What's a good class to gish with a scarred witchdoctor

I have a character concept I'd like to play but I'm not sure what melee class to pair with the scarred witch doctor. I was thinking he would mostly be a pugilist /unarmed fighter that hexed and debuffed his opponents and then pummeled them although he would carry and use weapons when necessary. What say you playgrounders?

I'd be tempted to go with a Mad Dog barbarian, so you could pretend that you still have a familiar.

Urban Barbarian. Con bonus to the save DCs of your hexes (and if you can convince your DM, spells as well).

I think scarred witch doctor specifically uses con for spells as well as hexes no convincing required. Controlled rage looks nice being able to cast while mad is always good.
