View Full Version : I want to play a Lamia (3.P)

Basically I want to play as a half woman half snake creature. The Lamia Matriarch is pretty much exactly what I want for the race (minus some kind of poison bite)....but the CR is way too high to be playable. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/monstrous-humanoids/lamia/lamia-matriarch

Any suggestions on how to cut down the CR into something more manageable? I'm looking to get within like CR 2-3 here.

Also swim speed will be useless in my current campaign (like literally swimming is not allowed to be a thing. DM said so) factor that in I guess?

I'd like to keep the spell like abilities if possible (perhaps change charm monster to disguise self or charm person?), as well as the wisdom drain and the shape changing ability. I'm fine with removing the HD and spellcasting. Wouldn't mind losing the deep slumber SLA either.

What more should I do to cut their CR?

If you're OK with morphing between humanoid/half-snake form occasionally, synthesist summoner is the easiest way. Start with a vishkanya (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/uncommon-races/arg-vishkanyas) if you want your humanoid form to look a bit serpentine.

Spells or powers can have a similar effect but generally last 1 min/level or less (edit: in PF. 3.5 is more forgiving here.)

IIRC, PF recently removed the +CR adjustment from playable races. If you can dig that up, you can play with an adjustment of +0.

I really want to be humanoid/half snake as the default form. I'm allowed to use the pathfinder race builder or find any race/template combo in 3.5 or pathfinder (no level adjustment buy off though Q_Q). Even some homebrew options would be nice (the game is using a lot of homebrew stuff anyway).

Greensnake Naga from Oriental adventures sound like what you're looking for. They are +1 LA with good stats, and a poison bite that can be used in a grapple or to poison weapons. (The poison should also apply to a bite gained another way, e.g. two levels of totemist.)

I've never playtested it, but there's a homebrew lamia race someone made for pathfinder on this forum here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=138802).
