You would not have thought a simple job like getting a decent case for your 3DS XL would have been so difficult...

The last two consoles I bought - my GBA and my DS Lite, I got the Pokemon cases/cover/whatever you want to call 'em. Things that had a plastic dohickey inside 'em, so that you slotted your console in the case and could play in in situ. Like this (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-DS-Pokemon-Pearl-Version-Carry-Case-Storage-2007-ALS-Industries-storage-/171141628860#ht_86wt_932) (though mine is actually the Diamond case).

When I bought my 3DS XL and looked for a case, I found nothing remotely similar. I bought a cheap case in the interim - the incredible annoyance of which taking it in and out of the straps when I want to use it was particualry marked while I was was using both consoles to download a mystery gift from my local GAME Store via wi-fi: the 3DS XL case in completely useles once you've taken the 3DS out, meaning I had another thing to juggle, while my DS lite was not problem at all. I held out hope, then, that when the X and Y cases came out, they would do the same.

Apparently not.

This is apparently a thought that, despite being fairly commonplace in previous console generations, has all but completely bypassed intelligence of the current one.

I have so far found ONE CASE (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Nintendo-3DS-XL-BLACK-Flip-and-Play-Case-Protector-Cover-with-free-stylus/360700316205?_trksid=p2045573.m2042&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3 D1%26asc%3D16581%26meid%3D2045813825786667415%26pi d%3D100033%26prg%3D7839%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D 290964777448%26#ht_2725wt_999), which is designed to hold the console in place, and it's only really a sleeve.

(Though in hindsight, so was the Pokemon one for my GBA.)

I have looked at DSi XL cases, as various sources say the two consoles are similar enough sized (the 3DS XL apparently being slightly smaller)... Again, I have found little, though this (http://www.play.com/Games/DS/-/3997/3252/-/14650511/Officially-Licensed-Ultimate-Travel-Case-Black/Product.html?gclid=CODUw4bjnboCFVLJtAodahoAzQ&searchfilters=c%7b3997%7d+&_%24ja=cgid%3a8123429071%7ctsid%3a11759%7ccid%3a12 4905271%7clid%3a7621862217%7cnw%3as%7ccrid%3a27318 859591%7crnd%3a4018863991139760577%7cdvc%3ac%7cadp %3a1t1%7cmt%3ap) rather expensive case looks like it might be at least a little easier to use (since at least it would appear I could open the damn 3DS without having to remove it from the fragging case...)

So denizens of the playground, I seek your knowledge and suggestions.

What cases have you? Has anyone found anything better?

Does anyone have the new X and Y cases? It is difficult to see from the pictures, but is it at least possible with this one (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POWERA-POKEMON-X-Y-TRAVEL-ZIP-CASE-COVER-FOR-NINTENDO-3DS-XL-3DS-DSi-XL-DSi-/400584800259?pt=UK_VideoGames_VideoGameAccessories _VideoGameAccessories_JN&hash=item5d44b6f803#ht_3608wt_1170) to open the 3DS without having to take it out: i.e. is that strap-looking thing below the open flap attached to it or is it free like that DSi XL case? (That would, at least, be a step up from my current case - I could live with that.)

I mean, I would like a Pokemon case if I can get one, but if they aren't any better than the one I already have, I might as well consider getting one of those flip and play cases, since what it looks in aethetics and a zip-up bag at least I don't have to faff about extracting my console...

Unrelated - those new Pokemon X and Y styluses are a bit pants, aren't they? 2D outline with a sticker on it? Come on, lads, the Dialga one I got with aforementioned case is fracking awesome (when for a while earlier this year I thought I'd lost it, I was really broken up about it) and it's a proper 3D model. Just not trying, are they?

So, I can't tell, is the lack of replies because no-one actually uses 3DS cases or because you have all somehow mistaken me for a spambot?

'Cos if it's the latter, my SK-series Rocket Launcher would be happy to violently re-educate everyone...

Well, I was kindof hoping to see your results. ;P

But I'm not actually in the market for a "Carrying case" kind of case. If I were to buy a case, I'd be looking for something more like this (http://tinyurl.com/o2gqad9). An extra pouch to put the thing in before I put it in my jacket pocket or backpack doesn't really seem to fulfill a valid purpose for me.

Well, for one thing, my DS and 3DS (and GBA at one point) live on my desktop, so keeping them in a case keeps them relatively clean - and my DS has tended to go nearly everywhere with me anyway. So the extra protection is useful against knocks and scrapes - and drops! - and for being able to fit in my little DS game boxes as well.

My birthday's on Thursday anyway, so see if I get anything then first, before I come back and have another look. Since this does not appear to be an issue for most people...!
