I'm just wondering if there's a way to automate requesting read receipts for the PMs I send, so I don't have to check the box every time.

Well, there's always Greasemonkey. Specifically, this little gem (http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/181181) I whipped up in an embarrassingly short amount of time.
