Hey guys,

So I've been trying to find some flight options for my warlock character. I know there are plenty out there, but so far, I've just decided to stick with the Fell Flight invocation in lieu of anything else (though I'm open for suggestions).

Fell Flight allows me to get a flight speed of 30 ft. with good maneuverability for 24 hours. However, I'm not sure how this flight interacts with armor.

According to Dragon Magic (because it's the only place I could find a straightforward ruling):

Flying creatures can’t fly in medium or heavy armor or when carrying a medium or heavy load.

However, those rules were tied specifically to the use of wings. Without wings, as through the Fell Flight invocation, would armor limit my ability to fly past the fly speed itself?

The general rules on flight (under Special Abilities (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/specialAbilities.htm)) is that you cannot fly at all with a medium load. Armour of any kind, however, is fine.

Both fly and overland flight do take issue with armour, though.

Both fly and overland flight allow for reduced speeds in medium/heavy armor, and the same for carrying a medium/heavy load, so it's a case of "specific trumps general." Too bad the Warlock's fell flight doesn't actually reference the fly spell.

Fell flight features wings though. Or rather a winglike cape of shadows. :smalltongue:

And yes, fell flight follows the normal rules for flight, rather than those described in the fly spell. Which means medium and heavy armor reduce your flight speed, assuming you aren't carrying more than a light load, in which case you can't fly at all. As a warlock, you shouldn't be wearing more than light armor anyway.

So in other words, you're actually even more awesome than you think?
