How does updraft (SpC) work?

How quickly do you fall back down when you use updraft? It says it's a swift action spell, and its instantaneous. It says you "gently float back down" after you gain all the height, but what does that mean? Since the magic is gone as per instantaneous spells, do you technically fall back down in the same swift action? That seems to make the spell almost useless, unless you need to scale a cliff really fast. What do you guys think?

It says you fall slowly back down. I picture back in the EQ days and in WoW when you cast levitate and fall off objects

Maybe you could houserule it to work like a feather fall.

I'd have it work like a dispelled Fly spell.
