The Good League of Good is a Nexus organization devoted to the care and support of those in need, a sanctuary for those that need it, and the redemption of evildoers. The organization strives to make the campsite a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

Charitable Activities:
GLoG performs good works such as caring for distressed individuals in need, housing and feeding evacuees from the city during disasters, and healing sick and injured people in GLoG's infirmary - renowned as the most advanced place of healing in the Nexus.

Our Redemption Program:
Individuals who come in search of redemption should be interviewed by a member to see how their needs can be best met, and then assigned to a mentor who will assist them. Graduation from the redemption program will occur when both the redemee and his/her mentor agree that they have made sufficient progress.

Attention villains:
Conflict is great! It's the heart of any story, and there isn't much to roleplay without it. However, as a player to player courtesy, please check in with the players who are active at any given time before launching an attack. Not everyone wants to roleplay combat scenes, and sometimes there are other things going on (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0497.html) that players don't want to interrupt for a random fight. Either a PM/IM to players, a short post in thread to say ((Mind if I introduce a villain here?)) or a longer post in the OOC thread if it's a larger plot is appreciated.

Also, please don't plan any villainy that will result in destroying the base or having the same effect (poisoning the lake, burning down the forest, etc.) without the consent of the majority of the players who would be affected.

Base Defences:
he GLoG campsite is now under the effects of the spell Plaza of Downcast Eyes. Almost all teleportation and scrying spells are blocked.

A Spirit Charm has been placed on the GLoG grounds. A number of willing spirits serve to protect the grounds. See the Miscellaneous Inhabitants section for more information.

There is a perimeter of cactus plants to encourage anyone on foot to enter by one of the main entrance points.

If any of your characters add more defences, please PM them to Gulaghar so they can be added.

If you're a newbie, and you've read this far, you should know enough to join in the fun.

After the original GLoG building was destroyed by an army of catpeople, the survivors took out a mortgage and purchased Phoenix Lake Campground. Facilities include the main lodge house, a bathhouse with separate male and female sections, a stable (one horse present, a chestnut mare named Fancy owned by Dr Burnett), various picnic shelters, and a few scattered cabins. It's set in the foothills of the Acro mountains, and mainly surrounded by woods. There are many hiking trails nearby leading to mountaintop vistas, waterfalls, seacoves, and various other locations, both within this thread, and in the Outside thread. The campground is also within easy walking distance of the city of Inside, though there is also a Riftline station just outside the campground for those who prefer to take the train or who have farther to go.

At the lake, there is a small dock with a little shed nearby where a few canoes and paddleboats are stored. The swimming area has a GIANT slide and a rope swing. Because GIANT slides and rope swings are awesome. :smallbiggrin: There is a sandy volleyball court not far from the slide, a playground under the trees, set back from the lake somewhat, and a set of horseshoe pits.

Buildings:
Main Lodge: This large building contains an industrial kitchen with a cafeteria style serving area, and an open space that was once used as the dining hall. The space is warmed by a massive fireplace. Bunk beds are lined up on one end of the hall, opposite the kitchen, and a few comfy chairs and sofas are beginning to appear around the fireplace as they are procured. The building itself is made of stone.

Infirmary: If no PC is present in the Infirmary, patients are tended to by Nurse Piper, a ghost NPC who haunts the infirmary. Despite being a ghost, she is solid enough when managing anything to do with nursing. She has a tyrannical bedside manner, but will always put the welfare of her patients first. She is able to generally stabilize patients and do general nursing care, but cannot provide magical healing or any type of advanced medicine that would normally be performed by a doctor.

The outside of the infirmary looks just like all the rest of the buildings. Nothing distinguishes it at all. But inside, everything is white, with silver highlighting. Even though it doesn't seem possible, when looking from outside, sunlight filters inside. Giving the place a warm feeling with natural light. A soft, soothing music filters through the whole building and voices can barely be heard saying words of healing and comfort, like: "You are going to be okay." "We'll take care of you." "You are dear to us." and so on.

Each room is walled off for a limited amount of privacy, because the pixies know that humans seem to need this. Strange. But it is limited. There are no doors. The wall's angles are severe, so that people on the other side of the hall can't see into anyone's room. Only someone intentionally looking in, can see you.

Cabins: Individuals can have their own room within a cabin, but they are unlikely to have a full cabin to themselves unless they come equipped with a family. Some of the cabins have been rebuilt, so may have more space than the 4 room cabins the campground came with, and a few cabins have had private bathrooms installed. All cabins are named after trees, and players are free to invent further details about their own cabins.

Cabins coloured green are currently unavailable for new inhabitants, with the reason listed next to the cabin name. Typically this means a cabin is occupied by a family or has all its rooms filled.

The bolded buildings are not cabins of the usual sort and are not usually occupied by normal members. Few exceptions exist.

Visitor's Cabin - Apple is reserved for visitors who do not want to stay at the lodge. They are requested to check in at the main lodge, where any member can give them permission to stay for a few days. Longer than that, and unless they are in need, they would be requested to either join or move to their own place or one of the local inns.

Bathhouse: This building is divided into the men's and women's bathhouses, with entrances at either end. It has shower stalls, a line of sinks, and toilet stalls in each.

Workshop: A well built cabin designed by Reelshka, containing nothing at present but the Mainframe installation. It is locked. Drones fly in and out of a small entrance that opens for them when they send an encrypted signal.

Miscellaneous Inhabitants:
The Spirits
Recently in the history of GLoG, a protective charm has been placed over the GLoG grounds. The shaman Pathfinder bid all the willing spirits that perished in and around GLoG to protect the grounds from those that would wish to do it and its inhabitants harm.

At the current time, Morty controls the spirits for the most part.

The Drones Mk 2
The drones are back at GLoG (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10099372#post10099372). Drones are NPCs who can be played by anyone, within the guidelines below:

Their Primary Function is member safety.
They no longer have teleport beams or alignment scanners.
They do have stun beams, little arms, and the ability to record what's going on around them.
They follow orders, unless those orders conflict with their Primary Function.
There are only 4-5 in operation at any one time.
They can be destroyed, but if so, they'll be restored from backup.
A few have been supplied with medical programming, and thus can be godmodded for infirmary duties.
They often have weird personality quirks and are prone to malfunctioning.
Statement: They speak in DarkOrange FixedSys
The only named drone (so far) is Caretaker, who is a private drone charged with protecting Brinika and controlled by Morty.

The Ghosts
Having been built on a Generic Ancient Burial Ground, Phoenix Lake Campground is haunted by various ghosts. They are generally harmless, and for the most part glad to have some company, though pranks and hijinks may occur. Ghosts can be NPC'd by anyone unless they are listed as PCs in the following list. They tend to speak in Gray, and mostly appear for comic purposes, but this is by no means a requirement.

"Well, I have been thinking about a project. I sometimes hear things that says that GLoG isn't really helping people. So, I was thinking of doing something about that, namely opening a restaurant in the city. I figure that we could organize a way to make sure that people could get food, and provide some jobs."

Marley holds his cane tight, nervous about how his idea might be received.

"Her Lolth sounds pretty evil and badass. Maybe after you're rested up we should go kill her. I'm sure a good old god slaying will help wash away any unimportant feelings you might have." He looks back at Tovia. "Besides. You're important to me."

Hekta actually looks to be in her early teens and still acts rather childish. "That sounds gross. I don't even think I have blood." This coming from a person who used to live in the sewers.

Once Anchor is done she have another question. "Do I get something sweet now?"

Had to be some other factor to cause them to meet, something serious, that just had the clones on the docket of something to discuss while there. Still, pretty bad.

Reinholdt would love to fade into obscurity, but his own nature keeps him coming back for more, even at a detriment to his own well being. He's addicted to danger, but he dreams of a quiet, uneventful life.

Something him and Tobias will never see eye to eye on.

"Really? Huh. Well, I could teach you some basic Conjuration if you like; nothing too major. Mostly I know the basics, the more powerful stuff I know I've never used and might backfire." As a demonstration, Natalie holds her right hand out open, closes it, clicks the fingers on her left hand and, with a burst of red light (slightly darker than it originally was), opens her hand to reveal an origami crane made of yellow paper sat on her palm.

"Oooooh. I'd love to learn how to do that!" Jamie, her eyes wide, leans in close and gently probes at the crane with her fingertip, as if she's making sure it's real.

The crane is, indeed, real; like many of the small objects Natalie conjures in this manner, she teleported it from her pocket to her hand.

Any symbolic meaning behind one, yellow origami crane is completely accidental; I just thought of the colour on the spot.

"I'll teach you the magic part of my tricks, but some are sleight-of-hand, and those I won't teach. Stage magic is more fun when I can show it off." The difference being her IME; like characters from Thunt's Goblins webcomic, Natalie and many of my characters possess an Individual Magic Effect that displays whenever they use magic and represents the type and source of magic, their personality, and their soul to the world. "Also, I'd like your parent's permission first- if they're planning on teaching you magic further down the line, it might not be compatible with what I know."

Tovia is touched by Anchor and the calming effect slows her down. She's slowed down enough that when she collides with Xenna outside the Infirmary, it's just a gentle bump. Hey! She concentrates, and a wall of stone appears in front of the door. She collapses to her knees, exhausted.

Reelshka doesn't speak for a while, too tired and happy to do so. The wolf-goblin baby stirs a little when Pathfinder strokes his head, but doesn't wake up. Eventually, she gathers her strength and says:

"He looks just like I imagined."

Her sister, meanwhile, beamed at her nephew and his parents without saying anything. Now she's gone to the door of the infirmary and appears to be whispering to Brinika that no, she can't come in and see the baby yet.

"Better, even." The shaman whispers before attempting to crawl up into the bed with the two in order to hold them close and keep them warm. Once he does that, he raises his voice a bit, smiling slightly. "Brinika, I think you and the others can come in now."

"You were a lot smaller than that, Brinika," her mother whispers back with amusement.

The ritual will turn me back into my normal, manly self. Tovia stares at Anchor thoughtfully while taking off her labcoat. She's not wearing anything underneath. All right, let's break this down. This ritual is very important to me. I've done the calculations and I am confident that I currently have enough magical energy to pull it off. But if I cast any spells, I may not have the required juice. Engaging in combat will completely ruin my chances. Now, if you really tried, I have no doubt that you could make a real fight of this. I'd have to burn spells just to stop you from stopping me, which would stop me anyway, you know? But I need this. I can't tell you how much I'd hate postponing this ritual even by one day. If you stop me, it would be in your best interest to kill me outright, because I'll hold a grudge forever. If you were to keep anyone else from stopping me, however, I'd be in your debt. My enmity or my gratitude. Which would you rather have?

Tovia holds up her head, as it were, and struts in her gait to her office. Anchor is free to walk through the door or climb in through a window, but the enchantments on the walls preclude intangible ingress. Let's get this party started! METIS, initiate Project Eve.

The hologram of the older, grey-eyed woman pops up. Tobias, the ritual is only 80% written out. The remaining 20% will draw greatly on your own energy without the guiding incantations. This is nominally within acceptable tolerance, but I detect many indicators of fatigue currently present in your body, as well as increased dopamine levels.

"You may my glories and my state depose,
But not my griefs; still am I king of those."
With a gesture, Tovia orders her AI to project the Druidic words of the ritual.
"I wasted time, and now doth time waste me".

Rein's not going to wait five minutes for Quinn to catch up or the thing to dissolve. After about 15 seconds of knocking on it, he'll go and open a window, turn into a cat, and leap out. He considered crashing through it dramatically like the old days, but figures it unnecessary. Admittedly, that's half the point of the dramatic.

Still, he'd prefer leaping out as a cat, because he's actually fast on his feet as a cat. He notes passed out Xenna, briefly as he goes by. So if Quinn waits the full five minutes, she'll be there far after he gets there. But he's still behind Anchor, because stalling worked, at least a bit. Not far behind though, unless Xenna pulls something else to slow him down.

"Don't worry if they say no- I'm only confident about summoning small objects from small distances. The crane was in my pocket. I can summon light from other places, but that doesn't always work and I know the theory behind summoning monsters, but I've got no experience in the last as I've never practised it. As far as Conjuration goes, I don't know anything especially interesting." But Jamie hasn't seen her summon light.

Once the ritual's started, Rein considers it far too dangerous for Rein to interfere. So there's hesitation, lest he accidentally make things worse.

"OK. First, a simple teleportation. I know exactly where what I want is, and if I didn't, it wouldn't work. I'll have the crane back, now." Natalie clicks her fingers and the crane disappears in a flash of red light, teleported back into her pocket. "I don't have to click my fingers; I need to do something to activate the magic, say or do something to help channel the energies. I could whistle, or point. Clicking my fingers is how I learnt, though, so it's a part of most of my magic. This next bit's harder, and you haven't seen it before, and I can't always get it to work." Natalie clicks both hands, creating a red flash and a series of hearts and diamonds to orbit her head as a miniature sun appears just behind Jamie; it's light summoned straight from the sun, the magic maintaining a small portal that doesn't let the heat through. It also blocks some of the light, so the resultant orb is much colder in appearance than the true sun.

Reinholdt exclaims, frustrated and afraid and ashamed all at the same time. Was Tovia right and was he completely lacking trust? Why? This was stupid, he was just his friend Tobias and nothing more than a friend he's watching out for and any of these feelings are just desperate attempts to cling to something solid, not actual feelings, because he's not allowed to have those, because horrible things happens when he has those. So it must be his fault someh-

"Anchor no!" Reinholdt moves to grab Anchor and pull her off of Tovia, afraid she'll cause some interference of some delicate process that's going on that she can't see. Always something she can't see.

Tovia shies away from Reinholdt's shouting and has the good grace to look embarrassed. For a few seconds. Hey, now you're just twisting my words around, kid. The Druidess glares at Anchor before turning to her wife, all charm and smile. Oh, there you are, Quinn. I was wondering what Reinholdt had done to you. I'd appreciate it if you could remove this girl from my lab for me. I'm not sure if she's intentionally lying or if she just didn't listen closely enough, but either way she's interfering with my project. If just one of these three tries hard enough, they could stop the ritual before it gets started. There's nothing she could do to stop them. But sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand.

Tovia fixes Rein with a cross look. Out of all my sins and negative traits, I have never gotten so much heat for being selfish. I must have missed the memo where I always had to work for others and wasn't allowed to do something just because I wanted it. If you're so adamant that my ritual is a bad idea, then why don't you shoot me? Then Quinn can raise me, or go get Tony to do it instead, and I wouldn't have to spend another day in this sick costume!

She turns to Quinn and feels her heart sink as the brunette turns away. Okay, maybe the sleep deprivation did affect her judgment, because she clearly went too far trying to "win" this without noticing how serious everyone else was taking it... but the calculations were done after she got back from Riverside, before she stopped sleeping. The ritual would have succeeded.

Quinn... I won't even pretend I'm doing this for anyone other than myself. Even though both Quinn and Rein will benefit from it. But when you fell in love with me I actually did things. Do you remember those days? She crosses her arms and frowns. I... I need to do things again. To solve puzzles and push myself, mind, body, and magic, as far as I can go. Because that's the only way to get better. The only way to truly live. I'm not self-destructive. I'm not i-insane. Every seriously awful thing that's ever happened to me, happened because I was too weak to stop it. I m-massacred all those Selinites because I couldn't beat their evil gods fairly. I couldn't keep T-tony from murdering Cat. I... wanted to help people, once. B-b-but... Where was she going with this? What play was she trying to make? Surely she wouldn't be so stupid as to open her mouth and spew rambling nonsense out in a desperate attempt to keep those she loves from hating her forever. I'm an awful person. Because vampires are dangerous, and being over confident through formal training often gets would-be vampire hunters killed when the vampires do something unexpected.

Toby takes a few moments to collect herself, then begins the ritual. All other distractions are pushed to the back burner of her mind so she can concentrate on chanting the complex Druidic spell he has prepared. An hour in, he's back to his normal male body. That's what he wanted. He could stop the ritual now with no problems at all. Come back and do the other half tomorrow. Alea iacta est. Ἀνερρίφθω κύβος. One of those two. He doesn't even hesitate before continuing.

A discrete aurora lights up the night sky, despite GLoG's forest not being near the magnetic poles of the Nexus. It's an unusual sight, to say the least. The campgrounds are bathed in blue and green light. This lasts for a few hours before streaks of red appear in the aurora. Excited oxygen atoms gather together in vulpine forms and chase each other across the azure ribbons of the ionized nitrogen in the atmosphere. They are harbingers of what happens an hour later: an even greater release of energy emanating from the Medical Laboratory. You have to be sensitive to magic in order to notice it, but to those with that sense it stands out as boldly as a klaxon or a pungent spice. The sheer amount of power being used in the Med Lab is even noticeable across the entire Nexus, like a lighthouse on a moonless night. Powered by nuclear fusion. This is the level of energy that gives the Gods pause. It's also detectable by scientific and other technological scanners. The pretty aurora lights are caused by the energy doing an electromagnetic dance in the thermosphere after all. Satellites may be temporarily disrupted, if any happen to be over GLoG at the time. This is Tobias' message to everyone. A dramatic declaration that he will not fade away into obscurity, another permadeadtimed and forgotten character. He will remain relevant to the Nexus at any cost. There's no ignoring this.

Hours into his ritual, Toby is struggling. He's run out of words to read. The remaining 20% lacks the spoken Druidic incantation to give his magic efficient direction. Now he's just pouring all of his energy into the incomplete spell to brute-force it into success. Toby was confident he'd have enough juice to pull through, but that ugly fight took a toll. You never realize just how badly you've screwed up until someone you cares about gives up on you. But it's too late to turn back. Too late for a lot of things. All the Druid cares about right now is creating his second chance.

You can't manipulate incredible power without it affecting the body. Since Toby's magic is highly cerebral, that's where the stress is occurring. He can feel the pressure in his skull. His pulse pressure widens. His breathing becomes irregular. There's a reduction of his heart rate. Cushing reflex. ****. He forgot. He was going to order METIS to administer appropriate amounts of nimodipine and ziconotide. Seeing how badly he was hurting Quinn had driven the thought completely out of his mind. Now it's too late. The stress of the spellcasting increased intracranial pressure. When the pressure in his cerebrospinal fluid exceeded his mean arterial blood pressure, arterioles in his brain compressed and cut off blood flow. His body's nervous system automatically attempts to correct, increasing blood pressure to try and force blood into the brain. This vasopressor response triggers a different section of his nervous system, which attempts to regulate the hypertension by decreasing heart rate. If the blood can't get into his hypoxic brain, he'll suffer a cerebral infarction. Brain herniation is also likely. So is cerebral hemorrhage. Toby knows he's only minutes away from perfectly finishing the ritual, but he's seconds away from stroking out.

He pours out the last of his energy into a last-ditch effort to save himself while minimizing the flaws to the result. He skips to the end of the ritual and ties it all together, chanting the final Druidic phrase on his way to meet the floor with his face. It's done. Mostly. At a great cost. The high BP combines with the impact of the hard floor and several vessels burst. Bleeding from the nose and mouth, Toby weakly mutters. I'm sorry. I couldn't... I'll fix you. I swear. But she's already gone.

For a few hours she doesn't care. Magic leads to floating lights all too often. but finally the level of magic happening is too overwhelming. Wherever she is, Anchor turns back towards the med lab. "What is she doing? She...lied? It doesn't take nearly this much energy."

He makes the "V for Victory" sign and passes out. It didn't kill him after all! That's totally Mission Accomplished, right?

"Support? I um... I well... errr..." No one's ever asked him that before. He needs to think about it, and certainly not on an empty stomach. "Food's a good start, thank you. I've been working all day." He'll accept some of the offered berries and nuts. Not the best meal, but it's something.

Brand gets a very serious look on his face. "You should always make sure to eat well. If you're going to be away, stop by the kitchen first, and one of us will pack you up a meal - or several - to keep you going. It can be handwaved offscreen even! It isn't wise to go hungry."

Outside -> Oak Cabin -> Med Lab

When the lights appear in the sky, Tanar thinks to himself, I didn't know this camp was in the far north of this world. And foxes? I guess there is a lot I have yet to learn about this world. He returns to his cabin.

An hour later, Tanar feels the air vibrating. His cat begins pacing around the room very alert. "Come on, Lena. Let's see what's going on" he says. Tanar grabs his staff and exits the cabin.

Entering the Medical Lab, he mumbles a few phrases to cast Detect Magic. Lena follows immediately behind him. Then, he says, "What is going on here!"

Quinn wastes no time in channeling a healing spell, hoping it will stabilize Toby even as she checks for any injuiries that would prevent him from being moved.

Xenna just sits down confused.

Brand shakes his head. "Even with the gardening, foraging and trapping that my family does, and the milk and eggs from our livestock, we still have to order in a large amount of food to feed so many people. For GLoG to feed itself and provide extra food, every member would need to work towards food production in some way, and we'd need to clear acres of forest for agriculture. It simply isn't feasible for us to supply a restaurant, Marley."

[Med Lab]

Detect Magic yields interesting results. The entire building is lit up with three different sources of magic, but all from the same Druid. There are strong wards meant to contain dangerous pathogens inside the secure hot lab. A hologram of an older woman stands in the office, apparently some sort of magical construct tied to sigils and runes painted onto the walls and ceilings. And then there is residual magic left over from the prior release of energy. All in all, Tanar may be blinded by all the powerful magic present in the Med Lab if he's not careful.

Toby is stabilized and does not appear to have any other injuries.

[Camp Exit]

Well, now you can't say I didn't warn you. She follows Rein into the cab and gives the driver directions to her Riverside apartment. It's a long ride, so there is time for questions. Or awkward silence.

Hekta simply drops everything she doesn't stop in her mouth (or anything somehow ending up outside her mouth) on the floor. "Much so mar mumuch." She tells Aurelia. I have frankly no idea what she's trying to say with all that food in her mouth but Aurelia might end up with some demon saliva and bread crumbs in the face as she speaks.
