Longspear as an Improvised Quarterstaff (PF Core)

Silly question, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to ask: what's stopping me from using a Longspear as an improvised Quarterstaff? I wanted to use a polearm for both close-quarters combat and reach, but the limitation of PF Core doesn't give me the benefits of choosing something like Shorten Grip. Could I use a Longspear that way?

Ask your DM. I would say it was reasonable, but what can and cannot be used as an improvised weapon is up to them.
