In normal D&D a cleric has to be within 1 step of your deities alignment. But pathfinder says....

"Alignment: A cleric’s alignment must be within one step of her deity’s, along either the law/chaos axis or the good/evil axis (see Chapter 7)." - Core Rulebook page 39

This sounds like a worshipper of Abadar (LN god) could be NE. Because you meet the one step in 'Law/Chaos'. The description above says 'either' law/chaos or good/evil. Not both. Am I reading this wrong or is it not written correctly?

Meet the deity's alignment on one axis. Be within one step or the same on the other.

Either-or means one axis only. :smallconfused:

The pathfinder wiki is actually decent about noting these: Here's Abadar's spread (http://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Abadar).

Well, if you're one step away on both axes, you're actually two steps away.

Also, keep in mind that in the Golarion setting at least, that alignment restriction is not an absolute thing: Under exceptional circumstances, a cleric (or even a paladin) can follow a deity with an incompatible alignment. Once in a while you see deluded LG servants of Asmodeus, for example.
