Hi,

What books/materials can I look at that cover the general topic of 'making pacts with devils' within D&D?

Because making a pact with a devil/archdevil in order to subversively infiltrate and bring down a Demonking in exchange for a promise of power/place in devil paradise, and using the group to achieve his aims, is just exciting for me to play. :D

Many thanks,

Karnith

Fiendish Codex II has a fairly detailed section on making Faustian pacts with Devils, including two different types of pacts (Pacts Certain and Pacts Insidious), general terms of said pacts, and appropriate rewards.

The Book of Vile Darkness has rules for religious sacrifices, including using the entire planar binding series of spells based on knowledge: religion checks. Killing a group of people to call up a devil and make a pact with it is flavorful and doesn't require actually being a full caster.

Of course casters have the easiest time, especially Clerics, but a Factotum or Dragon Fire Adept should be able to pull it off.
