Biome D - Edge Daylight Barracks

The Biomes are huge arcologies - independent spacecraft in their own right - tethered to the central Crucible hub. They are sanctuary for the myriad races undergoing the pressure-test that is the Crucible, with sophisticated life support systems and adaptive environmental controls that give every Crucible staffmember and SWORD Cadet a semblance of comfort.

In Biome D, 3rd Quad, in the utilitarian Edge DayLight Barracks on Level 14, you all are scheduled two hours of free-time. Which is a lie. Considering the amount of homework, personal chores, and other responsibilities you have, your "free-time" is spent simply catching up. It doesn't matter that your group has only been on the Crucible for a week undergoing orientation, and were just assigned a Squad and barracks this morning - you already have assignments, both implied and explicit. Homework and the cleaning of your racks, for example.

So in any case, you are a group of highly skilled, highly capable perfect strangers in a tiny arcology, bundled together in a worldcraft hurtling around the debris field of a Class S white-hole. In two hours, your free-time is up - and thats when, you know, your Commanding Officer is scheduled to come for your First Inspection. You don't know who has been assigned to Edge Daylight, but whoever he/she/it is will be in charge of your training and time at the Crucible - your CO will literally be your mother, your father, your personal god.

Scene Aspects
- Disorganized, Messy Racks
- Room Full of Strangers

> SWORD of GOD_

A young Drakin male stand in his barracks as the first to arrive to the assigned quarters and have made sure to double reinforce the giant bag that hold his treasure hoard. For some reason, humans don't like it when there is a pile of stuff on the floor, no matter HOW neat and organized it is.

No one else is here yet.

> Enter name_

Uyaerno Dsa.

Stop it. Just because you have a funny name is no reason to make fun of it.

> Try again_

Glee'Yy Tro

Much better.

Your name is Glee'Yy Tro. As a member of the Tro family you have been assigned to the Milky Way Galaxy for cultural integration w/ the human race. Your interests include but are not limited to: Biology, Biochemistry, Alchemy, and Psi-ops; and you can't wait to add human knowledge to your metaphorical spellbook.

> Examine Barracks_

Not much here. There's your big bag of stuff and you in your over-glorified-tin-can of an encounter suit.

Theramin almost literally bounces right into the room, carrying her few personal belonging with her in a backpack. As she does so, she hits her head on the roof, making a loud metallic clanking sound.

As she lands from her entry jump, she looks up at the small, yet noticeable dent in the ceiling and scratching her head, she says, "Ooops" grinning sheepishly to the only other person in the room.

Waving to, him? she guessed, she says, "Hello, you must be my new squadmate, my name's Theramin, what's yours?"

Torta is fascinated by her surroundings. So many alien species around her, and so many potential new things to discover! While she's passingly familiar with some of the species here, she hasn't had a good chance to interact with any of them meaningfully.

She decides to start with the tiny insect-like creature. So, she approaches Akkitt, bouncing slightly in her excitement. Another carapaced student!

"Wow, you're so tiny! How well does your armor protect you?" As if to test it out, she reaches out to prod at his forehead.

[Starting things out by compelling "So charmingly exotic!"]

Oh great. Human tech always messes w/ your ability to perceive; like a human staring into the sun. Good thing you're sealed in your robotic suit.

> O.K., now actually respond_

Fine wise guy. Androids are immune to telepathy, so you rummage through your hoard and pull out your psychic amplifier and the internet Wi-Fi attachment to link w/ the bot.

Tro: <Greetings. Names are a tad difficult to translate since they are a purely lingual construct, but the most common interpretation I know is Glee'Yy.>

An eight-legged symmetrical tentacle monster walks? Crawls? Into the room.

It passes by the three engaged in conversation and sets about cleaning the room with remarkable efficiency.

"Oh cool, how do you do that?" she asks. Just as she does so, she notices the spider thing, crawling in and cleaning the room. As it does so, realization dawned on her face, as she shouted, "We've gotta get this place cleaned up, we've gotta get this place cleaned up!" rushing to help the creature clean up the room.

Curey seems to completely ignore the others, instead setting to work with a brush or a mop in all eight of its prehensile tentacles to thoroughly clean the room.

I'm spending a fate point to invoke Curey's "Half-Robot Tentacle Monster" aspect, since it's got eight legs so it can do more work in a shorter period of time, to add a +2 to its roll to Carefully clean the room.

Theramin bolted across the room, rapidly attempting to clean it up. As she did so, she blurred as she organized the racks in a hurry, clearing things the tentacled alien missed out on.

Akkit N'kik, Skitaari Student
Fate Points: 3
Stress: [][][]

A flash of red zips through the barracks, a strong breeze blowing through with a noise akin to an angry insect buzzing past one's ear. This occurs several times, the silence between each 'event' lasting the blink of an eye. With each pass, rough leather bags, crude weaponry seeming carved from bone, and other assorted academy equipment lands upon an unclaimed bed. When the last item is put in place, the indistinct blur cleared into the last thing many would expect to see in a SWORD installation: a skitaari.

Standing at a little over three feet and covered in fierce red chitin, the creature's purple compound eyes taking in its environs. Akkit had trouble picking up sharp images, his vision focused on detecting movement. Among the skitaari, that was more often than not fleeing prey to be pounced upon and devoured while it screamed and thrashed in horror and pain. Such thoughts briefly flitted through his brain. Of course, eating fellow students would be grounds for expulsion, possibly worse, and so those thoughts were pushed down deep where they would not inhibit his ability to think.

The diminutive red beast offered, in way of greeting, a series of clicks and chirps from his mandibles.

Thr: We've gotta get this place cleaned up, we've gotta get this place cleaned up!Tro: <It is similar to linking two pieces of technology from different species. You just need the right adaptor.>
Tro: <But my side is clean! Everything is in the bag, which is tucked away in the corner.>

You greet in kind w/ thoughts of openness and hospitality directed at the insect, there was no sign of Tyconite corruption, and as long as [INSERT GENDER NEUTRAL PRONOUN] didn't pick up that thought and only the greeting, everything should be fine.

Curey seems not to mind Theramin's presence. At her question, Curey raises two of her tentacles in a gesture meant to imitate a shrug, then scurries off - one tentacle over another - to clean its own room.

Curey is going to go to carefully clean its own room.

Akkit directed his attention toward the alien who seemed to be paying it an unusual level of attention. He hopped back, letting loose a bewildered and mildly threatening flurry of clicks. After a few moments, the skitaari managed to settle himself down and actually respond to the question, "Protects well enough. Better to avoid being hurt, though. Hurt first so they can't hurt back."
