So a buddy of mine was wondering if there are states for a scope for a crossbow/rifle... I was at a loss. Does such a thing exist?

There is a gnomish crossbow scope from AE&G. It treats targets as if they were 2 range categories closer than they actually are.

It is a bit more limiting then that, it changes how your weapon interacts. If someone is within the first two ranges, it has no affect on them.

So it saves you a -4 penalty on the increments,so take it as you wish.

The same book also has a crossbow bipod IIRC. Gives you a +2 to hit once you set it up and don't move.

Horizon Goggles serve a similar purpose.

So I know this is mostly wishful thinking on my part, but... ok, here's the relevant text on A&EG p. 36:

"The user treats targets as if they were two range increments closer."

Put this on a hand crossbow with a range increment of 30'. Take the Crossbow Sniper feat, so sneak attack works out to 60'.

Let's say my target is somewhere between 61' and 120'. Gnome crossbow sight lets me treat them as 60' closer. Can I now sneak attack this target?

That's debatable. I'd say yes, but others would say a range increment is different from the actual distance.

Why not have a heavier crossbow handy for those longer shots? I can easily imagine you having a hand crossbow for normal use and a scoped, bipodded great crossbow for taking out people on battlements or at the base of the hill your sitting on.

The thing is, making a viable sniper is really really hard in this system.

I wrote this up:

to try and do that... and it just barely succeeds...

Tippy's bird of prey sniper might help them get ideas for their sniping build if they need any ideas.
