Surely, you can't be serious? That little line is a throwaway noodle incident to flesh things out!

Maybe, or maybe not.

Tarquin has been sitting on that favour for 12 years (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0924.html).

Nale has been wanting to kill Malack since he was 9 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0906.html).

Nale is 21 (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0258.html).

21-9= 12

:elan: Dun Dun Dun!

Maybe it means something, maybe it doesn't. But it is too much of a coincidence to ignore.

Four lines in your calculation.

12/4=3

Half Life 3 Confirmed.

 Holy hell that was so much funnier than it should have be.

Half Life 3 Confirmed.

Hopefully worth the weight.

Also, I like this theory very much.

Also, 21 is 12 BACKWARDS. Number 12 is a great number for this comic. Symbolycal one. But nevertheless - neat theory.

Don't you think Nale has had a birthday since then?

Don't you think Nale has had a birthday since then? That doesn't matter that much. It's not like Laurin meant it was exactly twelve years.

I think the references to what happened 12 years ago, when Nale was 9 years old, is just a trick to make us buy a prequel book about Nale and Tarquin and the others, whenever it is published.
I also think the trick is working.

There are six members in the Order.

12/6 = 2

Half-Life 2 confirmed. No, wait. What?

I think you're onto something, but not what you think you are.

I think it just means that two otherwise unrelated things took place around the same time. Which, if you were writing a prequel book that potentially spanned decades, would make sense to only deal with 'set-pieces' at certain points in time.

One point in the past is going to be 2 years ago, when Nale tried to overthrow the Empire of blood. Probably the next significant period previous to that was 10 years prior, when a bunch of things probably happened in Nale's life.

Oh, like we need to be tricked into it.

That gives me a thought. Maybe Tarquin was away doing Miron's favour, meaning Nale was alone with Malack. Then Nale inadvertently (or not) found out Malack was a vampire. Maybe he saw it. That would scare a 9 year old.

The 12 Comic is the first time Nale appears. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0012.html) Did I have you going for a second? :D

I like the OP's theory, I think it's more than a numerical coincidence and hints at a story I'd like to read :nale:

A lot of stuff is being hinted at happening 12 years ago with this bunch of people. List me in the camp of those who think it's going to be used in a book about the group.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who noticed the suspiciously similar timing. I really want to find out what would make 9-year-old Nale want to murder Malack so badly. What kind of personal favor someone like Miron would ask of Tarquin would be interesting, too.

I don't get it, since OOTS are discussing the definition of 'level', with no sign of Nale..

I'm just checking your math on that. Yes, I got the same thing.

Good call I guess. But I don't really get what the reason for the favour may be.

Miron ate the last slice of cake, but Tarquin told Nale that Malack did it.

And thus did a little piece of cake cause the murder of two poor innocent child vampires, a civil war, Nale's banishment and the persecution of the OOTS by the Linear Guild, Malack's untimely death and ultimately to the death of Nale himself and his accomplice Z'zditri. Do not trust the cake! It is lying!

Miron also keeps the scarf on even while indoors to hide the crumbs and frosting on his mouth.

There is 12 signs in western zodiac. There is also 12 signs in chinese zodiac, which is, according to the comic (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0407.html), represented by southern pantheon of gods.
There is 9 alignments, which is, according to the comic (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0548.html), is same numbered as the sides on this conflict.
There is 21 numbered tarot cards in major arcana (http://taroticallyspeaking.files.wordpress.com/2007/03/major-arcana.jpg), and a card (THE FOOL) with no number, because 0 doesn't really count, even though it should. Similarly, Ophiuchus doesn't count as a sign, even though it should...

Coincidence? I think NOT.

There are 12 pencils and 9 pens in my writing utensil cup on my desk. It has been 2 months and 1 day since my birthday, and on my next one I will turn 21.

Edit: Less Sarcastic version: I hate this trope (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/EveryoneIsJesusInPurgatory). Stop trying to use it.

Always check for white text. This, for example.
