 Hi, and welcome to The Sticks Awards!

:smallamused: The Sticks Awards are given to the best strips of all times, chosen by the polls here in the Playground. Each poll will have a group of 10 comics, chronologically chosen, and every hundred strips we'll have a "Best of the Hundred" poll, with the most voted strip of each previous poll.

:smallcool: Each poll will have the duration of a week. Voters can only pick one choice. Links are provided for people to re-read the comics. This week's poll features comics #81 to #90.

:smallwink: If you have any suggestions or comments, feel free to comment on this thread.

 Thanks for voting!

It's gotta be #86. As soon as I looked at the comic, I was in fits of laughter over it.

#82. Beats Pay-Per-View. Redcloak's initial reaction of absolute horror and then conversion to curiosity was amusing.

"With such short stubby little bodies I'd never imagine they'd be so agile as to...."

"It's educational and entertaining!"

84 had great drama, 86 and 87 were hilarious, and most of them were at least worth noting. A good group, but I have to go with 81. The last four panels still crack me up.

Whaaa? First voter for #87? Not only is it hillarious (V's a half-camel!), but you gotta love the artwork in the last strip.

So conflicted... 84 or 90...
Eh, deciding the best strip ever... not necessarily the funniest.

"Saddest. Comic. Ever."

A lot of these are good. But two of them are ones that still make me laugh a ton, even though I've read them many times:

"Does it do expresso?" "No." "NEVER!"

"I got a 4!"

So I voted for the latter of the two, because it's the underdog of the two (and because Banjo already won last week's poll even though it didn't deserve to IMHO).

Are these the funniest strips ever? Or the best in art quality, or other criteria? No. But they're both tip-top (IMHO) in the category of "most re-readable."

#90. The ever-memorable "I GOT A 4!" combined with the 'listed INT score' joke at the beginning, and Plans A, B, & C at the end, makes for a very unique comic.

Very closely followed by the numerous and hilarious invisibility jokes in #89. Quite a lot of contenders in this group, really.

I should vote for 84. Not a joke to be found, but excellent powerful stuff and as much character development as Durkon ever got.

So, why am tempted to vote for 86 instead? Could be because it's punchline is so perfectly delivered? Not till "test of the heart" has there been a rival to the traditional long setup / short punchline joke where punchline comes out of nowhere and yet fits like a glove.

84 it is. Quite a feat of versatility for Giant to come out with two such different excellent strips just one away from each other.

It's got to be First Church of Banjo, especially for "Banjo wisely believes that the consumer knows best how to spend his or her hard earned money". :elan: More proof that despite his mental deficiencies, in some ways Elan's a genius.

Banjulhu and "I got a 4!" are strong contenders too, of course!

Gotta be 86. The Most Important Quest...just so unexpected; the way they were talking, it seemed like the party was in serious trouble.

OK...... I'm feeling like the guy getting left out at the party here..... could someone explain to me why exactly "I got a 4!" is funny? Because I am not getting it at all.

Actually... I don't see the connection there. One is funny because of a meta-game joke, the other because it is a reference to another work of comedy. They're funny for different reasons.

Precisely. If I used a joke that was fundamentally identical, his reaction to both would be functionally identical. Any point I could try to make using that example would be both redundant and purposeless, as I'd only be stating the previously and presently established in solemn, arbitrary agreement. Such action would be a complete waste of bytes and time, useful only to amuse my obtrusively facetious sense of humor, provided I could twine it with a suitably ironic delivery. Come to think of it, that's not such a bad idea!

The "I rolled a 4" is above all wonderful, and should make a top 10 of all strips...

that strips makes new people read OotS

but Belkar's comment is priceless: "Really? See that always struck me as plan our Plan A"

only one quote better: "You know, the first two, I probably should have seen coming. The leprechaun costume? Not so much...."

I just know the way he says it... rather laconic I am sure... cracks m up every time...

((the Monthy Pythin spoof was good too "I think you are slipping to another scetch. or better "The Irony is staggering"))
