Best explanation I have yet to find (also the first I'd heard of it, despite having an Adobe account), is today's XKCD (http://xkcd.com/1286/).

I am dissapoint at Adobe for not letting people know sooner; I do keep different passwords for different accounts, but, as noted in XKCD #792 (http://xkcd.com/792/), a lot of people don't.

Also, a clearer explanation of the title: The passwords are still encrypted. The password hints and emails are not encrypted.

Nice to know the companies that've quickly become household names are being really careful with our private data, eh? I'm just glad I've always been in that "only party that comes out looking smart" according to xkcd.

Heh. Since I use [other really big company that probably isn't that secure], the only people I need to worry about getting into my accounts are [meta]. Also, you can't see this because I said so.

Adobe actually sent an e-mail round regarding the security breach at least a week before that XKCD came out, so I'm not sure why you never got it. Spam filter, maybe?

I found the complete password file on a torrent the other day and have been checking for emails of friends and family, since many people don't even remember registering with Adobe, but did.

Not only I found friends and family, but on top of that, the password encryption is so weak that between the hints (why weren't these encrypted, anyway?), the block cipher, the symmetric encryption instead of hashing and a few known text blocks due to short passwords, it's not a big stretch to guess some of them.
