So, Shadow Evocation and Shadow Conjuration are often listed as must-have spells for Sorcerers or others with restricted spell lists because of their flexibility in duplicating other spells.

But, assuming that none of the common shenanigans are being used (so, just the spells as written, no extra realness or Shadowcraft etc), what are the best spells to mimic?

Without those shenanigans, it strikes me that normal blasting spells are not a good choice since you're adding an extra save against them. So what is good?

I had a character get some use out of Shadow Conjuration to mimic Phantom Steed and Stinking Cloud quite a bit. Even if enemies save against Stinking Cloud, it still blocks sight.

Contingency is a classic one. You get access to the best spell that you'd lost by banning evocation, even if some of the other spells you lose aren't as good if they're copied.

Both excellent examples: spells with real, useful effects that the shadow nature doesn't have too much effect on - assuming you and your party voluntarily fail your save.

What other examples like this are there?
