How many cities are there in Faerun?
Specifically cities where an adventurer could "go shopping".

How many including the Underdark?

Including the Planar Cosmology?

Reasonable estimates are fine, not looking for outright RAW for such a thing.
Mostly just curious, though it might have an impact on one of our epic games.

This should help

Edit* There are actually a lot more cities than this.

Genuine lol at the edit because as I was typing the post I decided to Google the question and that linked page, and the obvious dearth of cities by volume, is what decided me on going ahead and posting. Thanks though.

Scores. For an epic adventurer, less so (probably still a decent handful, though).

There are only a couple of Drow cities that would mean much. Menzoberranzan is obviously a big one.

Sigil, the City of Brass and Union. With those three, you never need to return to the Prime Material Plane again.

Thought there were quite a few Dwarf cities in the Upperdark?

Union?

I'm honestly not sure. I never looked too deeply into the Dwarf thing. The Underdark book just had some destroyed Dwarf kingdoms.

There is Deep Imaskar, but good luck getting there.

Union?
It's in the ELH.

With large cites it is somewhere north of 40, and this (http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Large_cities) site seems to agree.

Of course that doesn't count smaller heaver magic user communities or other places on Toril where they could go shopping.

As for the underdark depends on if they can get away with shopping from aboleths and beholders and mind flayers etc.
