Previous Thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=270404)

This game is simple: Someone posts a number (in order, of course) then someone else posts the next number, etc. However, if someone repeats the number, or if someone counts in disorder for whatever reason, the count re-starts at 1.

We're trying to get to 100; but once you reach 100, keep on going if you can.

Please avoid editing or deleting your post if you messed up. Be creative, interesting, or boring as possible. Remember to follow the forum rules!

Good luck, and keep an eye out for ninjas!

Times passed 100: 5 (as of this thread, page 14)
Most recent high (past 100): 204 (page 17)
Highest score so far: 204 (page 17)
Times we beat the "highest score so far": 3 (as of thread 2, page 14)

The current number is:

38

Seventy-seven steps down and the same amount back up. I've taken this trip so many times that I could do it with my eyes closed. I might as well, because it's as dark as pitch down here in the dungeons.

This is the third time this week I've come down here. I'm being as quiet as I can because I know my mother doesn't want me to go down here. That's why I take my shoes off even though the stone floor is cold: so she won't hear my footsteps echo up into the house. I'll bet she's not even aware that I know about the secret trapdoor that leads here.

Down at the very depths of this place, there's a few torches that are kept lit. There's seven doors here at the bottom. I don't know where six of them go, because they're always kept locked. But the third on the right is usually unlocked. The door creaks as I open it, but the man chained up in there is still asleep.

I love his armor. It's so shiny. His sword is very well-made. It makes me feel comforted whenever I see it. Sometimes, I just stand here and watch him, wondering what sort of heroic knight he would be if he were free. Sometimes, I dream about saving him and bringing him out of this dungeon when I'm older, and we go off slaying dragons and great evils. Sometimes, I try talking with him.

He hates me. Every waking breath of his is spent vowing to slay me and my mother. He doesn't know who brought him a blanket for the coldest nights, and he doesn't know how I sneak him some extra food every so often.

He doesn't know how much it hurts every time he wishes I wasn't born.

Sixty-nine more unexplained disappearances happened that month. Nobody knew why or how, just that it happened. Inspector Uriel was tasked with the unfortunate job of searching after these disappearances. Unfortunately, on the twelfth of April in the twenty-third year of Emperor Zack's reign, the good Inspector found a long-lost dark secret.

It would have been better for all, had he not gone searching.

It all started out as a peaceful morning. The birds were singing of Life and Beauty, and the flowers were gently swaying in the warm spring breeze. Inspector Uriel had found a clue, a running thread between all of this month's disappearances. They all seemed unrelated, but he discovered one key point:

In the house of every single missing person was a message reading "Purify." Some, written in ink. Others, clawed into the floorboards. One even had it written in blood.

Upon further investigation, The Inspector found another clue: several of the victims were known for leaving the city late at night, once a week. Where they had gone each week, nobody knew.

Following this clue, Uriel decided to trail a known associate of many of these missing persons. Most of the day was boring. But then, just as the sun was about to set, the man he was trailing took a sudden turn towards the city gates.

Uriel followed from a distance, not knowing what he was getting himself into.

Now:

Five people joined in...no, wait, seven...now twelve...thirteen...fifteen. Fifteen people had gathered outside the city, just past sunset.

Inspector Uriel couldn't take his eyes off of them. They were doing strange chants, singing, dancing, and who-knows-what-else. What this had to do with the people gone missing, he had no idea. It's just that this looked evil and terrible.

Inspector Uriel quickly ran to the presiding counsel. Each one of them represented a different god in their judgement. The center man, the god of death. The one on the right, the goddess of wisdom. On the left, the god of change and war. Further to the left, the sun god. And so on, around the room.

The Inspector told the counsel what he saw outside the city gates. They began conversing before him, but quickly Inspector Uriel was led out of the building. As he was being led out, he could understand snippets of the conversation - how this had happened millennia ago. How this corruption must be removed. Purified. How this cult had caused The First Angelic Corruption, so many millennia ago.

They must be eradicated.

Now:

Twenty-one days later, Inspector Uriel saw the city's armies mobilize. They came down from the walls of the city and broke into several houses.

They dragged dozens of people out into the streets. They ignored their cries. Some, they threw in prison. Others, a public shaming, dragged through the streets. One of them in particular - a young woman with bleached-white hair - was carried to the city square, just in front of the council building.

They stacked wood, and put a stake in the middle of the wood. A member of the council walked down the steps of the council building, and gave a great speech. He honored Inspector Uriel for outing these heretics. Finally, once and for all, they would get rid of this woman. She didn't support the Only True Gods. So, as punishment, to free her soul from wickedness, they dressed her in a red hooded robe and tied her to the stake.

Inspector Uriel didn't want to watch, but he couldn't draw his eyes away from the spectacle.

Edit:\/: Yes, it was. It's a scene from a roleplaying game that I'm in right now. Don't worry, though; they all lived happily ever after.

Twenty-six more minutes passed before Inspector Uriel could bear to look up. Twenty six minutes after everyone else already left. When he did, there was just ash...nothing but ash and smoke.

He stepped down from the stand he was on, and walked towards the center of the city square. She deserved it, he tried to justify. She had turned against the Only True Gods, as many angels did so long ago. They were cast far north into oblivion, where they would be destroyed by the false god of destruction. She worshiped the false god's consort. She wasn't protected, because it was a false goddess she followed. The false goddess's creations had allied with the demons and the rebellious angels. She deserved it. She deserved it, he tried to justify.

It's funny how we try to make ourselves feel better by justifying something we had no control over. Human nature, I suppose.

Inspector Uriel turned away from the square and started to walk back to his house, to prepare the house for his wife and kids. Luckily, they were out visiting their relatives in another city so they weren't here to watch.

Right before the Inspector left the city square, he turned around one last time.

There was a woman kneeling in the ashes, crying, weeping. This woman...she looked different than all the others of the city. Uriel knew the face of every single citizen, but he couldn't place hers. There was no record of her entering the city. There will be no record of her exiting the city.

In spite of that, Inspector Uriel would never see her again.

Last time... (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16411358&postcount=200)

Nearly a millennium later...

It was the thirty-seventh week of the of the reign of the Immortal King, and the kingdom was in turmoil. The long-dead Immortal King had come back to undeath and challenged the Usurper King to single combat. The Cult of the Destroyer whispered death throughout the night. A group of the Paladins turned against the gods and called themselves The Betrayers. A farmboy was blessed by the false god, The Destroyer, with the power of unending fire. A Citizen's Militia rose up to overthrow the current rulers and the Immortal King. The Only True Gods haven't been answering prayers lately...

There was chaos everywhere, and the whole kingdom was on the verge of self-destruction.

The very few who still worshiped the False Goddess did so in secret. They would lock themselves in their houses, out of fear of being discovered and shamed. However, they all hated this death and destruction: it was against everything their chosen deity claimed.

They pleaded for mercy, a way out.

One by one, they felt they would soon escape all this. Nobody whispered these things to them. Nobody came by and reassured them. It was the rocks and the plants and the wind - nature itself - that told them to watch for a sign.

Many believed it would soon come.

Nothing happened for forty-eight days. However, on the forty-ninth day, when public unrest was peaking, each follower of the False Goddess felt they had to get ready. They would soon leave. Each of them packed up and stood by their doors. However, they didn't leave - if they all left right now, the guards would halt them and detain them.

However, they didn't have to wait for long.

A woman with a red cloak and hood walked right into the gates, into the city. The guards tried to stop her, but they couldn't catch her. So they followed her through the city, as she was always just out of reach.

Soon, a hundred people were following her through the street - some trying to stop her, others wanting to see what would happen.

Finally, she reached the town square, right in front of the counsel building. She removed her hood, and the people kept their distance.

There she stood: hair as white as milk, skin as grey as ash. Her eyes burned with with a flame that could catch your soul on fire.

There are four Archimedean solids with 60 vertices: the truncated icosahedron, the rhombicosidodecahedron, the snub dodecahedron, and the truncated dodecahedron. The skeletons of these polyhedra form 60-node vertex-transitive graphs. There are also two Archimedean solids with 60 edges: the snub cube and the icosidodecahedron. The skeleton of the icosidodecahedron forms a 60-edge symmetric graph. Thank you, Wikipedia.
