What do you mean by Leader-type character? Also what OP level, books, relevant houserules. We need more info to be able to help you.

Do you mean leader as in the support-style classes from 4e or do you mean Leader as in having MINIONS!?

Also, what sources are available to you?

Minions, aiding allies, buffs, debuffs that sort of thing as for sources I'll list all the books the DM and I have abbreviated so its less hassle, also it's 3.5 .
PH,DMG,Mm1,2,3, EPH, CW,CM,CA,ToB,HoH, HoB,LM,LoM, and because I don't remember the abbreviation: draconomicon.

Race: Desert Half-Orc (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/environmentalRacialVariants.htm#desertHalfOrcs)
Build: Barbarian 1 / Half-Orc Paragon (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/races/racialParagonClasses.htm#halfOrcParagon) 2 / Warchief 3 / Legendary Leader 5 / Orc Warlord (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030301a) 3

Warchief is from Miniatures Handbook (Warchief can easily be replaced, for example by 1 level of Marshal (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20030906b) and more levels of Barbarian and Half-Orc Paragon).
Legendary Leader is from Heroes of Battle.

Feats:

The [leader] feats from Heroes of Battle are an obvious choice.

Another option is going with intimidate-related feats, see this handbook (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3809.0).

Marshal seems like the base class and then advance with Leadership and other ally-buffing abilities in your PrC.

If you can buy off LA:

Feytouched Marshal 2/Dread Necromancer 8*/Nightmare Spinner 4. Your hordes of minions work as debuffers, as do you, while you simultaneously boost your allies and minions.

*Please leave the debate over leaving DN at level 8 at the door; I'm aware this build violates the Practical Optimization Commandment about losing Caster levels.

Maybe a *dip* into Marshal, but you're much, much better off as a straight Bard 20 (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=8936.0) than as a Marshal 20.

Some interesting thoughts from JaronK on the subject of leadership mechanics in D&D. (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=3065.0) And the proper mmb link instead. (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=9963.0)

How are the minions working as debuffers?

Edit: Warweaver (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1473.0)(Heroes of Battle) with a Bard Cohort is always good. Though not as good as if Dragonfire Inspiration were on the table.

I suppose Warchanter(Complete Warrior) would be worth considering due to Song of the Legion's effects on summons and NPC mooks though it seems you don't have Libris Mortis so no Requiem feat for Bard+Undead goodness.

Making the Bard cohort into a Bardblade with the Song of the White Raven feat and Bard 4/Warblade or Crusader 14 would also be fairly good. Or just being a Bard4/Warblade16 or Bard4/Crusader16 yourself.

Start with the fact that many of them are/can be Undead, as should be obvious from a strong DN base. Couple it with the fact that I didn't list any Feats, many of which give precisely that ability, in particular when conjoined with the aforementioned . Pick some.

All I'm recollecting as far as feats for a Dread Necromancer to take in order to augment their undead minions is the Corpsecrafter line of feats, none of which actually have anything to do with giving debuffing capabilities to one's minions save for a certain interpretation of destructive retribution.

I don't recall Nightmare Spinner giving Awaken Undead or any other way to use your undead minions to debuff or otherwise give mindless undead any feats.

Obviously you're remembering something I am not, which is why I asked in the first place.

Orc Thrallherd/Orc Warlord/Extra followers feat.
Depending on if they stack and the precise description from the Orc Warlord PrC (I find it a bit chaotic and unruly to read...) if everything stacks and the bonus 200% is added to it, it's a 5x as much followers, if not it's 3x as much. That's still a lot.
Assembling small armies or form communes there.
And why Thrallherd? Because two f*cking cohorts only one level behind and better leadership scores easily achieved.
