View Full Version : Most optimized level 2 you can think of?

I want to know what is the highest optimized level 2 that you can think of. Normally, I would just take 2 levels of monk or fighter and vow of poverty to get the ball rolling,
but it is hard to make good characters at level 2 since so many things are level dependent and/or based on BAB.

The rules I am using are thus:
No Gestalt
Start with 5000gp
Only 2 levels
Any splat-books that are official WotC material can be used.
(This means you can use flaws and traits)
Lvl Adjustment no higher than +1 (Meaning you can't be some crazy jungle giant/ half-dragon / mindflayer / lich) <EDIT

(I hope you like a challenge Tippy)

I can get to about a 52 str, 40 con on a raging barbarian. Assume 12hp+6hp at level 2, 48 hp. Im sure people will beat me but thats my best

Also, i assumed roll of 18/16 in stats

For damage, I would take an orc barbarian with a magic greatsword, power attack, Improved initiative, the works. Then, charge up to 80 feet. 2d6+lots damage should probably send most people running in the direction of the nearest not-where-my-orc-is.

Edit: Barbarian'd. :p

Assuming everything you fight is also around l2/CR2? I'd probably just go wizard with high int and sleep (sorc with high cha and sleep may be better, actually), probably taking feats based around making my save DC higher and maybe improved initiative. Unless you're playing against l2 enemies that are optimized around high will saves, you pretty much have a spammable "win encounter" button. Granted you'll fall off hard later once enchantments in general and sleep in particular stop being useful, and if you're getting stuff with more than 4HD thrown at you regularly at level 2 it's just flat out not going to work for you, but in terms of fighting things that you're "supposed" to fight at this level (or even most high op l2 PCs) a high DC sleep is pretty much gamebreakingly powerful.

A Sorcerer with the Animal Companion ACF (UA)
Get a Riding Dog animal companion, get him a good armor (note that he's not proficient in any armor, so there better be no ACP!)
Choose Enlarge Person and Grease as your spells known. Due to a RAW quirk, you can use Enlarge Person on your animal companion.

Be a Spellscale to maximize save DCs and spells per day. Take Improved Initiative as your only feat. Stay back and cast Grease and send your (large!) dog into people's faces.

Venerable (+1 LA Con-boosting template of your choice-- I like Mineral Warrior (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20031003e) for the defenses) Elan with 17+ Con, Mind over Body and Festering Anger. Every day, voluntarily fail the save to take 1d3 Con damage, gain +2 Strength, and heal 1+Con mod points of ability damage. With 17 Con, the minimum you'll be dropped to is 14, still enough to heal 3 points of damage. With a thousand years of life before rolling for maximum age, you'll wind up with a Strength bonus of +730,000.

For class, let's go with Whirling Frenzy Lion Totem Barbarian. Wield two weapons-- out attack bonus will be so high we don't even need the feat. That gives us 3 attacks on a charge, for a grand total of 2.19 million damage, plus your weapon damage dice.

And as for utility... I can jump over a hundred miles, climb perfectly flat ceilings, and swim up waterfalls. I can burst down any barrier in my path. I don't even want to speculate on how much I can lift. Probably several castle's worth... No wait, yes I do. If my math is correct, that's over 10^43950 tons. Now how do I qualify for Hulking Hurler...

EDIT: Disregard all of the above. Elans no longer have a maximum age, so your Strength can be arbitrarily high. Every year of infection gives you +730 Strength, after all...

Although you can do Pun-Pun at level 1. Pun-Pun is always the answer to "most optimized."

Sorry, you lost me there. How?

Easily, look at any number of con boosting templates you wish to (Lolth touched buys you 6)

I'm going to make an edit on my first post look for it in a few minutes.

EDIT: Also yes, diplomancer would probably be the best choice but that's no fun at all. Any other ideas?

Generalist High Elf Wizard with Huming bird familiar and Improved initiative as feat. Buy a Necklace of Fireballs Type 3 (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/magicItems/wondrousItems.htm#necklaceofFireballs)

+12 to init without Dex.

Or : Strongheart halfling wizard with fell drain and easy metamagic fell drain. Use Sonic Snap with fell drain on you 2 consecutive times, Now you are a Wright (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/wight.htm), which is quite good in term of HPs and Natural attack for a second level character.

Well, you do have Candle of Invocation-loops available through Pazuzu so Paladin or Commoner 1 with sufficient K: Religion. These naturally lead to Pun-Pun or really anything (since infinite Wishes) so yeah.

That's of course too easy and fairly pointless. Outside that, you could get quite a few feats provided sufficient wealth for Dark Chaos Shuffle through VoP+Elf+high feat class levels which would lead to 9th level spells but it's not a really interesting answer either. Then there's Dragonsblood Pool + Sanctum Spell to get at least effective 3rd level slots, though of course wealth is again a problem so you'll have to circumvent it somehow.

For things that don't involve stupidity, I suppose some manner of a Wizard 1/Cleric 1 with Precocious Apprentice. Precocious Apprentice works with Focused Specialist so that's a decent way to get 2nd level slots though you do need to buy the spells for your book. Wizard 1/Druid 1 would be pretty good, though the MAD would be annoying.

Whirling Frenzy Barbarian 1/Cloistered Cleric 1 trading some stuff for Devotions (Law Devotion, perhaps Travel Devotion) would be pretty solid on the physical front.

EDIT: WTF, 5k? You can do anything with that. I thought going by default WBL. Well, nevermind the objections in the second paragraph, you can just straight-up do whatever you want.
