seemed interested in dealing with a sneak or stowaway aboard a lawfully-berthed ship. Or...well, who knows, all depends what you know, friend." Horza takes another sip of his drink. "Gand doesn't think much about what happens to not-friends." A long sip.

"Don't worry, I won't tell anybody if you don't!" Xhadree's laughing comment follows the young Zabrak.

After Trizka is out of earshot, the mechanic turns back to the Rodian out of distress. "You were saying?" Xhadree leans back in her seat, one lekku draped over her shoulder. "And you can cut the Peckva doe act, sister, there are no males around to impress." She winks at Zukura, and again there's a subtle lack of warmth to the expression that only close friends might pick up.

Still turned away from the Devaronian, Darrec cracks a grin. That bit always works.

Darrec doesn't return to his seat, but leans on the table on one hand.
"Can't blame me for trying. Have to say I find myself enjoying negotiation a lot more than whatever I get out of it most of the time, but as a fellow man of wit, I bet you understand that all too well."
Darrec produces 50 credits from his satchel.
"Now, who's been on Dobah's trail lately, my friend," he asked, setting 25 credits on the table "and who were those three lunkheads that came in here earlier?" he continued, setting the other 25 next to it.

The small Rodian girl flashes Xhadree a winning smile (well, the rodian equivalent) that's impossible to tell whether it penetrates through her black eyes, while managing to look confused at the same time. "Peckva? I can't say I've ever been to Maryo, although I hear it's quite beautiful." She sighs slightly and tilts her head: "can you imagine it? A good long week of recreation, uninterrupted by stress or idle tasks. It would do you some good too, Xaydree," she says, "your lifestyle isn't doing your beautiful features any favors, you know."

_________

The Devaronian grins as Darrec slides over the credit chip, hungrily grabbing for it before regaining his composure. "Now that'n be more like it. Thar was a young Rodian chap come here a few days back. Came in here, much like you folks, stirrin' up trouble and makin' waves, then he went off. Ain't nobody heard from him since." He smiles, leans back, and takes a long drag of his toxic-looking drink. "Ye'd be the only other people snoopin' lookin' for him. Don't mean there ain't others. Just mean their heads er lower. That be one.", he says, putting one finger up to emphasize. "Those three low-life nerf herders be Daro Blunt - thas the main scab - and is two foller's, Gut n' Spir. They ain't mean too much; Daro comes in with different cronies every week. Figure they git sick of em. The three o them belong in Dobah's crew immself. Daro is something of an important figure amongst that, but I don't know what exactly his job description is. He just always in here bragging and the like bout how important he thinks 'e is. If I ad to guess, I'd say e's some sort of manager, doin' the dirty, work while Dobah rakes in the dough, but I said I ain't doing speculation." He nods, leaning back again, finishing his drink. He holds up another finger:"That's two. And I'll give you a third question, on the house to speak. Whaddle it be?"

"So let's say I wanted to pay this Daro a 'friendly' visit." remarked Darrec. "Where's he holed up around here? Not that I heard any of this from you, of course."
Darrec nodded knowingly in the Devaronian's direction.

It's now or never, thought Darrec. "Ish--" he said to his wookiee crewmate. "I've got things handled from here, I think. Why don't you head back down and see how our friends are doing? I'm sure they've gone and ordered you a half ton bantha steak on my credits by now."

So she has some fight in her, huh? Xhadree's smile doesn't waver. "Lucky me that my looks don't need any favours, then. But speaking of stress interrupting idleness, I am curious: How come that a Rodian has such trouble to defend herself against an unwanted suitor?" She cants her head.

"You're descended from hunters, not prey, after all. Maybe there can be harmless Rodians who aren't walking Tough Rodian Fighter clichés - heck, I'd even respect that - but when it comes to an armed Rodian, I do have trouble to believe it. Yeah, I noticed your blaster." Xhadree quirks an eyebrow at Zukuta. "So, why play meek at the bar?"

"Mean guy, two pistols. Was he human? Or what species?" Horza produces the Rodian's wallet and starts looking through it as he keeps talking. The Devaronian drops his hands in a futile gesture: "Ah, me friend, that I kent help ya with. If ah had to guess it'd be somewhere down by the port, but I said I don't deal wit speculatin'" He shakes his head: "it's the same as I told that Rodian come in here a few days back: I don't know. 'E went off lookin' anyway, and look where that got im." He leans forward slightly, lowering his voice: "If I were you, I'd be leavin' and ain't coming back. Yeeve already made a wave with ol' Daro. Soon that'll be going up the line, and they'll be gunning for you. Mark me words; they don't let even small grievances be going unrequited.

The Rodian purses her lips, and cants her head in the same fashion Xhadree just did: "Just because I carry a weapon doesn't necessarily mean I must be a trope of hostility. Nor a trope of my species, for that matter. How often do you get asked if you're a stripper, or 'love-slave', as some so endearingly call them? I am not here to stereotype you. I'd prefer if you did not do the same." She pauses, slowly returning her head to the normal position. "Besides, dear, sometimes things work out better without violence. You should know that, coming from a long line of passivity."

Darrec had a feeling he should make this quick. No sense letting a trail go cold for his personal paranoia.
"I appreciate you help, friend. Just one more thing." Darrec slid another 50 across the table, along with a card similar to the one he handed the Rodian girl.
"You catch wind of a green Twi'lek named Chabanna or anyone connected to a 'House Vendaar' snooping around here, I wanna be the first to know. My holomail's on that card."
Darrec got up from his chair. "Been a pleasure doing business with ya" he said, merrily waving as he jogged to catch up with Ish and the girls at the booth.

"Stereoty...!" Xhadree's eyes narrow. "You know, dear, ears have a secondary function next to looking dainty. You should look into that one day." Suppressing an angry quivering of her lekku, the young mechanic takes a slow sip from her glass.

"As I may have said before, I would actually even respect people for not being walking clichés - be it tropes of hostility, of species ... or of meek, submissive femininity."

At those last words, Xhadree finds herself on the verge of baring her sharp teeth. Taking a deep breath, she reins in her rising temper.

"Okay, I may have chosen my words a bit too carelessly earlier. I grant you that. And I am sorry for it. But if you actually think that there is no middle ground between mee... defenselessness and hostility, you must have rather extreme views." She lifts her hand to intercept an objection. "What I was trying to say earlier was this: I would expect a woman confident enough to carry a weapon to be also confident enough to rebuff unwanted attentions. And not by resorting to open hostilities."

Xhadree actually chuckles as she continues. "Nevermind that there seem to be more than enough males who consider a rebuff to be an open hostility." Her wry smile has an almost sisterly touch for a moment.

"But what I am asking myself now is: Why did this Rodian at the bar seem so helpless, then? Did you count on someone coming to your aid? Yeah, that would deftly save you from a potentially violent confrontation. You. Your saviours would probably have to look over their shoulders for any vengeful acts of your suitor wannabee, though." Realizing that her tone was again becoming aggressive, Xhadree again forces her temper down.

"Sorry, I just don't like it when someone plays my friends for fools. Maybe you really didn't do that." The Twi'lek leans forward again, her eyes searching Zukuta's face without hostility. "But - and I ask that without any hidden agenda - what would you have done if they hadn't jumped in? Would you really have let that thug force himself on you? Why?"

The Devaronian's grin spreads from ear to ear, and he narrowly avoids reaching out to grab the next credit stick thrown at him. "Will do, sir Hoyle. Ahll keep yeh updated", he says, nodding at the man in front of him. "pleasure doin' buisness."

Xhadree's jocular response seem to calm the Rodian girl. Zukuta is actually grinning at the Twi'lek by the time she finishes speaking: "My apologies too, Xhadree," she says, distinctly pronouncing the name correctly for the first time. She seems a little genuinely unsure, for the first time since she's sat down:"I'll say this: in my experience acting out some 'middle ground' doesn't get you anywhere. Rather it..." She pauses and tilts her head, as if deciding how much to tell this girl she just met about her intentions. "Okay, I'll be frank with you dear. You've proven yourself enough of an intelligent young lady, and I respect that. Yes, I even respect the hostility you've shown me. It's only natural and wise to be suspicious of someone you just met. Especially when that someone," she gives Xhadree a knowing smile, "is packing. No, none of that. My affronted hostility towards you actually relates to why I am here." She pauses for a second and takes a deep breath before continuing: "I am looking for my brother. He left for Thakba's palace about a month ago, and never made contact, so my... I was worried about him, so I went to talk to Thakba. He said he had seen him only a few days ago, heading here after Dobah. I don't know why he didn't contact me... make contact sooner, but he is definitely going to hear from me when I find him." she says with increased intensity, as if trying to make herself believe she would find him. "I was trying to get an in with one of his main thugs, Daro - that man that was harassing me - so I could find out what happened to him. Once he takes me back to his hideout, drunk as can be, how hard would it be to find out what I wanted to know? It's not pretty, sure, but I'll do anything to find my... my brother." She leans back, a scowl marring her pretty face: "That is, until your friend Drake stepped in with his rather handsome wookiee friend and put a stop to that. And as for a violent confrontation with Daro? Don't think I do not revel at the idea. He deserves to be put down, like a rabid Kath Hound." She grits her teeth, before returning to her normal disposition, "But that would not have been the proper way to deal with the situation. Not everything is solved with violence, as you have pointed out. Now I must ask for your help, that my plan has failed. It's unlikely he will come back now that he has been embarrassed in that way." She sighed slightly, and leaned back: "But I must ask that you do not tell the others of my true intentions with Daro. I do not expect they will so readily understand my plight, as you do, Xhadree" She says, eying her with a smile, "And the whole thing is rather shameful for m- ah, here they come back now. Thank you again, brave wookiee for rescuing me from him. I don't know what I would have done if there hadn't been such a strong guy around to help me." she finishes with a laugh.

I really apologize for not comprehending the wookiee tongue. It's really quite embarrassing. The girl is saved from further talking by Trizka finally heading back over: "Oh! I am so sorry I haven't been back with your drinks yet. They will be right out. Darrec pulled out his datapad, sending a message to Sys and Horza, leaning the screen slightly toward Xhadree to clue her in as to what was up.
<Think we found a few leads at the bar. When you guys are ready, we can meet up and compare notes.>
Meanwhile, a little idle prattle couldn't hurt.
"You know, with those three thugs still about, the streets might not be safe tonight--er--even more than usual I mean." Darrec directed his statement toward the waitress and Zukata. Darrec conspicuously winked in Ish's direction before adding "Unless one of you's already staked a claim on his services, that is." Darrec laughed, implying a jest. And then, snapping back into her waitressly behavior, says "Right... Okay. Xhadree turns her head to the young Rodian at the table. "Actually, no, not yet, boss. Wait, I'll ask her." Lowering the comlink, she relays the question. "Zukuta, the boss just asked for a rather useful detail, I have to admit that. What's your brother's name?"

"His name is Wuther," she responds evenly, "but I doubt it'll come to much; knowing his name, I mean. He'll either be up there or he won't, I imagine." She shrugs. "So will you guys help me out?"

Back on the ship, the quiet Syslyth nods and says "Sure thing" while holding the Rodian in place with his hands during the conversation. It isn't really needed though; the bug isn't trying anything.

"You are refreshingly uncomplicated, as always, Ish." Darrec said, lifting his glass slightly in a gesture of acknowledgement to his Wookiee crewmate. "It's one of your most redeeming qualities. When I need a break from subtlety and subterfuge, I can always count on Ish for a dose of honesty."

"Darrec can handle that for now, then you all can meet us with our Rodian friend at the ship. Horza would prefer these two Rodians not get involved together, there's too many Rodian things going around right now for Horza's comfort." The Gand leans against a bulkhead. Afterwards, the boss urgently expects us, so we should better settle our bill - and if you forget to give Trizka a real nice tip, we'll have a talk later." Xhadree grins at Darrec.

"Oh, and Ish? If you really want to see her home, make sure you know when she clocks off, and where to meet her." She nudges the Wookiee's ribs.

"As for our business, miss--if only starships ran on the gratitude of of those we could help. And unfortunately supplies cannot be bought with tales of high adventure." Darrec leaned back, draping one arm over the back of the booth and pensively taking a drink from his ale.
"Cold as it may seem to ask, we'll need to know what's on offer here. Our captain is a bit more--let's say practical--about these sorts of things than I would be."

The Waitress smiles at the party as she approaches the table. "If there's nothing else I can get for you, here's your check. Sixteen credits for the whole thing." she smiles and looks at Ish in particular. "Oh and uh, I'm off work in two hours. Come meet me here?"

Once the check has been paid, and the party leaves the room, they notice the hours have cooled the previously scorching day. The evening is onset, and it's hard to make out individuals in the dusk. The serene quiet of the evening is interrupted by a familiar voice. The trash talking, dual-wielding thug yells out, jarring in the night: "Hey! Runt clearly didn't have any idea who he was messing with. Drop your weapons and we'll go easy on you." And fires off a warning shot in the party's general direction. It's a little hard to see, but in the illumination caused by the blaster several dark shapes seem to be emergent from the night, taking cover behind small trash compactors and various stray debris. They all have their weapons aimed at the group, although no one else has fired yet. The only source of cover near the group is a small trash compactor situated a few feet from the wall. It smells, and probably won't hide more than one person to any effect.

Since it's dark, 1 black dice added to any ranged rolls you decide to take. All enemies have cover. Roll perception if you want to try and make out the exact number of people. Hard difficulty. Roll cool if you want to bust out the shots. Or roll both, maybe. Black die from being dark doesn't apply to melee.

"Well Ish, looks like we'll be dancing the blaster tango sooner than I thought."
Darrec reaches into his coat, and swiftly draws a hidden pistol, giving it a twirling flourish for good measure.

Looking around, Darrec notices that the streetlights aren't on, but with any luck...

Flipping a Destiny Point to introduce a nearby control box that Xhadree or someone with Mechanics could repair/operate to turn on the street lights.

"Xhadree, see if you can shed some light on our predicament. Ought to be a fusebox or something nearby." Darrec nods upward to indicate the uncooperative lights.
Finally, Darrec reaches into his coat again, drawing his own secondary pistol. No sense dirtying his sword with the likes of these fools.
"I certainly wouldn't want anyone to miss this performance." he said with a wicked grin. Turing to Ish, he added "Shall we, big guy?"

Ish can't help but think that "he looks just like me" isn't a helpful description made by one Rodian to a group of non-Rodians but he doesn't call Zukuta on it, though the Wookiee does roll his eyes at Darrec's comment. <Ha ha, ha ha, don't forget who your sparring buddy is, 'Drake,'> he responds with somewhat of a good nature. <I don't know how I feel about spikes, though, but hey, I'll try anything once.> At the human's next statement, Ish grows rather quiet. <Thank you,> Ish says calmly, taken aback a little by the compliment. <It's the natural way of Wookiees. Not many of us go about the world with guile.>

As they get up to leave, Ish goes first with his axe in hand. He continues to carry the large weapon through the streets as they walk, assuming the no-nonsense demeanor of a skilled warrior.

When the big-talking human fires off the shot, Ish just chuckles. <He thinks you're a runt? Hah,> is the Wookiee's dark response. He unshoulders the satchel to press it to Xhadree, taking a full grip on his axe. <It's been awhile since I really had to knock some heads, hopefully these guys aren't total pushovers,> he barks, limbering up his arm.

Accepting the satchel from Isshliakazza, the Twi'lek almost tries to sling it over her shoulders. She quickly reconsiders, however, and tucks it under her arm. Then she dashes over to a nearby access panel that seems to belong to the darkened street lights.

Darrec noticed the lights above their attackers come on. Nice work, Xhadree, he thought. Now to make the most of it.

In the brief span of light that follows Xhadree's attempt to get the power back on, Darrec pegs one of the thugs in the chest, forcing him to his knees, clutching in pain. Ish charges and emerges from the darkness like death itself, cleaving his foe completely in two before emitting an incomprehensible (to your enemies, anyway) scream.

During the flash of light, Darrec and Ish are able to pin-point the rest of the targets. Three thugs who you've never seen before are arrayed close up (two and two halves, now), and the three the group saw in the bar are staying further back. When Ish cuts the thug in half, an observant eye would be able to make out the two nameless thugs eyes widen in fear. As darkness takes over the streets once again, a pained cry is heard: "This ain't worth it!", and the sounds of frenzied feet follow the darkened impressions of the two nearest thugs back from where they came.

Rolled fear checks for them cause of Ish wasting their friend. They failed.

However, the main slimeball isn't giving up that easily: "Cowards!" he yells after them, before yelling at his two remaining allies: "He's only a beast. Take him down."

As both sides exchange blaster fire, Ish feels the air sizzle around him, feels pinpricks of heat as blaster shots hit his armor. A combination of the padded armor and his own thick fur and dense muscles means that those puny bolts accomplish little. <Let's take their leader alive!> he roars a suggestion to Darrec as the human slides into cover next to him.

Without waiting for a response, Ish charges the remaining crew of three toughs. Seeing his friends' shots hit the leader from the bar, Ish instead focuses on the friends. It is, after all, not wise to upset a Wookiee.

Satisfied that their foes were probably going to have their hands full, now that Ish was careening right towards them, Xhadree turns back to the control panel. Wincing from the blaster wound, she shoves the pain into a mental closet and takes up her work again.

"Va foppa gee wontahumpa, I wonder," she murmurs, inspecting the wiring for a few moments before getting to work with her tools. And this time, the street lights concede defeat and come alive with a warm, orange glow. Just in time to fully illuminate the mountain of auburn and black fur, ferocious green eyes, and gleaming fangs bearing down on the three thugs ...

Again, Xhadree tries to get the lights to work. Preferably only the ones next to their enemies - well, and Ish, considering that they're inseparable. But if she can keep Darrec and herself in the dark, she will.

Ish charges at the group, cutting open another unlucky thug just as Xhadree manages to get the faltering lights to turn on. The thug's sunken eyes are still open in shock over his gaunt face as he falls. Darrec comes over and fires a round point blank into the leader's surprised chest. He coils back in shock, and promptly turns and flees into the dark, but not before both giving Darrec a hearty sneer and running past and trying to shove the last remaining sidekick in the way. The sidekick himself, a ruddy and wrinkled Weequay, thinking it silly to try and outrun a raging Wookiee and his sharpshooting companions, promptly raises his hands in surrender. "Gut Quit" he says simply.

Having hacked cleanly through another lackey, the Wookiee roars as the bloodlust comes over him, the gruesome figure enough to make the lead thug drop his blaster and flee. Ish gives the surrendering Weequay only a passing glance as he dashes after the "leader."

Darrec feels a palpable gust of air as a roaring dark blur comes barreling past him. He leans slightly to the side, giving his friend a wide berth.
"Remember Ish, we were going to take him alive." Darrec says halfheartedly.

"Xhadree, I do appreciate the spotlight." He shouts over his shoulder. "You can come out safely. Whoever didn't bolt for it is in several rather gruesome pieces."

Well that wasn't very inspiring :/ Eh, one recovered strain to whichever one of you is lower on it.

Turning then to the captive Weequay in front of him, Darrec continues "As for you, the only one smart enough to surrender--you can kindly drop your weapons and put your hands behind your head. We'll figure out what to do with you momentarily."

Darrec whips one of his blasters into his coat and pulls out a commlink, dialing Horza.
"Captain, it seems we've a prisoner, and I expect Ish will be returning with another shortly." Darrec describes their location and the direction of Ish's pursuit, in case Horza wanted to head the runner off.

"'You can come out', he says," Xhadree returns in a sarky tone. "Who's been out in the open working on your stage lighting while the blaster bolts were flying, pateesa? Or couldn't you see that from your cover?" The young mechanic steps into the pool of light, stowing her tools again.

When her gaze falls upon Ish's handiwork, her blue face takes on a slightly greenish hue, and she looks away again. "Ugh ... maybe someone should clean up here or something ... won't be good business for the Rii Jenk's, such a mess right in front of the entrance. Wouldn't want Trizka to loose her employment ..."

Then Xhadree draws her blaster from the drop-leg holster and points the muzzle at the Weequay's face, all the while listening to Darrec's com-call.

Horza's team is walking the darkening streets with the captive Rodian, his bindings obscured by the close proximity of Syslyth and Emcee. As they near the rendezvous point with Darrec's team, Horza's commlink goes off. He makes a clicking noise as he raises it to his head. "Prisoners? You had a problem? You know we're bringing a friend too, right? And Ish is taking prisoners now? That's new. Are you drunk? Ha ha, just messing with you. Are we still good to go?"

"Oh, a friend? I'm sure your 'friend' and our 'friend' will have so much to talk about. I take it someone rolled out the welcome mat for you too?"

Darrec flipped a switch on his commlink, putting it in 'speaker' mode thus allowing Xhadree to hear Horza and easily join the conversation.

In response to Horza's mention of Ish, he said "Actually, the state he was in, I suspect he's more likely to bring back a trophy than a prisoner. Er, speaking of which--" Darrec glanced around at Ish's handiwork. "You gents wouldn't happen to know who to call for sanitation detail around here would you? Ish left...a bit of a mess."

At last able to get his thoughts together, Darrec breathes a sigh of relief for his frazzled nerves

Ish quickly catches up with and subdues the thugs' leader. He squirms against the wookiee's grasp, apparently unable to understand how futile the venture is. He keeps up the act as Ish drags him back to the party, spewing profanities, insults, exaggerated accounts of his importance, and everything in between.

When Horza arrives with the Rodian in tow, the bug's eyes go wide at the sight of the two-pistol toting mess currently thrashing against the giant Ishliakazza. "Tha-that's..." he begins to mutter, when the man shoots him a glare: "Hey, shut up bugface. Don't get yourself into any more trouble eh?". The final prisoner remains quiet this entire time, his eyes closed, swaying gently back and forth, causing the Weequay's three dark braids to follow suit.

Darrec then notices the visible blaster burn in Xhadree's clothes.
"Agh, Xhadree, that doesn't look pleasant. Though it's a wonder these blighters were able to hit any of us. Need MC to look at that? I think I can keep tabs on this one." He says, tilting his head in the direction of the Weequay.

She winces a bit when her wound complains, but only manages to tone the laughter down to a giggle and point a meaningful look at the huge reptilian's razor-clawed feet.

"You caught us - we're keeping it in a secret stash with Horza's shaver and my comb!"

Looking down at the blaster burn with a sigh, she nods. "You're right about the wound, though. Emcee, a little help here?"

Syslyth smiles good naturedly at Xhadree's jest, and nods deferentially to Horza, speaking in his quiet way. "Go ahead and take away the investigation. I am sure whoever resists can be roughed up sufficiently." he then walks over to the human, cuffs him, and shoves a gag halfway down his throat. He then nods at the group in general.

The Rodian's eyes bug out more than usual, and says very slowly: "I... this was the man who hired me to steal a ship full of spice that was scheduled to land earlier today. He told me to take the ship to a different hangar, and his men would handle it from there. I would get compensated on the spot." when he finished his methodical speech, the Rodian shudders and twitches slightly again, looking frantically at the people around him.

Around this time, the lights turn on all over, and you notice you have accrued something of an audience. There are quite a few people staring and gawking at the severed bodies, the blood, the bloodstained wookiee, and the strange group's several prisoners. They look harmless for now, but it could be impossible to know who is watching from so many eyes. The human prisoner seems to have the same idea, and is scanning the crowd.

MC-K01 walks over to Xhadree: "Certainly, Madam. I strive to be a most helpful assistant."

Darrec scans the crowd. We did leave quite the mess here. Last thing we need is trouble with the locals. Well, time for a little showmanship.

"So you think you can attack people in the dark of night? Well, whether you were after our money or our lives, it seems you weren't ready for a crew of our caliber, gentlemen!" Darrec proclaims this, ostensibly directing it toward the thugs, but ensuring that the gathered crowd hears him. He recalls the Devaronian infochant's words that these guys were known troublemakers. "There'll be no more terrorizing the people of this spaceport for you. I regret that your men had to come to such a gruesome end, but such is the fate of those who go looking for trouble and instead find--" <pause for dramatic effect> "--Horza's Heroes!"

"Let's go somewhere more quiet and less...gory before we talk to Ish's friend," he suggests. "Not the ship," he adds quickly. The Gand gives Ish and Syslyth a Look. Darrec's bit works. A few of them throw nods in the party's general direction for a job well done, a few more seem to be making calls on their holos. Ultimately though, most of them just shrug and walk off. This sort of thing isn't too far from the ordinary around here, and they knew it was best to keep distance from the whole thing. Still, you can never be certain who walks amongst the crowd, and with a few of the thugs still at large, there's no telling what sort of things can lurk in the busy streets for idle heroes.

Syslyth nods: "Best we move soon. But where? We do not have any friends on this rock."

Now's a good time to mention a notable backpack the human prisoner is wearing. I meant to before, but somehow I think it kept slipping my mind at all the right times. Anyways, he's wearing a heavy-looking backpack.

"But onto the matter at hand." he said, turning to Ish's captive. "I suspect you're this Daro I've been hearing about. Every outlaw's got some forsaken hidey-hole to scurry back to. Where's yours? And remember, you're outnumbered."

The young mechanic chuckles. "I admit, you're damn good at the flamboyant stuff! But I bet that even now a certain old lady is advertising that Horza's Heroes themselves buy their water from her ..." With a shrug of her lekku, she continues. "Next time, how about simply asking for witnesses for when the lawmen arrive? Horza leads the team out of the main spaceport complex, past the speeder rentals and nearby inns, out and around into a seedier area until he reaches an old, seemingly-abandoned junkyard. "Gorella's Parts & Salvage" as the rusted sign reads, has definitely seen better days. Even its signature image, a busty Gammorean female with a wrench as big as she is, is caked in a layer of exhaust, pitted by sand, and blackened with industrial grime.

The open entrance makes the place seem abandoned, though there are dim lights coming from a far-away office structure. The junkyard seems to be organized without rhyme or reason, though presumably the owner would know where to find a speeder chassis in the graveyard of tech.

Horza leads the group deeper and deeper through the haphazard trails until he comes to a particular low-lying spot, where decades if not centuries of industrial runoff have pooled and seeped into a small, horrid lake. It's here that he turns to the human and the Rodian, but he remains quiet, his eyes and ears (such as they are) keenly searching for any other unwelcome observers.

As the party makes the long trek into the seedier underbelly of town, both Horza and Darrec notice a faint fluttering sound oscillating in and out of hearing. Given the wide array of noises associated with a polyspecies spaceport, the two write it off as inconsequential and forget it even before they truly notice it. However, now, in the gloom and filth of Gorella's junkyard, the pair can hear the sound again, recalling all the times they heard it on the way here. However, it's impossible to pin down the direction the sound is coming from in between Xhadree's speech.

On the way to Horza's hiding spot, Darrec continues to defend his earlier showmanship
"...and I bet we get a dozen job offers within a few Standard days thanks to that. People missing loved ones calling up Horza's Heroes to find them, daring heists requiring only those of utmost skill, all manner of new and exciting opportunities--"

There it is again. That weird fluttering sound. Darrec pulls out his datapad and begins walking up to Horza. The captain's got the best ears, or whatever Gand have, out of any of us. If anyone else heard it, surely it'd be him. Darrec shows his datapad to Horza.

<Someone or something might be following us, boss-man. Could just be a flock of mynocks, but the way this day's been going I doubt it. I'll give the others the heads up. Awaiting further instructions ;) >

Darrec makes his way to each member of the crew, feigning idle conversation while showing them a message:

I hate being watched. Especially when I don't know who or what is doing the watching, he thought. Still he continues as though nothing is amiss, taking up position next to Xhadree, who seemed to find a new and interesting whatsit behind every pile of garbage. Shoulv have known not to bring her to a junkyard if we wanted to be all quiet-like, Horza thinks, noting the noise again. When Darrec approaches him about it he nods, and types back: <Horza hears it too. Why don't you take Syslyth and check it out?>

After a minute or two, Darrec nods to Syslyth, signaling him to help begin the search. Before setting out, Darrec asks to borrow Horza's binoculars and stops to talk to MC.

"MC, got anything in your databanks about winged creatures that might inhabit a place like this? What about common winged sentient species?"

Severance28

Syslyth nods and together with Darrec they search the nearly abandoned scrap yard. They walk around the immediate area, forcing themselves over collapsing junk piles and sticky decomposition. One particularly disgusting element of their search is a festering womp rat, half rotten away, barely recognizable as the creature it used to be. On the pairs approach, several of the creatures smaller cousins go squeaking and scurrying out of the corpse. It is evident that they had been feeding on it.

"A womp rat this far west? I don't like the looks of that" Syslyth mutters. Looking around, Syslyth says: "I don't see or hear any sign of your friend. We'll have to conduct the interrogations quickly, hope they crack soon, and keep an eye out for anyone who might be coming back this way."

Back at the fester-pool, Syslyth's hope doesn't seem that far fetched. The poor young Rodian Vreebo seems like he's about to burst. He looks every which way with bugged eyes, unable to focus on anything in particular, but his eyes always darting back to Horza and his bag in particular. Those who know about such things will recognize this as a type of glitterstim withdrawal, if somewhat uncommon. His seems particularly bad, perhaps a few days gone, and would explain his twitchiness in general. The bug finally seems to break, and moves over to Horza, saying: "C-can I have my... my stuff back I just need to... Vreebo's words keep running together and he alternates between speaking fairly mechanically to speaking quickly and all in one breath. It can be difficult to understand him for parts of it, but the gist is definitely clear to those present. Daro makes a noise deep in his throat at the start of the speech, but still being gagged he cannot say anything to intimidate the young Rodian.
