Oh, it's you! We were watching your Playground, and we were surprised! Your Playground was holding a Thread! We don't know how it got there, but your Playground had it. You do want it, don't you?

Pokémon Thread XVIII: Day Care Man Doesn't Know How It Got Here

IMPORTANT: Remember to update your copy of X/Y to v1.1, as explained here (http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1061).

These are friend codes (May be out of date/incomplete: If they are, post your new codes now and I'll fix them). For your friends. If you're not on here? It means you're not friendly. Or that for whatever reason your codes didn't get put here. If you're not here, just mention it whenever you can. Additions in the thread will be added to the end of the respective list, and then will (if I remember) be re-alphabetized after a "reasonable time period." (Probably 1/week or 1-2/month, depending on how fast the thread goes)

Friend codes, for the uninitiated, are how you connect with other players. The DS (and thus Gen IV & V games) uses a different Friend Code for each game you have, while the 3DS uses one Friend Code for the system.

So, you're tired of navigating a Pokemon thread where everyone uses fancy words and stuff? Well no worries! Here's a guide on... BREEDING FOR DUMMIES!

One of the first things to remember in breeding is that there are Natures that help and ones that hinder. For instance, a Special Attacker such as Mewtwo would be hindered by an Adamant nature, but helped in his stat growth by a Modest nature. To improve your chances for getting a particular Nature in a child Pokémon, use at least one parent with the Nature you want, and give it the Everstone. In Gen IV, the Everstone doesn't guarantee the inherited Nature, though it does in Gen V and VI.

Brilliant Spreadsheet for Growth (http://pokemon.marriland.com/statcalc_dp.php).

Some IVs (don't know what an IV is? Check the next spoiler box!) are randomly inherited from the parents. You can lock in a maximum of one IV by giving a parent the corresponding Power training item (Power Bracer for Attack, Power Lens for Special Attack, and so forth), or (starting with XY) randomly inherit 5 (instead of the normal 3) by holding the Destiny Knot. Use Flat Battles to determine the IVs of a hatched Pokémon, or if you only care about the highest IV and the sum of all of its IVs, you can take it to a guy who's in the lobby of either the Battle Tower or the Battle Subway in the DS games, depending on the generation, and in the Kiloude City Pokémon Center in XY. You're looking for them to judge it Relatively Superior overall and Can't Be Better in its best stat. The XY judge will also tell you about any really bad IVs the Pokémon has.

The third main thing with breeding is Egg Moves. Egg moves are moves the parent has, and passes down to a child. For instance, in my breeding of Chimchar, the egg moves are Grass Knot and Swords Dance, which are passed down to the child who gets said moves from the start. In order to pass on most Egg Moves, the father must know the move (Genderless Pokémon never learn Egg Moves). These include all of the moves that are listed as the child Pokémon's Egg Moves in a move list chart, as well as any compatible TMs or HMs. You can also pass on moves that the child would learn by level-up that aren't in those two lists--for these, both parents must know the move. In XY, some moves can be inherited from the mother...

The fourth and final thing to keep in mind are Hidden Abilities. Starting in Generation V, most Pokémon were assigned an additional ability that they could only get if you caught them under certain circumstances (the special Darmanitan in Desert Resort, or Pokémon found in hidden grottoes, the Dream World, or some in Friend Safaris). Some Hidden Abilities are highly sought-after, like Dragonite's Multiscale. If the mother has the Hidden Ability, the children will inherit it. The father can occasionally pass down the Hidden Ability if bred with a Ditto.

Dr. Strangemon or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Min-Max
Don't feel the need to bother with this stuff unless you're playing against humans or at one of those "Battle Whatever" places. You shouldn't need it for most of the game, and it can be kind of a pain.

First, the equations. These are how the game calculates the Pokémon's final stats.
HP = (IV + 2*Base + EV/4) * Level/100 + 10
Others = ((IV + 2*Base + EV/4) * Level/100 + 5) * Nature
So, at level 100, 1 IV or 4 EV raises a Pokémon's stat by 1 while a 1 point difference in Base stat is worth 2.

Nature
Most natures raise one stat and lower another, while some don't change any stats. A raised stat has a multiplier of 1.1 (or +10%), a lowered stat has a multiplier of 0.9 (or -10%), and a neutral stat has a multiplier of 1.0.

Base Stats (Base)
With a new generation just out, there's a lot of talk about finding out about a Pokémon's base stats. What are these, some of you ask? Well, they're modifiers to stats that a Pokémon gains just by being that kind of Pokémon. A (normal) Tyranitar has a base Attack of 135, a Mewtwo has 154 base Special Attack, and so on. When a Pokémon's stats change as it Mega Evolves or changes Form, it does so by changing the set of base stats it looks at. Otherwise, these base stats can't be changed (hence the "base"). At level 100, a Pokémon gets twice its Base stat to its final stats.

Individual Values (IV)
In addition to base stats, every Pokémon gets a bonus of 0-31 points applied to each stat. So a level 100 Tyranitar could have an attack stat of 273, or it could have a attack of 304. That bonus is the IV.
A Pokémon has its IVs generated the moment you meet it, or accept its egg, and there's no way to change them. You're stuck with what you've got. However, you can influence them a little, if you're willing to breed. Bred Pokémon don't randomly generate all their IVs, they inherit up to 3 from their parents. In XY, giving a parent the Destiny Knot causes them to inherit five random IVs instead. There's a few other ways of influencing IVs in bred Pokémon, which are explained in the breeding section.
In addition, in XY, some Pokémon are guaranteed to have some "perfect" (31) IVs. Pokémon found in the Friend Safari will have two random perfect IVs, while Pokémon that can't breed will have 3.

Effort Values (EV)
Every time you win a fight, your Pokémon get experience, but that's not all they get. Every Pokémon also gives out effort points. For every 4 effort points in a particular stat, your Pokémon gains 1 point in it. So if that Tyranitar from earlier with 304 attack had 4 attack EVs, his actual attack would be 305. If he had 252 attack EVs, it'd be 367. Sounds handy, but there are limits. You can't have more than 255 points in a single stat, and you can't have more than 510 EVs in total.

You'll see a lot of Pokémon with 252 attack/special attack EVs, 252 speed, and 4 HP, but there are a lot of ways to configure them. Defensive Pokémon will obviously focus on different things, Pokémon which use both physical and special attacks will need to split EVs between them or possibly sacrifice speed, and so on.

It's a tremendous pain to work out what EVs your Pokémon has (if you weren't keeping track, anyway), so you'll likely want to start with a Pokémon that you freshly hatched and work from there, though you don't have to. There are 6 berries that reduce EVs in a single stat each, so you can use those to reset your Pokémon and start from scratch. After that, just keep a careful record of what you fight, and only take down Pokémon that you know give you the EVs you want.

EV training takes a while, but there are a few ways you can speed it up. The first is an astonishingly rare status condition called Pokérus. Any Pokémon with Pokérus gets double EVs from fights, and will spread the Pokérus to any Pokémon in your party for the first 72 hours after it catches it. After those 72 hours it stops being contagious, but still gets double EVs. Pokérus has something like 1/20000 chance to appear on wild Pokemon, but with the magic of the internet I'm sure you can obtain it.

The second way to speed up EV training is through Power Items. If a Pokémon is holding the right item, they get bonus EVs from every fight. For example, a Pokémon holding a Power Lens will get 4 special attack EVs. A Pokémon holding a Power Anklet will get 4 speed EVs. A Pokémon holding a Macho Brace will just get double the EVs of whatever they're fighting. These bonuses are doubled if you have Pokérus.

The third way to speed up EVs is through vitamins. Each vitamin given to a Pokémon gives them +10 EVs in a certain stat, up to a limit of 100. 1 protein gives 10 attack EVs, 10 give 100. These unfortunately aren't doubled by Pokérus or items, so you'll have to pay for the full amount. Luckily money is easy to come by in these games.

Just as an example, I'll show how I EV'd my Gengar.
First, I gave him 10 calcium, and 10 carbos, so 100 special attack and 100 speed already.
After that, I gave him Pokérus and a lucky egg, got him to meet a Floatzel (2 speed EVs, doubled to 4 because of Pokérus), and then sent out my Weezing to explode on it so Gengar could get all the experience, for a higher level and 100 special attack, 104 speed.
After that, I gave him a Power Lens, flew over to the Old Chateau, and killed 15 Gastly (1 special attack from Gastly, 4 from the lens, doubled to 10 from Pokérus) for 150 special attack EVs, bringing my total to 250 special attack, 104 speed.
After that I equipped a power anklet and killed one more Gastly (1 special attack from Gastly, 4 speed from the anklet, doubled to 2 and 8 from Pokérus), meaning Gengar had 252 attack, and 112 speed.
Leaving the anklet equipped, I flew to Route 201, and killed 14 Starly (1 speed from Starly, 4 from the anklet, meaning 10 speed per starly thanks to Pokérus), for a total of 252 attack, 252 speed.
All that was left after that was to kill a Bidoof with a Power Weight (1 HP from Bidoof, 4 from the Weight, 10 thanks to Pokerus, although I only gained 6 points because I hit the EV cap), leaving my Gengar with 252 special attack EVs, 252 Speed, and 4 HP, just how I wanted him.
Roughly an hour's work, and one Pokemon down.

In XY, there's an additional method of EV training, which doesn't involve beating up wild Pokémon, but you instead play minigames (called Super Training) with the Pokémon. This lets you choose which stat you'll train, and awards you 4 EVs per difficulty level (so +4 for level 1, +12 for level 3). In addition, you may gain special training bags that can make further Super Training easier, reset your EVs entirely, or other effects. The training system also displays your earned EVs graphically (but not numerically), making it somewhat easier to keep track of a Pokémon's EVs.
tl;dr: The simplified version of EVs/IVs - EVs are gained by fighting other Pokémon. They vary by the Pokémon defeated. They increase your stats for every 4 gained. IVs are inherent to a Pokémon. They increase stats for every point possessed, and range from 0 to 31. EVs have to be manually tracked or else removed entirely with certain berries. IVs can be checked by knowing the EVs of a Pokémon and then plugging its stats into an IV calculator. The higher the Pokémon's level, the more accurate; level 100 wifi battles provide maximum accuracy.

Now, you might ask, "Mando Knight, how do you get those accented e's?" On a PC, change your keyboard layout to US-International, and press 'e. For some versions of Windows, if you don't want the US-International keyboard on all the time, you can also have it switch between different registered keyboards with a press of Ctrl+Shift. You can also copy-paste them from someone else's posts. Or the thread title.

And I'll use this post to remind anyone who wants a larvesta, ralts/kirlia or gible that they are available at Elhann's. They are the fruit of incest, but need a caring new trainer anyways.

Subscribing as well.

I'm going to have to get back to breeding Beldum, I've exhausted my supply by putting them on the GTS to complete my Pokedex. Now I've only got 23 left, but the only ones that will be hard will be the one's that require the special items to evolve. Plus, I get this thought every time...

"Should I evolve my Electabuzz now and get the pokedex credit, or should I try to breed a super IV one first, in case I ever want to use Electivire?"

Dratini, Scyther, Inkay, Staryu, Skiddo, Honedge, and soon to be Eevees open for trade, generally 4-5 IVs at 31.

Yeah, but they're kind of expensive, and I'm trying to get all the TMs and other item-evolvers, too. At least it's not like some games, where there's only one or limited number of those types of items.

I suspect the Clefable was trying to set up to use Stored Power- which would have been power boosted for all those defensive boosts.

Speaking of breeding, I have about 4 or 5 Jolly Larvitars with SR, DDance, and Outrage if anyone wants to trade for something.

Right now the big things I'm looking for are Sheer Force Bagon, and Gale Wings Fletchling
I would love one.

Hmmm. I don't have those things you want, but I can give you a 4IV gible, larvesta or ralts for one of the spares, if it works for you. Although I could breed you one Fletchling, if you must have one.

I would like a Larvesta if you still have some.

As always, my Fletchlings are ready to serve.

I would love one, I have Digletts w/ Reversal Memento, some 4 iv Mawiles, some 4 iv Honedges, some HA Shroomish's with Bullet seed, and some 3 iv Staryus.

Edit: Can I be listed as full friendlist for now? I'm up to 92 friends and I'd like to only add people if I need to trade/battle them or they really need my friend safari.

But still it's weak to a lot of common special attacks. So buffing SpDef is good.

Well, actually, its special attack is 95...not stellar, but not really "low" :smalltongue:. But that's me being pedantic.

Also I've found that an Aegislash that runs a Weakness Policy and focuses on boosting its speed can easily sweep quite a few pokes. Since its defenses are phenomenal while you're boosting, you don't usually fear a OHKO...even a +1 snorlax's Earthquake only did ~75% to an HP/Attack EV'd Aegislash. It's even better if you also run King's Shield, that way you can block priority attacks from certain obvious users (lucario/scizor for example) and mutilate their attack at the same time, forcing a switch and giving you more time to boost. Of course, it's really weak to certain things (slowbro and Flame Body pokes :smallfurious:) so it's not all peachy keen. Though I think if this Aegislash runs Shadow Claw instead of Shadow Sneak, it might be able to secure an OHKO on the slowbro. Leaving off priority would open you up to other things, though.

You have to be really fashionable to get the ponytail; you get it at the same time you get pigtails, I believe. I use it with my summer and fall outfits, it looks really great.

Wow, I am liking Mega Garchomp more and more. I just wish I could get a shiny one - apparently a shiny Mchomp is ~purple!~

Its base 120 special attack lets it function as a sort of mixed sweeper, only you rarely need to actually invest in special attack. I use Fire Blast/Outrage/Earthquake/Poison Jab to great effect - I've seen many Avaluggs sent at me, only to crumble to a Fire Blast. I haven't yet had the pleasure to use it on any 4x weaks or Skarmory, though. :smallfrown:

Custap gives you +1 priority, not Speed IIRC

It's not priority, it moves you to the top of your priority bracket, much like the Quick Claw occasionally does. Stall, Lagging Tail, and Full Incense do the reverse.

Could I have Staryu and a Shroomish?

Your pick on whether you want one of my 31/31/31/x/31/31s or my Hex-31s. Have plenty of either sex.

It's not priority, it moves you to the top of your priority bracket, much like the Quick Claw occasionally does. Stall, Lagging Tail, and Full Incense do the reverse.

...Ah, so if the Avalugg used Avalanche it wouldn't have worked anyway since Avalanche is -4 priority. Okay.

I better go revise my bug report on Showdown then >->;

There's actually a really, really easy way to do EV training now: hordes!

If you have EXP share on, your pokemon all get EVs from the defeated wild pokemon. THis means you can, say, OHKO a group of 5 wingulls with your level 100 florges or whatever using Dazzling GLeam, and suddenly your level 1 Gible with pokerus and a power weight/brace/thinger gains 50 speed EVs!

However, super training IS fun, and sometimes I do EV training through it simply because it is such fun...

Something I found very interesting for the first time in the series (officially, I think), when you first meet the Pokemon Professor for this region:

You actually battle him! And hell, even better, he has a full, 3D battle model. I know that there was battle data for Professor Oak in RBY, but you could never battle him without cheating/glitching.

Anyway, back to play X for an hour or two before bed.

Wow... I figured I'd get ahead of the curve with my Pokedex, and breed a Bulbasuar to trade for a Charmander on the GTS (you know, since other people probably chose Charmander and want the other Kanto starters).

Turns out, I was horribly wrong. All people want for their Level 1 Charmanders are 1-of-a-kind legendaries, like Xerneas, Zapdos, Articuno, or Mewtwo. -.-

Seriously people? It took me forever to get out of the LEGENDARY pile, and find people requesting reasonable things. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a single person looking for a Bulbasaur (at least not one that isn't "Level 70 to Level 80.").

Sheesh... so stupid.

So... if anyone on here needs a Bulbasaur and happens to have a spare Charmander (in Egg form or hatched), I'd be perfectly willing to trade. Otherwise, I guess I'll keep scrolling to see if anyone actually wants to trade reasonably.

Edit: After some clever filtering, I managed to find a total of THREE people willing to trade Charmander for Bulbasaur. I promptly took them up on it, and now have my very own Charmander. Wooh. ^_^

For future use, if you already have a specific pokemon you want to trade away, it is most likely faster to put it up for trade and request the pokemon you want- you can manually type in the species of pokemon, even if you haven't seen it now. New trade requests show up first in GTS, so people looking for your pokemon typically see your trade before the N weeks old legendaries.

Hi all, I'm back from Magical Lawyer Land. Time to get my pokem-on.
About GTS, bulls%t: I've never understood why people are blocking the trade with impossible requests. They can't get anything that way and they block trades for themselves. People are weird.

Luckily, you can filter out most of the junk: use the magnifying glass icon to set the filter for "only show trades of pokemon you own".

I've been using this. (http://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/1ounim/list_of_horde_encounters_and_ev_values_useful_for/) Not sure if it has ALL horde encounters in, and sometimes its "rare" seems to be more frequent then well, its "frequent", but it makes EV training a breeze.

To be fair, the future Champion is hardly going to ride anything less than the very top-of-the-line fancy bikes. :P

That, and for a bit of fridge brilliance perhaps, bikes in the Pokémon world are entirely unnecessary. People fly from town to town on their Pokémon and surf across oceans on them. If things like cruise ships and bikes were considered very luxury items because everyone uses their Pokémon to get around, it'd make sense they're so expensive. There's no need, after all, for cheap bikes or cheap boat fares in a world where Pokémon can get you where you need to go without costing you a thing.

Wait, if they changed his name to Blue, did they get rid of the line about him not picking a Pokemon based on his name like Red?

No, they changed the line, so that he picks Squirtle not because it matches his name but because it's Water-type.

Wow, I managed to avoid an entire thread of pokemon while keeping myself off spoilers. :smalleek::smallamused:

In any case, I finally got a copy of Pokemon Y. Just got my Froakie.

I ended up spending a bunch of time trying to figure out a name for my PC (picked female since I'd not done that in a while and she has a nice hat, and my initial name, "Forrest", didn't mix with feminine pronouns well at all XD)... Finally picked one... and proceeded to be tormented by two more nickname choices right afterwards...

I can definately recommend "My Lord" as the nick name (or "my Lady" as appropriate) as endless hilarious!

Yes, peons, worship at my feet! Ahahahahahaha!

(This being especially facilitated by using Bleakbane as the PC name this time around. I can't remember now, but I have a feeling that it was too long in prior gens... Wasn't the PC name only like up to seven or eight characters? I'm pretty sure it was shorter than the Pokemon names anyway.)

Serebii has prices for the Pokemon Bank subscription per year thingy.
United Kingdom Ł4.49
Europe €4.99
Australia $6.50
New Zealand $8.50
US $4.99
Japan 500 Ą

I've already dealt with currency conversion enough at work, someone else can Google the math to see how fair it is.

Any idea what you plan to use them for or what moveset you're running or what the rest of the team looks like? I guess Black Sludge is always an option for Dragalge... I wanna go with some damage booster for Meowstic, but it's kinda frail for Life Orb and I could see it running enough of a support set that Specs would be kinda silly.

Europe and the UK are paying a bit more. I think the yen and the cent are about equivalent now. No idea about Australia or New Zealand.

In the US alone (let's round it up to $5) it translates to $0.42 a month, which is significantly less than the cost of either a 3DS or your copy of Pokemon X/Y. Hell, there's games that sell DLC for less than what they're selling the Bank for.

Both.

I have an abundance of 6 IV fletchlings. I found a German player and gave her two of these in return for her breeding me a new perfect one from the parents I gave her; took her about 8 eggs. I took the child she gave me and bred it with one of my other perfects. All told, the process of hunting someone down who was willing to help me, wonder trading extras, breeding up to perfect parents, etc, took me from about October 20th 'til now.

Well for Scizor, the Technician ability gives you a better move-pool as it powers up moves that wouldn't even be competitive otherwise. Most builds use Bullet Punch because it's a STAB Technician-boosted Priority move.

Adamant, Careful, and Lax are all good natures for Scizor

As for EVs, depends what you're going for, but for the most part most Scizor builds rely on its great defenses while shoring up his rather pitiful special defense by investing in HP and SpD EVs. With the Assault Vest giving one SpD combat stage bonus to Scizor he can probably become a solid tank yet the inability to use moves like Swords Dance with it on is really going to hurt his ability to sweep. It's worth rememebring that Scizorite is a thing, but not strictly necessary.

That and HP/Att Ev's with 6 in SpD choice band sets are strong too. That Stab Bullet Punch is that strong. Just don't be reckless, that low hp can let you down.

Alright, now to figure out how to breed and get good IV's.

Basically you put a destiny knot on one pokemon and an Everstone on the other. The everstone passes nature down 100% of the time. The destiny knot passes down 5 iv's from both parents. So you just keep adding better parents to the chain as you get them from eggs. Lots of incest. http://www.reddit.com/r/pokemon/comments/1otqx0/tutorial_everything_i_know_about_iv_breeding_in/ This should explain it better than me.

Might have one eeveeloution because eevees are awesome, so what are the best eeveeloutions?

I beleive Jolteon, Espeon, and Vaporeon are generally the best of the eeveelutions. Sylveon may have a place up there as well, but it's still probably too eary to say.

Each of the three eeveelutions I mentioned has very difference rolls.

Vaporeon is quite tanky and has a lot of handy utility moves like Scald, Heal Bell, Wish, and of course the always useful Toxic and Protect.
Espeon has great utility In Magic Bounce, allowing you to toss all kinds of things back in your opponent's face. It also makes use of Baton Pass frequently.
Jolteon is all power and speed, making it a very good sweeper. a 110 Sp Attack stat backed by 130 base Speed is fantastic.

Umbreon is pretty good too. Usually see Toxic, Moonlight, Protect, and I forget the other. It's been a while since I played online. And my friend who plays online a lot says his Sylveon is working pretty well for him.

I have so much freaking Friend Safari luck. :smalleek: ANOTHER shiny Phantump, which I gave to my friend, and then a shiny Fletchinder I almost ran away from.

Like... Dangit. :smalleek:

Some research is being done on the Friend Safari, and it appears that shininess goes way up once both friends have beaten the Elite Four and used the Friend Safari at least once. People have reported finding shinies in under 40 minutes of searching; in one thread on Smogon (can't remember which), it was stated that of all the information they gathered, the shortest amount of time before a shiny was something like 35 minutes, while the longest was only about 5 hours.

I think they said the average rate in the Safari is about 1 in 600...it's not confirmed to be that, but that's what they're hypothesizing.

Hurrah!
After chain-fishing 94 times yesterday, and planning to call the whole thing off, I chain-fished 2 shiny pokemon today. Of course, They're not perfect or even above average, but at least their natures aren't hindering.
My first shiny, ever (except for the red Gyarados of course) was a red-striped Basculin. A bit disappointing as it's hardly any different than the normal version. Lighter green instead of light green. Still, a shiny's a shiny. Is there anthing that can be done with Basculin other than wondertrading it?
My second shiny was a remoraid and I'm quite happy, as I've wanted to try it for a long time. Octopi are cool.

Time to get to the safari and try to capture some rare mons. Anyone got a koffing maybe? I kinda want a tank.

So this is going to be my basic strategy to get a good pokemon.

1. use everstone to get correct nature I want (ie. adamant on scyther)
2. use everstone on scyther, and destiny knot on ditto with IV's I want.
3. repeat until I have 2 scythers with a bunch of Perfect IV's.
Edit: 3.5 then breed them 1 with everstone 1 with destiny knot.
4.???
5. profit.

Edit: Is this basically right?

Um...if you want to skip a step, I have a bunch of Rapid Spin Anorith if you want one, not sure on IVs on them, as I've been trading most of them away on GTS, but I think some of them are 4IVs, and all are Timid already...basically leftovers from my Timid 5IV [all but speed] Armaldo with Rapid Spin and Assault Vest. So, over the course of the last couple of weeks - given that I've had to go and pick my niece from school a couple of times - I tackled all sixteen gym leader rematched back-to-back. (I tell you, setting all that up was such a freaking PAIN.)

Fracking hell, bit of a step up from Blaine to Blue, isn't there? Everyone else is 52-60-ish and then ruddy Gary Oak shows up with his 68-72s!

Still beat 'im on the first pass, despite the unpleasant surprise of Tyrannitaur switching in mid Dig on my Arcanine. (He was just getting twitchy my 8-level-lower Arcanine was beatin' his...)

I think I had most trouble (today) with Surge, since Electrivire has Earthquake (and again, poor Coruscate, who's Dig generally is the team's anti-fire/anti-electric - since half the team are vulnerable to electric, got KO'd.)

I had to do a reset on Misty, since I while I was expecting Starmie, I wasn't expecting her to lead with it, but once I sent Amphareos in first, she went down easily.

I actually had a run of notably GOOD luck for once, as well a couple of times, like when I got arse-backwards and sent out Scyther to fight Lapras. Bladerush is pretty solid, though and wing attack is potent, but if it's Blizzard hadn't completely missed she'd have been sunk.

Surge's Electrodfe was most tedious, though, since after a bitter fight with my Ampharous (after being brought to the red at least once) it decided to throw teddy out of the pram and explode, meaning I didn't even get any XP for it. (Normally, that'd be cause for reload, but Surge was giving me enough gyp (having to basically fight him only half my team and only Dig as a super-effective move, I let him have it.)

I swept Blaine completely with Feraligatr. Magmortar's Thunderbolt just wasn't quite strong enough... (And Hellbore's not even got any defensive investments!)

Oh, not with no breaks to the Pokemon centre for healing, oh frag no! I'm not even close to that good!

(And my team were only in upper fifties... I'm not sure without legendaries, being significantly higher level or some having really serious hurtage (I dunno, The Best Sweeper or something) you could fight 96 Pokemon in a row without a break. An expert might be able to do it, but I ain't that level!)

I meant I had got all sixteen standing around in the dojo at once (making them wait about eight months in the dojo for me to dain to come fight them is penance for being so flippin' hard to get hold of, I figure.)

Did you receive it in Gen V and thus it tells you it's from Gen IV, or did you actually first receive it in Gen IV?

Gen IV hack tools (especially the early ones) were a lot sloppier about legitimacy on the whole, while by mid-Gen V, they got it down to art pretty much. (Gen IV and V run on nearly the same engine and have almost the exact same .pkm data structure.) However, it could have been created in Gen V and made to look like a Gen IV uptrade. Or it could be a really well-crafted Gen IV hack (rare, but they did exist.)

That's actually what people just figured out that the little pentagon next to each of your pokemon means (before the markings options). That it was rightfully "obtained," or some such.

This pentagon is a confirmation of being obtained in-game. If your Pokémon has this, it confirms it was obtained legitimately in-game or through event. If not, then it has an error and has been hacked, or potentially from another region.

The literal definition of this pentagon, given by the Pokémon Company, is that the Pokémon is ok to use. This came from the rules of the upcoming Dragon tournament in Japan where, on looking deeper into the fine print, it is stated that Pokémon that were transferred from Black, White, Black 2 & White 2 cannot be used. There is a possibility that the mark could be for Pokémon obtained natively in the Kalos region, with other marks for Pokémon transferred, but this will not be made clear until December 25th when Pokémon Bank is released
