Bear Totem Question

I have a question regarding the Bear Totem alternative class feature in Complete Champion. Using this ACF, you switch your fast movement for the Improved Grab ability. In this entry for Improved Grab it says:


If a creature with this special attack hits with a melee weapon (usually a claw or bite attack), it deals normal damage and attempts to start a grapple as a free action without provoking an attack of opportunity. No initial touch attack is required.

My question: Do I need to use a natural weapon to use this ability? Or can I use Improved Grab with a longsword of a warhammer?

It says it works off of any melee weapon, so non-natural attacks are fine.
