LA0 Races with Poison

Well, it's wicked cheesy, but the Hairy Spider in Monsters of Faerun (p80), which has a really lame poison attack, was updated in a Web Enhancement (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040313a) to be LA +0. It really probably should have been LA +0 (cohort) or something, since it isn't really playable seeing as it has "Int --" (which I've never understood for Vermin).

Can you Awaken a vermin? Awaken says you can use it on an animal or tree... "animal" is a particular type, but "tree" isn't, so maybe it means "animal" in the normal English sense of the word and not the D&D type? Probably not.

The Hidden Talent feat (XPH p67) for Psionic Minor Creation (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/minorCreationPsionic.htm) can make poisons, or just make a Psion (Shaper). You're not automatically immune to this poison, though you could make your character a Warforged for immunity to all poisons (and Warforged Shapers are awesome), or you could spend a feat on Poison Immunity (BoVD) for one specific type of poison that you always use (Black Lotus Extract (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm#poison)). If using Hidden Talent you'll want a means of gaining additional powerpoints, possibly with a naturally psionic race or just a pile of 1-point Cognizance Crystals (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/items/cognizanceCrystals.htm).

If feats and things are allowed, anything with Animal Devotion can produce poison.

Feats would work, thanks Piggy! Unfortunately, it's not a matter of making a poison, but more a matter of having that natural attack. S'all good though now!

No, but Pathfinder has the Vermin Heart (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/vermin-heart) feat, which would let you to use Awaken on them. Not very helpful, but potentially, depending on how your DM feels about Pathfinder.

For poisonous natural attacks, I'd go with a human Psychic Warrior. You can still pick up hidden talent to grab Minor Creation. Also pick up Master of Poisons from Drow of the Underdark. It grants you the effects of Poison Use and lets you apply a poison as a swift action. For your first level PW power, grab Claws of the Beast.

Vishkanyas (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/uncommon-races/arg-vishkanyas) from Pathfinder are a LA 0, snakelike race that can spit poison onto their weapon as a swift action, and the poison DC scales with their level.

Anthropomorphic Viper, Large or huge, have 2 or three HD but no LA.
