I'm going to be rolling up a Druid for a friends campaign. I've been looking for any feats or variants that would let me get some for of oddity instead of an animal companion using only PF material (We aren't allowed to dip into 3.5).
I'd prefer to get some form of aberration or plant type companion if that is possible.

So can this be done? Did I miss something in my searching or will I be taking a basic animal?

You could get a familiar, then take the Improved Familiar feat.
But I must admit, I can't think of any way to get a plant companion.

Well, you could always just ask the DM if you could burn a feat to be able to take something different.

Propose a few creatures of the type you want which have similar CRs to the animals that you normally have access to and see what he/she says.
