Hi people,

I need your help on this little quesiton:
Resilience (Su): When an elan takes damage, he can spend power points to reduce its severity. As an immediate action, he can reduce the damage he is about to take by 2 hit points for every 1 power point he spends.

This ability allows an Elan to reduce the damage they've taken. My question is the following: does the PC in question also negates the effects associated with the damage avoided?
Let's says a Wolf does 4 damage, so Elan uses his power to avoid 4 HP damage, does the trip occur as a free action, or has the Elan effectively avoided all kind of damage?
There are many monsters where damage is not the important part, but rather their associated effect, like trips, grabs and poisons.

What does the Racial ability mean by "damage"? Does it include only damage to HP, or Ability and others as well?

1) If an ability does not say "ability damage" then it means hp damage. Otherwise you could be blasting away people's Con or Int with Eldritch Blast.

2) The Elan is not protected from additional effects unless those effects specifically require damage to occur. A wolf's trip specifically requires a hit, not damage, and even if the Elan reduces the damage to zero, the attack still hit; he would therefore be subject to the trip normally.

3) Poison is a special case as there are multiple types. One only requires you to hit (contact poison) - the Elan will not be safe from this one. Another type requires damage to be inflicted (injury) - the Elan will be safe here. Disease works the same way.

So basically those effects that requires an injury to "enter" the system you believe they will be negated, but those only requiring a hit, wouldn't since the requisite was achieved by touching the Elan.

Well, he would be safe from certain abilities if he avoids all damage. Seems reasonable.
