Homunculus Survival Method?

Homunculi die when their master dies.
The Rod of Construct Control causes it's user to be treated as a Construct's creator.

Would a Homunculus (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/homunculus.htm) stolen with a Rod of Construct Control (AaEG) survive the death of it's original controller??

If the above doesn't work, is there any other way to have a Homunculus survive it's master's demise?

Some fluff says that an homunculus can survive its master's destruction, but it often goes insane.
