The Temple of Inari XXXIV

[McBish]

You have entered the temple of Inari, in her capacity as the Goddess of Foxes.

You walk down an elegant white gravel pathway between full-grown pines. Stone lanterns provide a pure white light to the path, while casting elegant shadows among the trees.

At the end of the pathway, a bright red gate stands. A large fox carved from white alabaster gleams at each side of the gate. As you pass between the foxes and through the gate, you feel the presence of the goddess. Gentle and caring, but mischievous and lighthearted, you are never quite certain what will happen.

Past the exquisite formal gardens, you finally step into the pagoda itself. There, at the end of chamber is a raised dais. There rests a statue of a beautiful werefox woman, flanked by two snow-white celestial foxes. Offerings of rice and incense stand before the statue.

In a niche off to the right side of the door sits a Fox-Cola vending machine. Next to the coin slot, the sign reads "10 cp";.

To the left side of the door is a magic mirror. This mirror is actually a portal to Trog's Tavern.

Goddess of the cultivation and growth of rice, including rice products. This gives her minor coverage for fertility. She is also the racial goddess of foxes, werefoxes, and kitsune.

Priest Granted Powers

Rice Paddy: Once per day
As Entangle, but the ground changes to knee-deep mud, and instead of creepers, mature rice plants twist and writhe to grapple anything in the area.

Sushi Bar: Once per day
You create rice, fish, and sake. You can create enough to feed one medium sized creature for each two caster levels.

Summon Celestial Fox: Special
You summon an image of Myobi (if you are a priestess) or Myobu (if you are a priest). The fox has HD equal to your level plus your wisdom bonus. In combat, the fox fights the same as a normal fox, but with appropriate bonuses for HD.

Temple Facilities

Everything but the Sanctuary and Garden has Dimensional Lock. The entire facility is Hallowed as per the spell with the Bless effect.

- Sanctuary: the main sanctuary has the altar. This is where you must pray to speak to the goddess directly. There is a general magic circle in the center of the room.

- Meditation Gardens: accessed through a door at the far end of the sanctuary. This is a standard zen garden with raked gravle, shady nooks, picturesque pines, stone lanterns, and small intricate bridges. An artifical stream hosts large koi, and a grand cherry tree resides on a picturesque island in the middle of a good sized pond. A female water dragon named Ayame ("Iris", as in the flower) resides in the pond, but is rarely seen.

- Priest's Quarters: accessed by going down the stairs "halfway down the sanctuary, to the right", which leads to a covered pathway (technically under the garden). A cluster of japanese style paper-wall buildings.

- Summoning chamber: A small building set apart from the others with solid stone walls, a sturdy roof, and a thick adamantine door. Inside; the obsidian ceiling, walls and floors are crawling with glowing silvery magical sigils. Literally crawling, the magic writing moves even as you look at it. In the very center of the room is a summoning circle of gold, platinum, and gemstones. The design is intricate beyond belief and it is worth wondering if even living creatures might find themselves bound inside should the priests wish it.

Kyrian slowly slides an arm around Lillah's waist again. He knows the reaction he'll likely get, but he also assumes she knows she's safe in his arms.

Lillah tightens up again but she puts her hand on his so he doesn't pull away.

We'll get through this, together. He gently whispers in her ear.

Lillah nods and rests her head on his shoulder. I hope so.

Kyrian sits there with Lillah, still lightly strumming his guitar with his free hand, and trying to hold tears back.

[McBish]

Lillah just sits there. After awhile she turn towards him Let's go home. They stand and Kyrian teleports them.

Ilias wakes up from under the tree where he was forgotten and looks around Huh? Someone must have been tired. he mutters and walks into the sanctuary.

It's ok. In the end, it wasn't anything any of us did that mattered anyway. We plotted, wandered around, fought monsters that somehow just weren't as frightening as they used to be, and generally wasted a lot of time...

(( Too many things worked against that storyline, and I think it would be best to let it rest in peace. I'll post the "what happened" summary after you guys have a chance to say "no! we want to finish it!" [or not]. ))

Ilias looks confused, then grins Oh, that. Well, just few minor mistakes, really. It started with the rebuilding of Trog's. In the hope of not draining myself of energy I drew some from my homeplane, unfortunatly I may have went overboard with it and went a bit confused.

Wouldn't have been much of a problem, if I hadn't promised to help Val get home. Since he needed a really big storm I channeled some more energy, and I guess it just went out of hand at some point... could have ended really badly... can you imagine infinite amounts of energy poured into a finite plane?

Aesa finally looks around for Asea, wondering who Asea is, and why Asea is always following her.

Lillah walks in through the mirror and uses he cane to guide her to a seat.

Ugh... not you again. Run out of people to set on fire or something?

mIlias nods and looks around Yeah, it got a bit boring so I thought there would be more fun here. It may smell bad and give me the creeps, but there's more people here.

Lillah sits there wondering who this person is.

Smells bad? Compared to that miserable hell-hole of a ruined temple? Whatever.

Myobi shakes her head

More people, indeed - but most of them are both unwilling to be burnt, and quite capable of prreventing it.

Lillah continues sitting hoping this new person won't start a fight.

He frowns Yeah, now that I think about it, you've always been rather boring. But... I could throw you out... I guess that'd be lots of fun. I haven't had a good fight in a long time. he chuckles madly

He raises an eyebrow Huh... never heard of such a spell. he thinks, then grins So, then you can't fight either, so if I burn down the temple you can't do anything about it?

Nope: Flame Quench, permanent. Why don't you get something to drink - you look thirsty.

He looks down and frowns Damn you truely are boring... Flame Quench, never heard of such blasphemy! he mutters and looks around before turning back to the mirror and walking through. Perhaps I can burn down Trog's instead.

Fenric waits until mIlias is good and gone before bursting out laughing

Blood appears next to Fenric with a faint pop. She looks slightly confused. Umm, right. She looks up at Fenric and folds her front legs in an obvious bow. She straightens and looks even more confused.

Xemnas visited the temple last night, he attacked me, after killing Fenhai (shock! just realized I'd never raised him last night...to the edit button!). I fought him for a while, when Ares came in. He wasn't himself, something had seemed to drive him over the edge, and he had come to kill me. He knocked Xemnas out and came after me, taking all my powers from me. He almost killed me...

Myobi looks concerned

Myobi immediately turns and scurries out of the sanctuary.

A rather happy looking demon walks into the temple, wondering if he's going to get struck down by the goddess or her followers for daring to step foot into a CG goddess' temple. He swings his tail as he walks, and then he sees the mood of those in the temple. Bad time?

I only knew Ares by reputation and frankly couldn't care less about him. Kyrian, however, is my friend. This sucks.

Fenric looks at the demon but doesn't show any signs of smiting, or even surprise.

Relaxing doesn't make the issues go away. Sometimes it even makes them worse.

Of course, this is all just me indulging in a little self-pity. Everything will work out somehow, eventually. The whole Ravenloft issue sorted itself out, even if it was not exactly what I had in mind.

His tail swings and curls in on itself as he smiles. I've found that relaxing has nothing to do with the issues at hand.

It is refreshing to meet a laid-back demon for a change. We get so many of the tightly wound up violent sort around here.

Sometimes I think we need a separate word for "random dweller from an evilly-aligned plane" to distinguish between folks like him and demons deserving of the title.

Krystal chuckles and shakes her head at Myobi's strange behavior, but casts the Prestidigitation to clean Myobi up. The two then head into the sanctuary.

Supagoof pops out of the mirror, and walks briskly away from it.

Phew, hopefully that loses them for a bit...

No sooner then he said the words, one of the NPC laides pops out and searches around. Supagoof ducs quickly behind a pillar. Another NPC follows, pretty quickly the room is filled as they come through the mirror. Supagoof continues to hide behind the pillar. They are all about the leave the room when the grumble of Supagoof's stomach stops them in their tracks.

Aw crud....

He runs through a door, locks it behind him, and heads further into the temple. The mob tries to follow, but find the door locked. The begins to pound on the door, disturbing the peace of the temple.

(garden) *The llama wakes up from his nap by the pounding on the door. Seeing all the women, he smiles and mutters something about "fertility Goddesses" with a smile on his face.*

Fenric and Myobi stand up to greet Supagoof as he runs into the temple, and stop short as he runs out and locks the garden door. Fenric scowls at the squabbling NPCs

Hi Fenric, hi Myobi, long time no see. I apologize for the disturbence. The women all believe that they are my one true love, but I don't know which one, if any of them, is. I woke up, and they were all around me.

Supagoof says, walking over to Fenric.

Ah... I see... How did they all get into your house?

*The llama bleats happily to see Supagoof up and around, he starts getting up, to see what's going on.* (not that he'll do much as I'm working on stuff, but he'll be around)

Well, it stems from a long time ago. I had a curse placed upon me when I was with the legion. Apparently a gypsy thought it would be amusing to pull some tricks on the men in the group, myself included. The curse would take place five years after that date, if the person cursed had not found his life's true love. As it turns out, with me, I had not when the fifth year's time had expired. I thought nothing of it actually, since I had died and been ressurected I was certain the curses effects had worn off, seeing as you can't make a dead guy fall in love. Anyway, the gypsy told us that the first person we saw when we awoke would be our true love.

The curse took place while I was at the restaurant. I lost all control of my body, and had no way to speak to anyone. When Kender jumped in my mind, I could sense he was there, but couldn't communicate directly to him. He could however, see my thoughts, so I thought of things to relay the message. Anyway, he apparently got the picture, as he left. Next thing I know, S'Vreeem, one of our employee's whose a half dragon, carried me to a shrine that I believe her and Kender built. They placed me there with a sign telling those who passed by I was waiting for true loves kiss.

When I awoke, I felt a yearning for someone, and uncontrollable urge to be with someone, but when I opened my eyes and saw the mob of women, the yearning left. I suspect seeing more then one person caused the curse to break...

Anyway, all of them believe that they alone are my true love. *sigh* So that's the tale. In running from them, I dove into the first mirror I saw at Trog's, which brought me here to Inari's. They followed.

Supagoof finishes his tale, and takes a seat looking dispared.

[Fenric]

Fenric arches his eyebrows

Fascinating. Well, it's a trifle late to suggest Remove Curse. Would you like to try some Divination to see if one of these is the lucky girl, or at least to rule it out?

*Atreyu hears what's going on and trots out to the crowd and kinda slips it out that Supagoof likes a girl who's kind to animals and then mentions that he'd like a tummy rub and an ear scratching*

We can try, but I'm not certain how the gypsy had the curse work. I don't know if she actually cursed us for true love or if she cursed us for her amusement, having the spell wear off in a different way. There's two things to figure out. One, who amongst the crowd would be my true love, if any, and two, how do we convince the rest of them that they are not the one? But divination is a good start.

Multiple girls rush over to Atreyu and begins scratching him and rubbing his tummy.

I can't, genius: you banished me to the shadows, remember? If I do it, she'll be just like Gezina, Atreyu, and Exachix.

Fenric groans in exasperation and runs out through the mirror

Myobi arches her eyebrows as Fenric and Kazuki run out. She turns to Supagoof.

Myobi turns to the doppleganger with a suspicious look

Fenric is out attending to a resurrection right now. However, I am Myobi: the High Priestess. What can we do for you.

"I was told to come back later. I am the guildmaster of heaven's exiles, mercenary guild. you may have heard of us, perhaps? anyway, I have come to get a contract with your temple. I hear there are battles here and you might be in need of protection. You can call us when you need. Hear is the contract, and an amulet that contacts me immediately via telepathy. You know where to find us."

Supagoof sighs.

No, no other questions I can think of besides the two obvious. I tend to shy away from divination, and not just because I got bad marks for it back in cleric school. I just want to figure out things for myself in most cases. Though I would like to know what happened with Kender. Last I heard when lying at the shrine was that there was a terrible commotion going on with some sort of metal rod, and that the Kender was being chased. So perhaps a question of where the Kender is and how she/he's doing?

Myobi abruptly collapses unconscious to the floor. A smell of burnt fur fills the room.

The doppelganger walks over to the body and trys to heal it to full health. "Are you ok?"

Myobi doesn't respond. A link to someone else drains the healing away as fast as it is given.

After a pause, a voice answers.

None of these women is Supagoof's true love. Only in his heart can that answer be revealed, and spells can not force nor find true love for anyone.

Supagoof hears the answers. So does the mob of women who was chasing him. Those that had been petting and scratching Atreyu give up and walk away, except for one who doesn't mind and continues to rub Atreyu's stomach. The rest of the mob disperses.

Supagoof sees Myobi start to drop, and attempts to catch her and sets her down gently.

The man from Trog's swishes in dramatically through the mirror, followed by the silent small figure, and looks around. "Ah, excuse me? I'm looking for a Valathe Hyate. I'm told she's the Head Accountant here?"

Ilias looks up at the man, not sure he likes the dramatic effect of his entrance, but nodding politely anyway

She is busy at the moment. May we know why you are looking for her?

"I have something of a message for her. Do you know where she is? It's rather important." Though the man is perfectly polite and properly respectful, there is an odd, intangible quality he possesses that seems to imply general ill will and oily deception.

[Fenric]

Fenric nods

I know where she should be, and it is not an area of the temple where we allow vistitors. As it is the beginning of the new year, there are many urgent accounting details to be taken care of, forms to be filed with the government, and budgets to plan for the next year.

We would greatly prefer she not be disturbed right now unless it is an emergency, so if you would like to leave a messag for her we will be sure she gets it at her next break.

[Deadly]

A small white bird flies in and lands silently above the doorway. It's eyes glows a bit as it tilts it's head and looks at the man from behind. ((True Seeing))

The man is a normal human, but his small shadow is a vampire.

He bites his lip. "Oh dear. It's not that urgent, but I do need to tell her in person. Is there any way-" He is cut of by Valathe's entrance into the Sanctuary. "Hey Fenric, how much tea did you want to order?" she asks, ignoring the man.

[Deadly]

Ilias frowns a bit but remains still. To Fenric: The small one behind him is a vampire.

Fenric sighs

Hi, Valathe. Your timing is exquisite... I think our tea stores grew a bit lately, so we should scale back by about 15 percent.

Fenric nods at Ilias for no immediately apparent reason.

*Atreyu wanders over, (Tony having hung the werewolf) to see this newcomer.*

Valathe nods and scribbles this down on a bit of paper and is about to go when she is interrupted by the man. "NOT SO FAST, VALATHE," he says in a sonorous voice. He obviously cast a spell while speaking, since Valathe freezes in place, eyes wide.

*Atreyu's ears perk up and he growls at the stranger.* "Let her go!"

[Deadly]

Ilias stands up, glaring at the man I suggest you behave here, and let Valathe go or stay by her own will.

[Fenric]

Fenric and Myobi both stand up abruptly. Myobi draws her sai.

Release her at once!

[Hoseki]

The man smirks and removes his black leather gloves, tossing them disdainfully to his vampire. "And I suggest you don't try to stop me. It may end badly for you." he says cooly, adding a Suggestion spell into his words.

*Atreyu shakes his head and suddenly thinks that he shouldn't try to stop this guy. Surely, Fenric and Myobi can handle him and Atreyou would only be in the way of their spells.*

Ilias shakes off the enchantment and two more of him appear around the man Last warning, let her go!

[Fenric]

Fenric and Myobi both laugh

Sorry, bub. That's just not going to work. And I regret to inform you that I consider that an attack.

Take 'em down.

Fenric casts Dispell Magic (Caster Level 30) on Valathe. Myobi targets a bolt of fire and a bolt of lightning at the man.

[Hoseki]

The man jerks his head at one of the Ilias cosplayers. "Einkil!" The tiny vampire rushes the clone unhesitatingly and attempts to pin him with surprising strength. The fire and lighting simply absorb into a ring he wears, and the Dispel does not succeed.

[Fenric]

Fenric shrugs and stretches out his hand. His bladestaff appears and activates with it's brilliant white and light-destroying black flames.

Fenric attacks. Myobi calls on her brother, who appears in a shimmering of blue light with his frostrand katana and wakizashi drawn.

The vampire finds nothing but air where he tries to grapple. The clone that should have been there is now a few feet away. All three clones summon 4 tiny, shimmering blades in each hand and throws them in quick succession at the man ((That's 24 shuriken, 8 from 3 different directions))

*the llama stands there watching the battle around him, wondering if he should stop the little guy.*

((Yup. Small, brown eyes, brown hair. He looks slightly unhappy, but his expression is otherwise blank.))

The man dodges most of the attacks suberbly and casts Fireball, centered on him. Einkil lunges at Myobu.

Myobu's blades cancel the fire's damage, and he starts in surprise at Einkil's charge

Fenric dodges, but gets scortched by the fireball. He snarls in feral anger and begins to attack more violently.

Two of the clones summon each a pair of shimmering daggers and focus on enhancing them (Psychic Strike +5d8) before throwing them. The last clone focus on trying to force the air out of the mans lungs, strangling him if successful (fortitude save to negate)

Little Kyrian comes in, hearing the noise. He sees the fight and immediately manifests his soul-claws

Hawkeye and Wukei appear in the gardens of the temple, Hawkeye drops to one knee wincing.

The man coughs as he barely makes his fortitude save and is struck by Ilias' clones' daggers. He dodges a few of Fenric's strikes but is hit by the rest, and makes his save against the Holy Word. He casts Polar Ray at Fenric.

Einkil stops suddenly. "What?" he asks blankly.

The avatar Myobi appears out in the garden in front of Hawkeye and Wukei in her celestial fox form.

You two might like to stay out here.

She looks at them both, and then immediately casts a divine-level Heal on Hawkeye.

You need to rest for a bit. I'll have the acolytes bring you some food and something to drink.

Fenric doesn't even try to dodge the ray and frost coats his warm fur. His snarl sets into madness and he attacks in a frenzy.

Myobu takes hold of Einkil's arm and tries to pull him away from the man.

Myobi casts Heal, Mass

Little Kyrian empowers then thows his two soulknives at the man fighting his father.

*Atreyu bleats out* "That va...kid is the one I met whenever I was poisoned. He's the kidney kid. What's he doing here?"

The clones blink away and reappear in new locations to cause confusion, immediatly sending a hail of small blades at the man as they appear.

Wukei backs away from Hawkeye as he's healed and looks out at the pond.

Hawkeye sighs from the healing. He smiles "Thank you..." he looks around at Wukei "You ok?"

She looks out at the pond, not turning to him. Yea...just thinking.

((Gah.. I have to go for half an hour or so.))

The man frantically cats Meteor Swarm. Einkil, confused and a little numb, is pulled away quite easily.

Hawkeye walks over to Wukei and puts both arms around her "Tell me what's wrong Wu"

Wukei tenses in his arms and shakes her head. I'm fine...

Ms E awakens to find Evander standing nearby. His eyes light up as he comes out of his sleeping state.
"Did you rest well?"
"Mm... yep. Pretty good, thanks." Ms E climbs out of bed and begins to adjust her hair, which has fallen out of it's hair tie during the night. "So, what would you like to do today, Evander? We could visit Trog's again. Or hang out here. If Fenric is here you can ask him all about Inari. Or we could just wander around the Town. I still haven't seen too very much of it."
Evander contemplates this momentarily, "I would like to gain data on Inari and this priest, Fenric."
Ms E nods with a grin. "Ok, then let's head to the main hall. That's where he usually is. Maybe we'll get to see Kazuki and Izumi, too." Ms E opens the door and begin to trot down the hall. Following closely behind, Evander wonders who Kazuki and Izumi are.

[Hawkeye]

Hawkeye shakes his head "No, you're not fine...and I don't need the link to tell me that..."

[Deadly]

Ilias screams at the fire. The two clones disappear and the remaining blinks as far away from the fire as possible before throwing a single blade at the man (enhanced to do 5 points of Int damage, through 'Knife to Soul')

Wukei pulls away from him and turns to look at him. I...I can't talk about it.

[Fenric]

The meteors pound Fenric into unconsciousness. That causes Myobi to drop out, too.

Myobu counterspells the meteors away from himself as he drags Einkil away to a side room and puts a force wall over it (must love being an avatar). He then splits into two: one goes to drag Valathe away to safety, the other attacks the man.

Little Kyrian restores his blades and then throws them again. He also blasts out an Energy Ray (force), spending 4 extra points on it.

[Hawkeye]

"Wu, tell me. We've been through enough, haven't we?"

[Atreyu the Masked LLama]

*atreyu takes off liike mad away from the meteor swarm, stopping somewhere outside its range. His wool looks very singed and smells badly.*

[Wukei]

I...enjoyed it... she looks away, biting her lip.

[Ms_Elaneous]

Hearing the blasts of energy from the sanctuary, Ms E picks up the pace. As they enter the room, Evander rushes out in front of her, obstructing attacks and a good chunk of her view.
"Nani?!" Ms E slips into a little Japanese at her surprise.
"This place is unsafe for my lady. Shall we make our exit now?" Evander is still blocking her with his body. Ms E peers out from around him and his cloak seeing her friends in battle. "Llama?"

[Atreyu the Masked LLama]

*he turns with a surprised bleat* "ms. E.?"

[Ms_Elaneous]

"Atreyu! Get back behind Evander! He'll shield you." Ms E directs her attention at Evander. "We are not leaving. These are my friends."
"Why are your friends casting destructive spells at one another?" Evander seems genuinely confused.
Ms E shakes her head back and forth. "Augh! No, no. The one hurting all of my friends is not my friend." Ms E wishes she had had time to explain things a bit more before now.

[Hawkeye]

Hawkeye shakes his head "Wu, we've been through this several times before..." he walks to her and places his hands on her shoulders "It was a spell he put on you, you can't take what happened as if you meant everything that you said and felt every feelings you had"

[Fenric]

Fenric sits up on one elbow while waiting for Hoseki to get back. He looks over at Moybi.

Any thoughts on what to have for dinner?

Myobi hisses at him

Shhh! We're unconscious! Don't spoil Hoseki's battle.

Fenric pulls a face

But she said she'd be away for about half an hour. Just lying here is so boring.

[Wukei]

(*bursts out laughing*)

Wukei shakes her head. No...even remembering it withhout the charm holding me... She looks out across the pond, ashamed.

[Hawkeye]

Hawkeye shakes his head and walks a short way away. He sits on the grass and sighs.

*The llama scurries toward Ms. E. and her machine. He ducks behind it.* "we've gotta save Fenric, (after the battle resumes and he's done making continuity cry.) that thing will kill him, but don't try to stop it. Its too powerful."
