This round is now closed, but voting continues here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=312888)!

Hello, OOTS Fans! And Welcome to the FAVORITE ORDER OF THE STICK QUOTE TOURNAMENT!

In this tournament, quotes which won nominations here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=302659) and here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=303560) will compete to determine the all-time* favorite OOTS quote as chosen by you, the fans!

*Well, all-time until someone else decides to redo this tournament a while on down the road.

RULES:

1. In each thread, I will post four matchups. You may vote for ONE quote in EACH matchup. Later threads will have fewer matchups as the tournament nears its conclusion.

2. Please place the number of the quote for which you are voting (as shown in the OP) with your vote, preferably bolded.

3. If your quote loses, never fear! This is a double elimination tournament. A quote's first loss will move it to a losers' bracket, where if it beats the other quotes there it may eventually move on up as far as third place.

4. Voting for this round will conclude at 9PM EDT on Monday, November 4th. I will generally give a week for all rounds, unless it becomes clear that no one is voting for the last few days. The extra time for this round is due to an impending lack of internet over the weekend.

The round number is just that. The lowercase letter indicates what part of the round it is. The (W) or (L) indicates whether the round is for the winners' or losers' bracket. I may drop that distinction later on and run both in one thread.

So, without further ado, here are the matchups:

18. :vaarsuvius: Now if you don't mind, I am somewhat preoccupied telling the law of physics to shut up and sit down (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0107.html)

vs.

20. :belkar: "Solve a man's problems with violence, help him for a day. Teach a man to solve his problems with violence, help him for a lifetime!" (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0612.html)

21. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/trytoguess/O-Chul.png "And you find the idea that I have some sort of secret knowledge implanted in my brain by the elders of the Sapphire Guard that has been so deeply supressed that no magical effect can unearth it to be SIMPLER... ...than the idea that I just don't know anything?" (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0546.html)

vs.

23. :redcloak: "Because let's be clear: [...] There can be only one rational response to that." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0830.html)

25. :vaarsuvius: As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0696.html)

vs.

28. :vaarsuvius: "Not if my index finger has anything to say about it. And, as it turned out, it had quite the stirring dissertation prepared on that very subject." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0596.html)

29. :belkar: "I AM A SEXY SHOELESS GOD OF WAR!" (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0439.html)

vs.

32. :belkar: Isn't that why you losers keep me around? Hurting people is the only thing I'm good at. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0881.html)

And let the voting commence!

The number of V and Belkar quotes that have been in the running recently have been a little obnoxious. Oh well, let's go.

18. :vaarsuvius: Now if you don't mind, I am somewhat preoccupied telling the law of physics to shut up and sit down (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0107.html)

23. :redcloak: "Because let's be clear: [...] There can be only one rational response to that." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0830.html)
Both were way too long for my liking, but the context of this one was much better.

25. :vaarsuvius: As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0696.html)
Not that I like this one too much, but it's a little better than the competition.

32. :belkar: Isn't that why you losers keep me around? Hurting people is the only thing I'm good at. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0881.html)
I actually like this one a lot

20. :belkar:
When you make it V versus Belkar, or V versus anyone, V loses! Simple as that.

23. :redcloak:
Not sure I get the appeal of either quote but this one's more engaging.

28. :vaarsuvius:
Meh at both, but the other one needs the punchline ("And that would be wrong.") to make it work.

29. :belkar:
Vintage Belkar right here.

Love V's diction here.

23. :redcloak: "Because let's be clear: [...] There can be only one rational response to that." (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0830.html)

Neither quote is pithy, but this one is more revealing of character, and is tied to a more (to me) interesting moment.

25. :vaarsuvius: As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero. (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0696.html)

Genius.

Because I'm still interested in where this will go, I guess.

And a really tough decision for the last quote too... both moments are so poignant! After much consideration, I'm going to go with the triumphant...:

I concur. I had difficulty deciding which Belkar quotation to go for - his other quote is one of Belkar's few moments of self-awareness, and its almost mournful nature hints at actual Character Development - but in the end, the Sexy Shoeless God of War quotation sums him up too well to lose.

Vaarsuvius and O-Chul, of course, win easily.

First of all, #28 is one of my favorite quotes of the strip, so I don't want to do anything to help it lose, but...

I know the rules say "quotes must be uninterrupted", but quotes like #25 just don't really work as well without the punchline. Sure, it's a good quote, but once you add the punchline "and that would be wrong", it's comedy gold.

18. :vaarsuvius: beat 20. :belkar: 18-14

23. :redcloak: beat 21. http://i75.photobucket.com/albums/i294/trytoguess/O-Chul.png 18-14

29. :belkar: beat 32. :belkar: 21-10

Therefore, quotes 18, 23, 25, and 29 will move forward, while 20, 21, 28, and 32 will take their places in the loser's bracket.

I guess I was wrong about the V quote. But 28 lost, and only by one vote! So close!

And again I unerringly pick all the losing choices...beginning to think you should just tally my votes and then reverse them to come up with the totals.

We had a football pick-em game one year (in case you're not familiar, that's where you pick 5 teams every week and guess whether they will beat the spread or not). One guy got it wrong EVERY WEEK. So after awhile, we would just take his pick and flip it before sending it in, and we started doing much better. He wasn't happy when he found out, though.
