 Hi, and welcome to The Sticks Awards!

:smallamused: The Sticks Awards are given to the best strips of all times, chosen by the polls here in the Playground. Each poll will have a group of 10 comics, chronologically chosen, and every hundred strips we'll have a "Best of the Hundred" poll, with the most voted strip of each previous poll.

:smallcool: Each poll will have the duration of a week. Voters can only pick one choice. Links are provided for people to re-read the comics. This week's poll features comics #91 to #100.

:smallwink: If you have any suggestions or comments, feel free to comment on this thread.

 Thanks for voting!

The first-ever use of "Explosive Runes?" The only question here is WHY IS A POLL EVEN NECESSARY??? Vaarsuvius' handwriting for the win!

dead men tell tales, no doubt about it. This strip had me laughing so many times.

1. Cocroach hotel. :redcloak: "closer.. closer.." Bwhahah :D

2. :xykon: ".. no, seriusly, thats pathetic":redcloak: "im well aware, sir"

3.":xykon: i need you to speak with dead" :redcloak: "... um, ok. hello sir, how are you today, this is lovely weather.."

4.:xykon: "thanks, the conjuring of his immortal soul saved me the inconvenience of digging out the spare set i keep in my desk." :redcloak: "sigh, i live to serve" Also pure gold

5. :roach: "hey babe, a motel!" :roach: "what kind of girl do you think i am?"

One of the best strips ever actually, loved it :D

I totally vote for Xykon talking to the dead!

"Thanks, the conjuring of his immortal soul saved me the inconvenience of digging out the spare set i keep in my desk!"

I mean come ON! Many of those strips are great, but that line is fantastic!

Thats the problem, when I first read it I think I cracked up. Now its such a running gag that I can't quite recall the hillarity. The sorcerer pie though, that still makes me grin, so I voted for the one that provided the most long-term amusement.

(not to mention I love those old fruit pies... especially cherry. Mmmmmm....)

I guess 95, for "Um, OK, hello sir, ho are you today? This is lovely weather-"

I voted for 95, which is currently winning, so that's good.

But my 2nd-favorite, 94, hasn't even gotten a vote yet. What!?!?!?

:roy: Wow, the sheer novelty of having a plan in advance is making me giddy!
Goblin: Actually, that's the aforementioned sulphur fumes.
:belkar: Meh. Either way.

I LOVE that conversation.

My 3rd pick would probably be the onset of the lovely Explosive Runes epoch, #91. At least it's got a decent number of votes.

Go Fruit Pie the Sorceror!

Mr_Saturn
2007-01-08, 07:59 PM
Actually...after reading #95, i believe that one is so much funnier.

It has like five jokes in it! darn...i voted for the wrong one....

Thus far those have been my favorite 'set of ten' strips.

"Dead Men Tell Tales" for me. Xykon and Redcloak for the win!

95 gets my vote. The speaking with dead was quite funny. And I laugh each time Xykon does that expression with the big (full-circle) eyes.

Damn this is a strong bunch of comics.... especially the Xykon ones which still get me laughing after several years... hmmm I'll roll a d10 for this vote then... too hard to decide...

Hurrah.... unlike the last two tens, in this one my favourites are winning! I voted for 95 (Xykon losing his keys) but 91 (Fruit Pie the Sorceror) was the other strong contender.

I had to make a very hard decision between 95 and 96.

96 came first, but really close to 95.

I agree, they've been a great ten (indeed, the last forty or so have contained a very high proportion of excellent strips). Of the eight so far, for me it's between 392 and 393, with 393 probably just sneaking it because it was so fun to work on the cryptograms.

Level-Up!
2007-01-09, 03:57 PM
'Twas hard to choose from 91(Fruit Pie sorcerer!) or 95(roach motel and Redcloak talking to Xykon) But I had to go with the former.

Terraxos
2007-01-09, 03:58 PM
I voted for 95 (Dead Men Tell Tales), which is one of the classic Xykon/Redcloak strips (and has a bunch of good jokes in it). My other favourites here are:
97 (Evil Plans) - more fun with Xykon and Redcloak.
93 (Teenage Wasteland) - solely for the oh-so-accurate image of Haley as 'Dark Mistress Shadowgale'. Still makes me laugh.
And 94 (The Path to Victory), which may not have many jokes, but is (for me) wonderfully reminiscent of far too many unimaginatively-designed dungeons.

I'm a little surprised to see 91 (Fruit Pie the Sorcerer!) coming second, but I suppose I shouldn't be... it does have a certain surreal weirdness.

Hmm... I wonder if Fruit-Pie is in any way related to the popcorn, milk duds and others from strip 301? Perhaps the plot here runs deeper than it seems!

91 is my favorite out of all of these, but "Teenage Wasteland" has the best name. (The Who FTW)

I voted for #95 because it has several punchlines. #96 came second, but it only really had one punchline and it's funnier now that it keeps coming back.

Teenage Wasteland, man. Seeing Haley as a teenager, and the goblins acting opposite to their parents was priceless.

I had to go with 92, as it is the genesis of one of the best running gags in the strip.

I do like #100, too.
