I keep hearing that your size category or height limits your jump skill or something, but I cannot see any mention of anything similiar to that in the rules. What are people talking about, is there a rule I missed?

It was an old rule from 3.0 that got phased out in the transition to 3.5. It's generally safe to ignore; creatures no longer have a maximum jump distance based on their height.

"Obviously, the difficulty of reaching a given height varies according to the size of the character or creature. The maximum vertical reach (height the creature can reach without jumping) for an average creature of a given size is shown on the table below. (As a Medium creature, a typical human can reach 8 feet without jumping.)

Quadrupedal creatures don’t have the same vertical reach as a bipedal creature; treat them as being one size category smaller."

Then why do so many people still state that distance collerates to height?

That isn't a limitation to jump height or anything. That isn't even for jumping really.

Well, jump height correlates with/depends on jump distance, but I don't think that's what they're talking about if they're causing you confusion. I've honestly never heard of anyone still using that silly old rule, but a fair amount of un-updated 3.0 material references it; if they don't know that it's 3.0, they might think that the rule survived the update.

If you're interested, you can find the old Jump skill rules on the 3.0 SRD (http://www.opengamingfoundation.org/srd.html).

It's right there, in the Jump skill description. You add your vertical reach to your high jump distance. That's how high you can reach with a jump.
