hey, I'm trying to put together a list of all the Dinosaurs from 3.5 sources. Now I don't need a full description, just what book to find them in and possibly the dinosaur names. I know of the Clawfoot and Glidewing in the eberron campaign setting, and I've got the first 4 monster manuals, but other than that I don't know of any. Basically making a druid who can only transform into dinosaurs, and I want to make sure there's enough dino's out there of various sizes to make sure this is worth it, from the lowly procompsagnathus to the mighty tyrannosaurus.

Wizards has on online monster database (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/lists/monsters&tablesort=2&tablefilter=dinosaur). It's a pretty good start.

If you are open to Dragon Magazine, issue 318 has more dinosaurs that are not on that monster database.

The keyword search is great too. It just misses the dinosaurs from Serpent Kingdoms (ceratosaur, pteranodon*, stegosaurus)

* Yes, I know that pteranodons are not dinosaurs but flying reptiles -- they're just listed under the "Dinosaur" entry.

Don't forget dire animals and other prehistoric mammals too if you are including other extinct modern day animals.

Thanks. Sto is stormwrack right? What is Sa?

nevermind, just saw the list under the list

Also, how do I look up issues of Dragon Magazine? is there a database option or are they subscription only?

There's a list at the bottom of the wizards.com page that says what each abbreviation means. Sa = Sandstorm.

The 3.5 editions of Dragon Magazine aren't in print anymore so you'll have to find another way to get ahold of the magazine content, but you can search for monsters from them by text-searching this page (http://www.aeolia.net/dragondex/monsters.html) for words such as "dinosaur" (be sure to only pursue entries that are listed as for "D&D3").

so is this how everyone seems to have instant encyclopedic knowledge of Dragon Magazine?

Fleshraker seems to be the go to dinosaur for druids wild-shaping judging by the various handbooks.

I always look things up before posting to make sure that I'm not making any mistakes; I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that for anything other than my personal area of interest (clerics), my knowledge is far from encyclopaedic. It's not worth memorizing D&D things when they're so easy to look up. I've coincidentally memorized a decent amount of cleric stuff simply through repetition and use.

Here's another monster list (http://monsterfinder.dndrunde.de) that I forgot I had bookmarked.

Dragon 318's versions of the pteranodon and the stegosaurus are somewhat different from the versions in Serpent Kingdoms. Smaller, for one thing.

The Serpent Kingdoms version of the pteranodon is pretty much the same as the Glidewing from Eberron Campaign Setting.

This is all awesome, thanks guys. One I can't find is procomsagnathus, I think it was just under compsagnathus. I know I've seen stats for this one before, but I just can't find them. Only reason I want this one is that its the only tiny dinosaur entry I've ever seen.

Don't forget the eagle (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/eagle.htm), hawk (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/hawk.htm), and raven (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/raven.htm).

Which are totally dinosaurs (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0797.html).

Needletooth swarms from MM3 are another way to represent compys as portrayed in the Jurassic Park II movie.

I think those are the only two "repeats" though.

You can play it as different species variants or younger versions of dinosaurs. I mean there were quite a few different species of stegosaurs, ceratopsians, sauropods, and ankylosaurs of example.

Like the Cave Tyrannosaurus instead of the regular? Its pretty good, 9hd and large, as opposed to 18hd and huge. Can get the look of the Rex much earlier.

Don't forget the Cave versions in the Miniatures Handbook: Cave Ankylosaurus, Cave Triceratops, and Cave Tyrannosaurus, all large-sized.

The Dragon 318 Stegosaurus also uses its back plates as an defensive weapon (separate from the tail spikes) whereas the Serpent Kingdoms version rears up and kicks out with its front legs.

On the bright side, at least neither use their back plates to fly, the way some stegosaurus portrayals do.

Behold, the wonders of the stegosaurus! (http://blogs.smithsonianmag.com/dinosaur/2012/05/the-fantastic-gliding-stegosaurus/) (For extra fun, note the human in the illustration)

MM 3 I believe has the ever amazing Battletitan Dinosaur. You'd never be able to wild shape into it.... but you could use it for lycanthropy!

Create an entire army from scratch by turning them into lycanthropes. Super fast. Super cheap. Super easy.

You know, if you want to take over the world or something.
