ELDER EVIL EPIGONE
"I serve a greater power. One that even your petty gods have learned to fear."

While their reasons may vary, all elder evil epigones seek to further their master's goals. Some select a single one out of reverence, or lacking in knowledge of any others. Others follow a number, if not all of the evils. Those that follow them all often simply seek the destruction of the world and care little of the means. From the close ties to the dead held by Atropus Epigones, to the horrific transformations brought by Ragnorra Epigones, to destruction wrought by Leviathan Epigones, they come from all walks of life and work tirelessly to end it.

Hit Die: d6

REQUIREMENTS
To qualify to become an elder evil epigone, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.
Alignment: Any Evil
Skills: Knowledge (any) 8
Feats: Master's Will
Special: Must have been made aware of an elder evil. Often this is through personal study, but can be by any means.

CLASS FEATURES
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An elder evil epigone gains no new weapon or armor proficiencies.

Bonus Feat or Spells: When an elder evil epigone gains 1st level and every level thereafter, the character gains new spells per day as if he also gained a level in whatever spellcasting class he belonged to of his choice. However, when an elder evil epigone attains 1st, 4th, 7th, and 10th level he may choose to gain a bonus feat of his choice instead.
When the elder evil epigone selects +1 level of existing spellcasting class, he does not gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained except for increased effective level of spellcasting. This essentially means he adds the new level to the level of what ever other spellcasting class the character has, then determines spells per day, spells known, and caster level accordingly.

Vile Blessing: At each level an elder evil epigone grows closer to one of the elder evils. Doing so granting different powers. These granted powers and changes to the elder evil epigone are separated in to 4 groups. Least, Lesser, Greater and True. They have access to least at 1st, up to lesser at 4th, greater at 7th, and true at 10th. Each may be selected more than once. In addition to other effects, an elder evil epigone gains a spell resistance against divine spells equal to their level in elder evil epigone. At first level, an elder evil epigone must decide if they are going to follow a single elder evil, or all elder evils as a whole. If they select single, he may only select the blessing of one elder evil, of their choice. However, if they select all, they cannot gain more than one blessing from any given elder evil until 10th level. For example, a 5th level elder evil epigone might have the least vile blessings of Atropus, Hulks of Zoretha, and Ragnorra, and the lesser vile blessing of father Llymic and Zargon. They could not however have both the lesser vile blessing and least vile blessing of Atropus, nor could they receive Ragnorra's least blessing twice.

Blessings of Atropus:

Least: Upon gaining this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains resistance to critical hits. When they would receive a critical hit, they have a 25% chance to resist it, receiving normal damage instead. This increases to 75% then 100% with the 2nd and 3rd granting of this blessing. If the elder evil epigone already is undead, or becomes undead at a later point, this benefit is replaced with gaining the ability to channel negative energy through a touch attack. This deals 1d4 damage or heals undead by the same amount. This increases to 1d6 and 1d8 respectively.

Lesser: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone no longer heals from positive energy and take damage from negative energy but instead heals from negative energy and take damage from positive energy. Upon the second selection of this ability they may bestow 1 negative level with a successful touch attack and heal 1 point of health per hit die the creature has, this increases to 1d4 upon gaining this blessing a third time and the amount healed is multiplied by the number of negative levels bestowed.

Greater: An elder evil epigone who selects this blessing acquires the evolved undead template (Libris mortus, pg 100). If their type is not already undead, then it becomes undead. With each subsequent selection of this blessing, the elder evil epigone gains the template again.

True: Upon acquiring this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains bonus hit points equal to their charisma modifier x their hit die. From this point forward, charisma acts entirely in place of constitution. If the elder evil epigone is not already undead, they become undead.

Blessings of Botothamogg

Least: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]
Lesser: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]
Greater: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]
True: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]

Blessings of Father Llymic

Least: Upon selecting this feature, the elder evil epigone gains resistance to cold 5. This resistance increases by one with each subsequent selection.

Lesser: Upon selecting this ability, an elder evil epigone gains dark healing 1. This functions exactly the same as fast healing but only functions when the elder evil epigone is in complete darkness or inside an area of darkness, deeper darkness, or a similar effect. With each additional selection of this blessing, increase dark healing by 1.

Greater: A character who selects this blessing can take on the form of a Brood Spawn (Elder Evils, pg 37) once per day. For all intents and purposes this functions as wild shape, except the elder evil epigone acquires the brood spawn template for up to 1 hour. An elder evil epigone who takes the form of a brood spawn cannot spread brood fever. With each additional selection of this blessing, increase the number of uses per day by one.

True: Upon selecting this blessing, the elder evil epigone gains the ability to summon brood creatures once per day. The type and number of brood creatures is determined at the time of the summon, but they cannot have a total HD greater than the elder evil epigone's. They remain in place until slain, and are under the command of the epigone. An elder evil epigone cannot use this ability in subsequent days if doing so would have the number of hit die exceed their own.

Blessings of Holashner

Lesser: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]
Greater: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]
True: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]

Blessings of the Hulks of Zoretha:

Lesser: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains the ability to deal 1d4 wisdom damage with a touch attack. This ability may be usable once per day. Doing so increases the level of the spell slot used by 2.

Greater: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone can inflict waking nightmares upon an opponent as a supernatural ability once per day. The DC of the will save of this blessing is equal to the elder evil epigone's character level. When summoning elementals, they may choose between one elder, two greater, or four huge. When summoning displacer beast, they summon a single displacer beast pack lord. Any creature summoned by means of this ability has a chaotic evil alignment and remains in the service of the elder evil epigone for 1 day or until released.

Blessings of the Leviathan:

Least: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone becomes able to move through water as easily as they can move on land. Their swim speed, if they do no already have one, becomes equal to their normal speed and they become able to survive underwater without air for 1 hour. Their speed increases by an additional 10, and the amount of time they can last underwater increases by 1 hour, with each subsequent selection

Lesser: Upon selecting this blessing, once per day, when an elder evil epigone would deal acid, cold, electrical, or fire damage, or they would use an ability with an element descriptor (acid, cold, electricity or fire), they must roll on the table below to determine the damage. This overwrites the normal type of damage and descriptors.
{table=head] d4|damage type
1|Acid
2|Cold
3|Electricity
4|Fire
This increases to 2/day and 3/day when the elder evil epigone gains this blessing again.

100|Dead
Blessings of Pandorym:

Least: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains a power point and knowledge of a 1st level power. This pool increases by 1 and they learn one additional power with each additional selection of this blessing. For the purposes of manifester level for powers gained through blessings of pandorym, your manifester level is equal to twice the number of Blessings of Pandorym you possess, up to a maximum of your character level.

Lesser: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains 3 power points and knowledge of a power up to 3rd. With each additional selection of this blessing, they learn an additional power and their pool increases by 3.

Greater: Upon gaining this blessing, an elder evil epigone's power pool increases by 5 and they learn one power of a level equal to up to half their elder evil epigone level, rounded up. For every additional selection of this blessing, their power pool increases by 5 more and they learn 1 additional power.

Blessings of Ragnorra:

Least: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone becomes able to use turn undead 1/day as a cleric equal to their elder evil epigone level. They gain one additional use per day with each additional selection of this blessing. If they have turn undead from another source, they simply gain an additional use and their elder evil epigone levels stack.

Lesser: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains the ability to use cure light wounds 1/day (CL equals elder evil epigone level). On subsequent selection of this blessing, this increases to Cure moderate wounds 2/day, and Cure serious wounds 3/day

Greater: Upon gaining this blessing, an elder evil epigone's type becomes aberration, gaining all the benefits of the aberration type. upon the second time they gain this blessing, and each time after, or if they already were an aberration, they gain +1 constitution at the cost of 1 point of charisma.

True: Upon gaining this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains the ability to corrupt hit dice using positive energy. Any healing spell they cast can exceed the target's hit points, and corrupts 1 hit die. Heightened healing spells corrupt 2 hit die instead. When all of a creature's hit die are corrupted, they become an aberration as described under twisted life (Elder evils, pg 98). Sentient creatures become progeny of Ragnorra.

Blessings of Sertrous:

Least: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil becomes able to 1/day reroll on a single bluff check. When doing so they take the higher result between the two. Upon subsequent selections of this blessing, increase the usage by +1/day.

Lesser: An elder evil epigone who selects this blessing gains the ability to, as a swift action 1/day, gain a bite attack that deals no damage. Instead, this bite attack afflicts the target with a poison that deals 1d3 Con damage. The victim of the poison can attempt a Fortitude save (DC 10 + Class level + Con) to over come the poison. Upon subsequent selections of this blessing, this blessing gains an additional use per day.

Greater: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone's presence bares a constant reminder of the evil they serve. Any creature within 60 feet of the elder evil epigone must attempt a will save (DC 10 + Class level + Cha mod) or develop a fear of snakes and serpentine creatures, in addition to the elder evil epigone himself.
As long a serpentine creature or the epigone is in sight, the victim is distracted and takes a -2 penalty on Will saving throws. It also takes a -2 penalty on attack rolls against these types of creatures. In the first round of combat against a serpentine creature or the epitome, the victim must make a Will save (DC 10 + Class level) or be paralyzed with fear for 1d6.
Heal or greater restoration can cure the affect if the caster succeeds a DC caster level check equivalent to the will save that afflicted the fear. Miracle or wish automatically cures the condition. A creature that succeeds on this save is immune to this blessing for 24 hours. Blindness is no protection against this blessing. This is a mind-affecting fear ability that does not affect chaotic evil outsiders, yuan-ti, or other elder evil epigone with this blessing.
With each subsequent selection of this blessing, increase the penalty on will saving throws and attack rolls by 1.

True: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains access to a single domain (besides Good or Law). They learn the spells from the chosen domain, along with the domain's granted power.

Least: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains the ability to summon a centipede swarm 1/day. This behaves exactly as the summon swarm spell. Upon subsequent selections of this blessing, increase the uses per day by 1.

Lesser: An elder evil epigone who selects this blessing gains the ability to create Spawn of Kyuss (MMII). This requires the elder evil epigone to touch the corpse they wish to raise as a Spawn of Kyuss, and they may only have one raised and under their control at a given time. Upon subsequent selections of this blessing, increase the number of spawn of kyuss the elder evil epigone can have under their control at any given time.

Greater: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains the ability to summon an Avolakia (MMII), as if by means of the summon monster spell. This Avolakia has Hit die equal to the elder evil epigone class level. Upon selecting this blessing a second time, the Avolakia can have a single level in sorcerer or cleric. With the third, the summoned avolakia has two class levels. You may consult with your DM to expand the selection of classes for the summoned Avolakia.

Bessings of Y'chak

Least: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]
Lesser: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]
Greater: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]
True: [WiP, Suggestions Welcome]

Blessings of Zargon:

Least: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains the ability to secrete a smelly slime that coats their body in a thin layer. Anyone within 5 feet must make a Fortitude saving throw (DC 10 + class level) or take a -1 circumstance penalty on attack rolls and skill checks, due to the outrageous odor of the slime layer. The DC increases by one for every time this blessing is selected.

Lesser: An elder evil epigone who selects this blessing gains the ability to secrete a caustic slime on their hands that deals 1d6 points of damage. Once it is secreted, the elder evil epigone can make an attack to get the corrosive slime to damage a foe, dealing normal unarmed damage as well as damage from the slime. Attacks using the slime do not provoke attacks of opportunity. With each subsequent selection of this blessing, increase the damage by 1d6.

Greater: Upon gaining this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains the ability to summon an ooze 1/day. They may summon any one ooze who's challenge rating does not exceed the elder evil epigone's class level. True: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone undergoes a horrific change. Their type become ooze and they gain the evil subtype. Unlike most oozes, their mental scores are unaffected by the change. They acquire a bite attack appropriate for their size, and targets of their bite attack must succeed on a fortitude save with a DC equal to the Elder evil epigone's character level + their constitution modifier. Should their target fail the save, they become polluted (elder evils, pg 147)

Special: Blessings of Homebrewed Elder Evils:

Special: Being apart from the rest of the elder evils, devotion to these elder evils stands apart from the rest. As such, elder evil epigones of all evils cannot select any of the blessings below.

Elder Evil Epigone's of Negative Zero (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=287271): Due to her nature, most elder epigone's of negative zero are manifesters. If a manifester enters this class, they gain Midnight Augmentation as a bonus feat and may be advanced by +1 level of existing spellcasting class as if it were +1 level of existing manifesting class.

Blessings of Negative Zero

Least: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone adds 1 point of essentia to their essentia pool. If they do not have an essentia pool, they gain one. Further more they learn 1 soulmeld of their choice. This soulmeld must be of the Crown charka. Any soulmeld they use from this point on gains the necrocarnum subtype. With each subsequent selection of this blessing, the elder evil epigone gains an additional point of essentia and an additional soulmeld known. The elder evil epigone's meldshaper level is equal to twice their elder epigone level.

Lesser: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone adds an additional point of essentia to their essentia pool. They learn any soulmeld of their choice, but it must be of the crown, brow, or shoulder chakra. In addition they gain open least chakra as a bonus feat. With each subsequent selection of this blessing, increase their essentia pool by 1, and increase their soulmelds known by 1.

Greater: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone adds an additional point of essentia to their essentia pool. With each subsequent selection of this blessing, increase their essentia pool by 1, and increase their soulmelds known by 1.

True: Upon selecting this blessing an elder evil epigone learns to draw upon the power of negative zero. They may cast Conjure Greater Midnight Construct once per encounter. The construct gains a copy of any one soulmeld you have shaped, and may assign essentia as part of the same action the Epigone uses to reassign his. Furthermore, the epigone's type becomes undead and they gain the incorporeal subtype as well as the undead meldshaper feat as a bonus feat. The elder evil epigone's essentia pool increases by 2.

Elder Evil Epigone's of Assatur (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75718)

Blessings of Assatur

Least: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone begins to radiate an aura out to 60ft. Spellcasters, other than the epigone, within range of this aura have to succeed at a concentration check (DC = Cha mod + [class level x 2]) when casting a spells. If they fail on the concentration check, the spell fails.

Lesser: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone learns to lace their spells with maddening energy. By increasing the spell level of a spell they cast by one, they may inflict damage equal to their charisma modifier (up to the spell level) wisdom damage to the target.

Greater: Upon selecting this blessing, an elder evil epigone gains the ability to use insanity 1/day as a spell-like ability. Upon use, the elder evil epigone may decide how long the effect is delayed by, with a minimum of 1 round and a maximum of 1 week.

There is another WotC Elder Evil here (http://web.archive.org/web/20081004185656/http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20080318a), if you wish to expand your class with it.

Oh, thank you. I'll go over it and think of how I could incorporate that Elder Evil into this PrC.

What does "epigone" mean?

Epigone basically means both/either "A Follower or Disciple" and/or "An inferior imitator".

1. Naming all blessings as "[X] Blessing of [Y]" is tedious.
Remove the "[X] Blessing of" and just name the blessings according to what they do.

2. "Bonus feat or +1 of existing spellcasting class" is a no brainer. Even when dealing with invocations.

1. I agree that it is a little tedious. Later I shall consider how to rename/reformat the blessings.

2. Yes, it is to a point, though why bring it up?

You could reformat the blessings by ordering them by Elder Evil instead of by Least/Lesser/Greater/True.

Anyway, I find this class an interesting choice for gishes, since it has 3/4 BAB and full casting progression, plus goodies. If you devote yourself to a particular Elder Evil, there's not even a real feat tax involved.

I'm left wondering why you'd ever not take this if you were an evil caster, beyond the DM not wanting to deal with Elder Evils in their game. The entry requirements are piddling, practically nothing if you devote yourself to a specific Elder Evil and use one of your bonus [Vile] feats on Master's Will. Sorcerer or Hexblade 5/Elder Evil Epigone of Negative Zero 10/Abjurant Champion 5 is a fargnargling great build, gives you AC out the wazoo with that incorporeality, and you make soulborns cry with the number of soulmelds you get. Just grab a Ghost Touch weapon if you wanna gish it up.

Thats a good idea. I'll reformat it in the near future.

And, I believe evil should get some goodies. I'd like to think about this PrC as setting things right when we consider the Disciple and Thalls of the BoVD.

2. Yes, it is to a point, though why bring it up?

If no one in their sound mind would ever take it (bonus feat), then there's really no point in putting that option on the table to begin with.
The only reason I could think of for choosing a feat over casting progresion is min-maxing exit card. This actually invites such strategy.

If someone were to have no levels in a spellcasting class or doesn't value their spellcasting, they might take the bonus feats over the spellcasting. There is no requirement for it within the PrC anyways.

Added sections for a number of elder evils i've recently become aware of.

Botothamogg (Him Who Watches from Beyond the Stars), Holashner (The Hunger Below), Piscaethces (The Blood Queen), Shothotugg (Eater of Worlds), and Y'chak (The Violet Flame). These are all elder evils from Lords of Madness that I hadn't noticed previously due to their brief mention under Aboleth Religion.

They do no have associated blessings yet, but that may be corrected at a latter date. Due to limited information on each, such a thing will be more difficult than for the elder evils listed in Elder Evils.
