Simple Title, Quick Thread.

Can anyone reccomend some good organ music to me?
I will be running a scene in a cathedral with enchanted organs that play. Anything organ will do as long as it has no vocals.

Thanks!

I don't know if you've seen Pirates of the Caribbean 2, but Davy Jones plays a piece on the organ that sounds quite nice.
Don't know where to get that though, perhaps the OST?

It is Bach. Speaking of Bach, Art of the Fugue. Composed for organ you should be able to find a good recording of the book in organ.

Yeah, I knew it was Bach... beats me why I put Beethoven. And the link works now you say? Oh well, I just adjusted it to be downloadable.

To echo VT & Amotis (who I personally think are always good people to bandwagon :smallwink: ), J.S.Bach is the daddy when it comes to organ music. He's pretty much the standard against which all other organ music is measured, and he does some pretty evocative stuff. :smallcool:

V-- Yeah, but TheThan, you think the last two words of the National Anthem are "Play ball!"

*Ahem*

Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out to the crowd,
Buy me some penuts and cracker jacks,
I don’t care If I ever come back,

For it root, root, root for the home team,
If they don’t win it’s a shame,
For it’s one, two, three strikes your out,
At the old ball game,

There you’ve got your organ music :smalltongue:

I don't know if it meets your expectations 100%, but the Carmina Burana from Carl Orff http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmina_Burana_%28Orff%29#Instrumental_elements has some quite impressive parts. Unfortunately, I don't know if there are enough vocal free parts.

The soundtrack to the original Devil May Cry had some excellent organ parts I've used as background music a couple of times. I've got a playlist with a bunch of different organ stuff, none of the rest of which I can remember right now.

I third or fourth the Bach idea. You can often get CDs of classical music extremely inexpensively, as well.

There's a number of choir tacets that could be good music. Parts of this piece can make good atmospheric music in general, especially in pantheistic temples, monasteries, and the like. And since no one will recognize anything but the first and last movements, it's not all that distracting.

Toccata and Fugue by Bach is my ringtone.

In other news, not organ but still terrifyingly good is Franz Liszt, as is Camille Saint-Saens.

I like my composers late Romantic, thank you.

Bach is always good, but Handel also did a lot of good Organ work. Specifically check out his Concerto for Organ Op. 7 No. 1 (no link, unfortunately).

Check out a lot of cathedral-based music. I also (insert number in order) the call for Bach. You can also find really cheap classical music CDs devoted entirely to organ. Gregorian chants, if you don't mind the vocals, might also be right up your alley.

Bah. Beethoven, Bach and Handel could kick their asses any day. Vaughan Williams, too, but he's newer than them and I'd really go with the 'cranky old person' argument when it comes to music. ;)
