Pokémon Thread XY: the Mega Thread!

Welcome to the center for Pokémon in the Playground! This Mega Thread increases its X and Y (http://www.pokemonxy.com/en-us/root/) significantly! In addition, it gains the 3DS Friend Code ability to keep track of other players with Pokémon X or Y!

WARNING: From here on out, there WILL be spoilers, and some people might forget to mark them properly! If you want to go into Pokémon X/Y unspoiled, consider leaving now!

These are friend codes (May be out of date/incomplete: If they are, post your new codes now and I'll fix them). For your friends. If you're not on here? It means you're not friendly. Or that for whatever reason your codes didn't get put here. If you're not here, just mention it whenever you can.

Friend codes, for the uninitiated, are how you connect with other players. The DS (and thus Gen IV & V games) uses a different Friend Code for each game you have, while the 3DS uses one Friend Code for the system.

So, you're tired of navigating a Pokemon thread where everyone uses fancy words and stuff? Well no worries! Here's a guide on... BREEDING FOR DUMMIES!

One of the first things to remember in breeding is that there are Natures that help and ones that hinder. For instance, a Special Attacker such as Mewtwo would be hindered by an Adamant nature, but helped in his stat growth by a Modest nature. To improve your chances for getting a particular Nature in a child Pokémon, use at least one parent with the Nature you want, and give it the Everstone. In Gen IV, the Everstone doesn't guarantee the inherited Nature, though it does in Gen V and VI.

Brilliant Spreadsheet for Growth (http://pokemon.marriland.com/statcalc_dp.php).

Some IVs (don't know what an IV is? Check the next spoiler box!) are randomly inherited from the parents. You can lock in a maximum of one IV by giving a parent the corresponding Power training item (Power Bracer for Attack, Power Lens for Special Attack, and so forth), or (starting with XY) randomly inherit 5 (instead of the normal 3) by holding the Destiny Knot. Use Flat Battles to determine the IVs of a hatched Pokémon, or if you only care about the highest IV and the sum of all of its IVs, you can take it to a guy who's in the lobby of either the Battle Tower or the Battle Subway in the DS games, depending on the generation, and in the Kiloude City Pokémon Center in XY. You're looking for them to judge it Relatively Superior overall and Can't Be Better in its best stat. The XY judge will also tell you about any really bad IVs the Pokémon has.

The third main thing with breeding is Egg Moves. Egg moves are moves the parent has, and passes down to a child. For instance, in my breeding of Chimchar, the egg moves are Grass Knot and Swords Dance, which are passed down to the child who gets said moves from the start. In order to pass on most Egg Moves, the father must know the move (Genderless Pokémon never learn Egg Moves). These include all of the moves that are listed as the child Pokémon's Egg Moves in a move list chart, as well as any compatible TMs or HMs. You can also pass on moves that the child would learn by level-up that aren't in those two lists--for these, both parents must know the move. In XY, some moves can be inherited from the mother...

The fourth and final thing to keep in mind are Hidden Abilities. Starting in Generation V, most Pokémon were assigned an additional ability that they could only get if you caught them under certain circumstances (the special Darmanitan in Desert Resort, or Pokémon found in hidden grottoes, the Dream World, or some in Friend Safaris). Some Hidden Abilities are highly sought-after, like Dragonite's Multiscale. If the mother has the Hidden Ability, the children will inherit it. The father can occasionally pass down the Hidden Ability if bred with a Ditto.

Dr. Strangemon or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Min-Max
Don't feel the need to bother with this stuff unless you're playing against humans or at one of those "Battle Whatever" places. You shouldn't need it for most of the game, and it can be kind of a pain.

First, the equations. These are how the game calculates the Pokémon's final stats.
HP = (IV + 2*Base + EV/4) * Level/100 + 10
Others = ((IV + 2*Base + EV/4) * Level/100 + 5) * Nature
So, at level 100, 1 IV or 4 EV raises a Pokémon's stat by 1 while a 1 point difference in Base stat is worth 2.

Nature
Most natures raise one stat and lower another, while some don't change any stats. A raised stat has a multiplier of 1.1 (or +10%), a lowered stat has a multiplier of 0.9 (or -10%), and a neutral stat has a multiplier of 1.0.

Base Stats (Base)
With a new generation just out, there's a lot of talk about finding out about a Pokémon's base stats. What are these, some of you ask? Well, they're modifiers to stats that a Pokémon gains just by being that kind of Pokémon. A (normal) Tyranitar has a base Attack of 135, a Mewtwo has 154 base Special Attack, and so on. When a Pokémon's stats change as it Mega Evolves or changes Form, it does so by changing the set of base stats it looks at. Otherwise, these base stats can't be changed (hence the "base"). At level 100, a Pokémon gets twice its Base stat to its final stats.

Individual Values (IV)
In addition to base stats, every Pokémon gets a bonus of 0-31 points applied to each stat. So a level 100 Tyranitar could have an attack stat of 273, or it could have a attack of 304. That bonus is the IV.
A Pokémon has its IVs generated the moment you meet it, or accept its egg, and there's no way to change them. You're stuck with what you've got. However, you can influence them a little, if you're willing to breed. Bred Pokémon don't randomly generate all their IVs, they inherit up to 3 from their parents. In XY, giving a parent the Destiny Knot causes them to inherit five random IVs instead. There's a few other ways of influencing IVs in bred Pokémon, which are explained in the breeding section.
In addition, in XY, some Pokémon are guaranteed to have some "perfect" (31) IVs. Pokémon found in the Friend Safari will have two random perfect IVs, while Pokémon that can't breed will have 3.

Effort Values (EV)
Every time you win a fight, your Pokémon get experience, but that's not all they get. Every Pokémon also gives out effort points. For every 4 effort points in a particular stat, your Pokémon gains 1 point in it. So if that Tyranitar from earlier with 304 attack had 4 attack EVs, his actual attack would be 305. If he had 252 attack EVs, it'd be 367. Sounds handy, but there are limits. You can't have more than 255 points in a single stat, and you can't have more than 510 EVs in total.

You'll see a lot of Pokémon with 252 attack/special attack EVs, 252 speed, and 4 HP, but there are a lot of ways to configure them. Defensive Pokémon will obviously focus on different things, Pokémon which use both physical and special attacks will need to split EVs between them or possibly sacrifice speed, and so on.

It's a tremendous pain to work out what EVs your Pokémon has (if you weren't keeping track, anyway), so you'll likely want to start with a Pokémon that you freshly hatched and work from there, though you don't have to. There are 6 berries that reduce EVs in a single stat each, so you can use those to reset your Pokémon and start from scratch. After that, just keep a careful record of what you fight, and only take down Pokémon that you know give you the EVs you want.

EV training takes a while, but there are a few ways you can speed it up. The first is an astonishingly rare status condition called Pokérus. Any Pokémon with Pokérus gets double EVs from fights, and will spread the Pokérus to any Pokémon in your party for the first 72 hours after it catches it. After those 72 hours it stops being contagious, but still gets double EVs. Pokérus has something like 1/20000 chance to appear on wild Pokemon, but with the magic of the internet I'm sure you can obtain it.

The second way to speed up EV training is through Power Items. If a Pokémon is holding the right item, they get bonus EVs from every fight. For example, a Pokémon holding a Power Lens will get 4 special attack EVs. A Pokémon holding a Power Anklet will get 4 speed EVs. A Pokémon holding a Macho Brace will just get double the EVs of whatever they're fighting. These bonuses are doubled if you have Pokérus.

The third way to speed up EVs is through vitamins. Each vitamin given to a Pokémon gives them +10 EVs in a certain stat, up to a limit of 100. 1 protein gives 10 attack EVs, 10 give 100. These unfortunately aren't doubled by Pokérus or items, so you'll have to pay for the full amount. Luckily money is easy to come by in these games.

Just as an example, I'll show how I EV'd my Gengar.
First, I gave him 10 calcium, and 10 carbos, so 100 special attack and 100 speed already.
After that, I gave him Pokérus and a lucky egg, got him to meet a Floatzel (2 speed EVs, doubled to 4 because of Pokérus), and then sent out my Weezing to explode on it so Gengar could get all the experience, for a higher level and 100 special attack, 104 speed.
After that, I gave him a Power Lens, flew over to the Old Chateau, and killed 15 Gastly (1 special attack from Gastly, 4 from the lens, doubled to 10 from Pokérus) for 150 special attack EVs, bringing my total to 250 special attack, 104 speed.
After that I equipped a power anklet and killed one more Gastly (1 special attack from Gastly, 4 speed from the anklet, doubled to 2 and 8 from Pokérus), meaning Gengar had 252 attack, and 112 speed.
Leaving the anklet equipped, I flew to Route 201, and killed 14 Starly (1 speed from Starly, 4 from the anklet, meaning 10 speed per starly thanks to Pokérus), for a total of 252 attack, 252 speed.
All that was left after that was to kill a Bidoof with a Power Weight (1 HP from Bidoof, 4 from the Weight, 10 thanks to Pokerus, although I only gained 6 points because I hit the EV cap), leaving my Gengar with 252 special attack EVs, 252 Speed, and 4 HP, just how I wanted him.
Roughly an hour's work, and one Pokemon down.

In XY, there's an additional method of EV training, which doesn't involve beating up wild Pokémon, but you instead play minigames (called Super Training) with the Pokémon. This lets you choose which stat you'll train, and awards you 4 EVs per difficulty level (so +4 for level 1, +12 for level 3). In addition, you may gain special training bags that can make further Super Training easier, reset your EVs entirely, or other effects. The training system also displays your earned EVs graphically (but not numerically), making it somewhat easier to keep track of a Pokémon's EVs.
tl;dr: The simplified version of EVs/IVs - EVs are gained by fighting other Pokémon. They vary by the Pokémon defeated. They increase your stats for every 4 gained. IVs are inherent to a Pokémon. They increase stats for every point possessed, and range from 0 to 31. EVs have to be manually tracked or else removed entirely with certain berries. IVs can be checked by knowing the EVs of a Pokémon and then plugging its stats into an IV calculator. The higher the Pokémon's level, the more accurate; level 100 wifi battles provide maximum accuracy.

Now, you might ask, "Mando Knight, how do you get those accented e's?" On a PC, change your keyboard layout to US-International, and press 'e. For some versions of Windows, if you don't want the US-International keyboard on all the time, you can also have it switch between different registered keyboards with a press of Ctrl+Shift. You can also copy-paste them from someone else's posts. Or the thread title.

The only reason I clicked on this thread was to say that. :smallamused: I'm not even sure how XY was arrived at; if he was going in letter order it would be XW. At any rate, you're looking for XVI.

It was a jab at a certain something (http://www.pokemonxy.com/en-us/) that is in the process of being officially released.

Given schedule issues, looks like it'll take until monday or tuesday for me to get a hold of a copy..
On the bright side, I should be able to get it this month =D.

I'm planning to give a quasi(boxed instead of releasing, and accepting npc gift pokemon) Nuzlocke a try, since, well, I've never tried one.
Given that.. How is the Chespin line looking so far? I'd been stuck between the three lines, but had started to drift towards Chespin once Chesnaught had been revealed.

Still don't know which version I'll be getting, and since I don't feel like purchasing it from the eShop, I'm probably going to have to wait until Wednesday because the stores in my area don't shelf games until Tuesday.

Friend Safari looks promising (Wild starters! Possibly with hidden abilities!), but requires people to have friends.

Friends who share 3DS codes. Possibly with an internet forum that has a dedicated thread for Pokémon discussion and a ready-to-be-filled catalog of such codes. And heavy-handed "hints" about such things. :smalltongue:

:smallconfused: But why would you want to share codes on GameFAQs when the GitP community is so much more cozy? :smalltongue:

My 3DS' phone number is 2234-7142-0224. I think TheMageKing's is 3523-2099-2001, but he apparently never added me as a friend.

Welp I caved in and got X today with Y coming to me in the mail.

The number of mons in the first few areas is quite large imo and I got a pikachu. It does indeed say Pikachu.

I also beat the first Gym... Too easy imo. But then I did grow up with Brock and Charmander on my first ever pokemon play trhough...

The game is very pretty and thankfully none of the tunes so far grate on my ears.

Oh and friend codes... I'll check that when I get back home.

From what we have seen, here's what I'd guess exist somewhere in-game:

Mega Dragonite (from Dragonitite?): most likely Dragon/Flying, but if there's going to be a Dragon/Fairy in XY, Mega Dragonite would be it.
Mega Salamence/Metagross/Hydreigon (all of these mostly because of the presence of Mega Garchomp and Mega Tyranitar)

Mega Gallade (as a counterpart to Mega Gardevoir)

Mega Kyurem B/W (as a possible change to how Black/White Kyurem is obtained, using a Mega Stone instead of DNA Splicers. Base Stats would probably be altered in this case)
Mega Articuno/Moltres/Zapdos (they wander...)

And as possibilities for distribution-only: Mega all-the-other-starters

No listed CPP option, and I have an XL anyway (my normal 3DS broke and got replaced).

Edit: And here I was hoping Kid Icarus: Uprising would kick off a trend of ridiculously customizable controls. Srsly, C-pad, D-pad, ABXY, and touchscreen could all be remapped to the various control options. It was even better than Goldeneye's "Hey, figure out what name we used maps to what control scheme."

Mando Knight

Not with 100% accuracy, but at level 10 a Pokémon can have its stats nudged up by a few points depending on the IV, and the base stats will determine what IV range that nudge corresponds to.

This is the new Stealth Rocks.

Nah, Sticky Web probably has terrible distribution (rather than being on almost every single blasted Ground, Rock, or Steel type) and won't turn 2HKOs into OHKOs.

It does seriously hinder revenge killers, but if it turns out to be the new Stealth Rocks, then you could almost guarantee that both sides will have the trap up... which negates its usefulness.

I see this as a buff to Trick Room and maybe a nerf to Hyper Offense teams (though since they usually run a spinner, it may not affect them as much).

I think Galvantula will get this attack and maybe Forretress and you have two really good Pokemon there that will ensure this move will be used in the metagame.

Mando Knight
2013-10-12, 02:25 PM
It'll be used, no doubt, and I agree that Forretress may get it, but I don't think it'll be the new Stealth Rock. Part of the problem with it is that it won't deal any damage or inflict status conditions, which can stick with a Pokémon a little longer than what it takes to put in your spinner to get rid of the trap.

The Speed debuff is good, but I don't think it'll be widely available enough or its effect permanent enough to call it the "new Stealth Rocks." On par with Spikes or Toxic Spikes, though? Definitely. It'll be used just enough to force people to take it into consideration, but if it's used too much it'll actually defeat itself (if both sides are at -1 Speed, then there's really no change), unlike Stealth Rocks (which again turns some 2HKOs into OHKOs and completely hedges out some Pokémon based on their typing).

If it's not 95% accurate, what's the point? There's a whole lot of room for error at level 10.

ShinyRocks
2013-10-12, 02:34 PM
These are interesting:

Parting Shot [Dark] - With a parting threat, the user lowers the target's Attack and Sp. Atk stats. Then it switches with a party Pokémon.

Flying Press [Fighting] Power 80 Accuracy 95 The user dives down onto the target from the sky. This move is Fighting and Flying type simultaneously.

Boomburst [Normal] Power 140 Accuracy 100 The user attacks everything around it with the destructive power of a terrible, explosive sound.
Something that powerful and accurate feels like it should have a downside. Recoil or a recharge or something.

Powder [Bug] The user covers the target in a powder that explodes and damages the target if it uses a Fire-type move.
Fast bugs could damage Fire types. Also, it just makes me laugh. Booom!

Unless it allows you to hit a switch in twice or a revenger once, in which case it will inflict dramatically more damage than Stealth Rock, turning 2HKOs into 1HKOs in the most literal sense possible.

Barring absolutely awful distribution (for example, being exclusive to Ariados), I see little reason for an offensive team to not run it.

There's a lot of variety with 5-6 species of mon in every area.

You can also do fire mono challenges very easy this gen: Torchik, Charmander, Fenekin, Pyroar, That flame bird that looks awesome but I forget it's name atm.

Also I will add everyone new when I get back home.

So according to Serebii males can pass on hidden abilities too.

I'm not too far in still, but I'm inclined to say easier but less hand holdy than last generation. With Exp All and the way experience is distributed, I haven't had much of a reason to battle with anything other than my Starter, nor have I had any reason to use potions. And, even so, because of that first reason, it's safer, easier, and faster to build up benched pokemon than ever.

The link contains a list of new moves... Electrify on Jolteon basically means that volt absorb jolteon never takes damage from anything that isn't a ground type...Though not broken it does make it much safe for Jolteon to be out and increases its utility from being just a scout./sniper...

I wonder if it works on toxic/leech seed...hmmm...

No, Rock/Ice is kinda bad with x2 weakness to Grass, Water, Ground, Rock, and a x4 weakness to Fighting and Steel. It's only resistances are Normal, Ice, and Flying. Decent STABs but not good on the defense.

Yeah... Ice is the least resistant type in the game (at least Normal is immune to something!), and Rock is pummeled by a vast array of attack types (the only really common one it resists is Fire, which in turn is negated by Ice's weakness to it, though the Normal resistance is sometimes handy). Rock/Ice is one of the weaker types in the game.

It also resists Poison, but if you're using Rock/Ice as a switch in to cover for the also-weak-to-Poison Fairy type, you'd better be sure it's not a Steel attack instead.

Yeah, I'm kinda regretting picking the Sail Fossil, here. I mean, I was kinda excited when I found out how easy it was to get a BoltBeam setup on it, but as far as I've played I have seen barely any Special Attack TMs otherwise. And, um... I'm having trouble coming up with a way to use it's ability outside of Hyper Beam, which... Really doesn't strike me as a good idea.

That said, it evolves by level up at night apparently, and I hit its level-up level just as morning came, so maybe this evening I'll have a solid increase in stats to return to.

So, 6 badges in and I'm still asking myself...
That Gym Leader whose last pokemon was a Hawlucha? That thing doesn't have a wide natural moveset, does it? I mean, it got up 6 Hone Claws and couldn't touch the ghost. :smalltongue:

Fairy type attacks are more and more stupid.

Disarming Voice PP15 BP40 -- Letting out a charming cry, the user does emotional damage to opposing Pokémon. This attack never misses.

Play Rough PP10 BP90 ACC90 The user plays rough with the target and attacks it. This may also lower the target's Attack stat.

I just finished the Laverre gym this morning, I'm really loving this game so far, havent enjoyed a pkmn game since sinnoh, so I was worried.

Amie and super training are great, they've got me all attached to my team and I'm using mons I never would have used or stuck with before.

Got Sylveon, Lucario, Talonflame, Dedenne and Delcatty

Delcatty's an odd one..I just caught the skitty as a filler at the time, I love skitty but I didnt expect to keep using it, but again, attached to it now. It's ability changes all moves to normal type? I dunno how to feel about that, I mean I lose type advantages, but then I get stab I think, and I guess I can just fill it up with the strongest of strong?

Literally all I'm doing is going through the grass until I feel like I've caught everything there. Competitively speaking (and I use that term for lack of a more accurate one), Normalize's use is pretty much limited to landing Thunder Wave on Ground types. It's difficult to justify using other stronger attacks against Return's 100% accuracy, 102 power, and physical-stat nature. Maybe you could use it to freeze pokemon, but that's really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Oh, I will point out, this isn't competitive. What I use in the single player game is generally seperate to what I use for the multiplayer. I love my delcatty but she doesnt see use in any of the random battles people keep trying to initiate with me. Sylveon on the other hand...

Okay finished up Gym 3 and the stuff after

Meaning I just did my first Mega Evolution. This prompted me to go look up what megas there were. Come to find out, whoops no new pokemon get mega evos. This screws up my plans for brand new pokemon early, so I'm going to cheat and pull in one single old pokemon who can mega evolve to work with my team of new pokemon.

The question is, which one?

Current Team:
Delphox
Vivillon
Duoblade
Pangoro
Diggersby
Tyrunt

Out of those, I'm pretty attatched to Tyrunt, Duoblade, and Pangoro, and generally like keeping my starter around until finishing the elite 4. So out of those four I have Fire, Psychic, Steel, Ghost, Dark, Fighting, Rock, and Dragon covered. And those four lean pretty heavily towards physical damage overall (Delphox is my only special attacker, and I was lucky enough to pull a negative special attack nature on him).

So I guess what I'm looking for is suggestions for those last two slots where Vivillon and Diggersby currently are to both round out the team and get me access to a mega evo. Any thoughts?

Actually, they started with final stages and Megas (which are easier to calculate because of how they work).

Maybe it's only whatever Pokemon that has a "hover" animation (barring fish) that can participate. Since both Doduo and Farfetch'd are standing and not flying during battles, they cannot participate.

And Hawlucha's flying type is more based on the fact that luchadors tend to do a lot of jumping around, not actual flying. So I don't see a big deal with them being unable to do sky battles.

It appears that if you're in the area a pokemon appears, the Pokedex is slightly more accurate, and tells you what sort of area you have to be in in order to find that pokemon - grass, sea, etc.

I think it affects friend safari later on. I dont understand it since I havent reached it, but sounds like each friend is assigned a type, and for each friend you have registered, more pokemon of their 'type' can appear there, including some not native to kalos. Hopefully this means, barring legendaries and version exclusives, we can potentially catch everything in this game with luck.

Well, there's the Friend Safari, which is like a new Safari Zone based on your registered friends.

Then there's O-Powers - small boosts you can give to people during gameplay - to catch rate, stats, etc. I'm finding it really nice to be able to give the Prophet (my spouse) some O-Power help, since the Prophet is an eternal newbie with pokemon who can never quite remember the mechanics enough to get by without my help.

And it makes trading easier.

I'm adding you. My info is on the first page in the 3DS friend codes list, and I've added everyone there so far.

And the Prophet's Friend Code is 3437-3875-9174. I'll be getting that into the first post list as well.

When I see you online, I'll drop you some O-Powers.

It has the normal tall grass that you can find pokemon in, but if you want Audino or Venipede, that won't cut it. On the main route, there are bushes lining the way up to the palace. Three of these bushes are larger than the others - one on the left and two on the right. It appears that each time you enter the route, one of these bushes is selected at random and has either a Venipede or Audino in it. You move right next to this bush and the pokemon jumps out for a battle. I've only ever had one such battle each time I enter the route, so you'll have to leave and re-enter in order for the encounter to respawn.

So, open question; I'm currently running a nuzlocke of X, and one of my rules is that pokemon that are not randomly generated are exempted from the "only catch the first pokemon in an area" rule. It just came to my attention that the first wild Pokemon that one encounters in the game is scripted to be a pidgey.

So, what I'm asking is:

Is the first Pokemon encountered actually scripted to be a pidgey or was I given false information?
Because I captured that Pokemon without knowledge that it was scripted, would anyone say that I can go back and catch a new pokemon there?

1: Capture only the first Pokemon encountered in a given area.
1a: "Shiny" pokemon are exempt.
1a(I): "area" is defined as much by common sense as the name of the area.
1b: If the first pokémon encountered in a given area is of a species already caught, it may be chosen to not count as a pokémon encountered for the purposes of this rule.
1b(I): For the purposes of this rule, the entire species is counted.
1c: Pokemon gained through trades, or non-random generation are exempt.
1c(I): Pokemon may not be captured for the purpose of trading them.
1d: The player starts with a "bye". They may use this to capture a Pokemon that would otherwise defy any rules on capture.
1d(I): At any point when the player gains possession of a Master Ball from an NPC, they are granted an additional "bye". The Master Ball in question does NOT need to be used to use it.
1f: None of the rules or limitations on capturing Pokemon are in affect until such time as the player is capable of buying pokeballs and capturing pokemon.

2: If a Pokemon faints, it is dead. It can no longer be used in the run for any reason.
2a: This rule is not in affect until the player has the ability to capture Pokemon.

Edit: By the way, apparently the play with your pokemon minigame? Actually worth it. Benefits spoilered in case anyone wants to be surprised.

Once you max out affection, you get a bunch of little perks. Increased crit chance. Chance to shrug off status effects. Chance to ignore stat lowering. Boosted exp. Increased evasion. Random focus band effect.

Totally worth investing an hour or two on any pokemon you plan on using to do it

Edit: Can anyone explain something with hidden abilities to me? I get that they're rarer, but what about pokemon that have different abilities when they evolve. For example, eevee and it's evolutions. If I wanted, say, sylveon with a hidden ability, how would I do that? Is it random when it evolves? Do they get it if it had it's hidden ability as an eevee? You need the eevee to have it's hidden ability in order for sylveon to have it. Pokemon with multiple abilities have ability slots - slot one rhyhorn becomes slot one rhydon becomes slot one rhyperior (even if the ability changes during that transition), for instance.

From what I've been able to pick up (this may change during the transition to Gen 6) Espeon should absolutely use its hidden ability (Magic Bounce), and Vaporeon, Leafeon, and Flareon all do fairly well with them as well, depending on the role you want them to fill.

Is there something wrong with Return? That's generally the go-to normal type move, I can't imagine making it fairy type with STAB making it worse.

The problem with Return is that its a physical type move, and Sylveon's base attack is terrible.

Well. The Super Training thing is stupid - forcing you to put +4 Defense EVs without warning.

On another note, is there any easy way to remove EVs this gen? Also, does the new Exp. All give EVs to everyone?

I've picked my Theme Team: Anyone with similarities to the evolution chain of the first non-scripted non-generic-rodent-or-bird I get.

I got a Scatterbug, so the rest of my team has to have some similarity to it or the rest of its chain. That's...

Large round head/general body shape
Linear mostly-limbless body
Gray
A few hairs or hairlike things or antennae
Buck tooth
Immobile limbless thing
Cocooned
Large wings

I'm not sure how well this will turn out. Luckily, Chespin qualifies for the first , fourth, and fifth points, and hopefully will continue to qualify somehow as it levels.

You can occasionally get reset bags in super training that lets you reset EVs. Also supertraining regimens go up to lvl 3, 3rd lvl ones give 12 EVs per completion and seem to award better bags on average

It has- slightly- for me, too. But still. Any previous game, you can look at it and see instantly that it's a Pokemon game. Not this one. :smallfrown:

Really now? Show someone who'd only ever played Gen I or II Gen V and they probably wouldn't, assuming you mean out of battle. In battle is more iffy, but still.

Me, too. You're not alone. I spent 2 hours trying to catch a Riolu, not realizing you get a Lucario later.

I just today got to the 5th gym.

Hello everyone! I mostly lurk but I have decided to join the ranks of the playgrounders playing the new pokemon games! I will add everyone in the list, and my Friend Code is 0645-6906-6047. Also I have played way to much of this game. Already became the champion. It was way to easy. Didn't have nearly as much punch as Ghetsis did, now that was a good battle to end things on.

Also on the story if anyone else has finished it:

Did anyone else feel like it was kind of rushed? It was like the whole game you fought Team Flare maybe 3 times before they launched the end of the world plot. Just didn't seem like enough build up to me. Having all three boss fights be within two hours of each other didn't help either. For me it just lacked all punch because it went from Team Flare is doing random stuff to destroy everyone really quickly with not enough gradients in between to prevent it from feeling like a massive jump. Maybe the relatively good stories of fifth generation have just spoiled me. Any thoughts on this?

Besides that I love every bit of this game. The online is fantastically done and the ability to use restricted networks finally makes things a lot easier. The art looks great, the music sounds fantastic, and the game has some of the best writing of any pokemon game. No other game had NPCs that made me laugh as much as this one did. Overall one of my favorite pokemon games, if not my favorite, easily.

What I have discovered is that enemy trainers are really bad at using physical attacks on my Florges. This is relevant because while its Sp. Def is titanic, its Def is not. I've managed to crush altogether too many supposedly challenging trainers when they insist on using Blizzard or Thunder and doing minimal damage, while I spam Calm Mind and obliterate them.

Um What? I only have 4 badges, and fly as a field move kicked in for me after my most recent one. In fact I specifically rushed forward to get the 4th badge for access to fly.

I'm wondering whether Nuzzle is likely to supplant Thunder Wave on movesets- considering that any damage combined with guaranteed paralysis has to be better than no damage at all...

Maybe there's one in there that's loose, but the one in the Glittering Cave you need Rock Smash for. I suppose I'll be to Terminus soon though.

Also, derp on the Fly thing. I totally can, I was being stupid.

No, or at least not in OU, because it seems to be limited to Pikachu, Plusle, Minun, Pacharisu, Emolga, and Dedenne. Maybe if it can be bred on to something that can use it, but that'd be surprising.

EDIT: Just got to Dendemille Town in my Nuzlocke. Things are running smoothly thus far

The Team:
Mars the Ampharos (Lv. 45)
Arthur the Doublade (Lv. 48)
Tre the Vivillon (Lv. 47)
Glenn the Greninja (Lv. 47)
Los Pollos the Hawlucha (Lv. 48)
Brunhilde the Venusaur (Lv. 48)

The Boxed:
Fluffles the Swirlix (Lv. 14)
Simon the Inkay (Lv. 14)
Toni the Helioptile (Lv. 16)
Titania the Tyrunt (Lv. 23)
Matteo the Dedenne (Lv. 21)
Dwayne the Carbink (Lv. 23)
Tomas the Lucario (Lv. 32)
Goomba the Goomy (Lv. 32)
Alohamora the Klefki (Lv. 35)

The Deceased:
Lala the Bunnelby (Lv. 4 to 16)
Leila the Litleo (Lv. 5 to 23)
Bree the Floette (Lv. 4 to 23)

Speaking of, what is with the continued pikachu clones in every new set of pokemon? And why can we never get one that is remotely useful.

I'd trade a lot for a good electric pokemon, but 90% of what we get seems to be crappy rats with mediocre stats and stagnant movepools.

Hey guys, I have Y and am enjoying it very much. My 3ds friend code is
3668-7804-7430
First starter - Froakie
Second starter - Charmander

Also, do you remember in black 2 and white 2 how the pokedex had a list of routes and told you when you found all pokemon on that route? Does that exist in this game? If not, what does the pokeradar do. I have heard of it and it sounds a lot like the route list but I'm not sure. Any help would be much appreciated thank you :)

I would like a lot of friends on the game because I think O-powers are just amazing so please PM me if you are interested in joining me thanks.

So ... Can we speculate all the Mega Evolutions have been found at this point?

EDIT: Or that any Pokemon capable of Mega Evolution can? (E.g: A Blaziken imported from B/W/2 can Mega Evolve if it's holing Blazikenite, it's not just the event one.)

You can speculate, but it's still probable that there's Mega Stones still hidden in the data somewhere... all of which we can't get at because no one's decrypted Pokémon X/Y yet.

Just finished the 5th badge, the Professor sent a hologram thing saying to meet him at a cafe near the pokemon center. I finally found the pokemon center, but wandering around I've found half a dozen cafes, but haven't found him.

Anyone able to help out with where to go here?

Look for the cafe near the Gym with a Team Flare grunt outside. It's red and pretty easy to spot. If you can't find it, pay $1500 to take a cab.

I tried the cab thing but couldn't remember the name of the place, which makes them fairly useless. It'd be nice to be able to rewatch a holo you've been sent but...

If I recall correctly, there's an NPC in the endgame who gives you one of those 'once a day show me X pokemon' for megas, so it seems reasonable to guess that we've found every one not deliberately hidden by the designers.

Went to Glittering Cave looking for the alleged duskstone. I'm thinking it must just be a rare drop from breaking boulders in general, not anything actually hidden there, cause I've wandered through that place with my dowsing machine out with no luck.

It is a convenient place for breaking rocks because there's like 8 of them in a relatively small area.

I picked up an Old Amber and a half dozen hard stones. I heard some people are finding helix fossils in there, but I didn't feel like farming the room another two dozen times, I'll wait for the guaranteed one in the other cave.
