I know that according to Taint rules that undead are immune to the affects of taint, and they are immune to mind-affecting abilities.

But are they immune to things that affect sanity (from the sanity varient rules or anything else that can affect sanity).

They'd be immune to certain things that cause Sanity loss (for example, undead would not be subject to fear-causing spells and abilities) and they should be highly resistant to others, such as encountering weird and unnatural creatures - such things are simply not as shocking when you yourself are one of the very definitions of a weird and unnatural being. But I don't see anything that says they're completely immune to Sanity loss, although you could extrapolate that they should be based on the effect of the Mindblank spell.

Personally, I'd have it be that intelligent undead do not often lose more Sanity, but they do *start* with very low ratings and probably have a permanent insanity or two already.. because the process of becoming undead is horrifying and probably involved significant delving into Forbidden Lore, especially if you did it/had it done willingly such as a Lich or Necropolitan.

Depends on the undead. Some undead are quite sane and sound. Others...not so much.

Vampires tend to have the highest sanity levels, and liches are also on the high end. Mummies might also be saner.

Why are vampires sane? Because a vampire that can't effortlessly and easily blend in to its surroundings is quickly going to have every Paladin and Cleric in the land up his rump.

So the vampires that live to be 400 years old have survived 400 years of Paladins and clerics trying to kill them. You can't do that if you're cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

Vampire also tend to stick near their food source. Vampire are by nature cosmopolitan and not dungeon delving encountering cthuloid abomination every other week undead.

A vampire sanity is not an intrinsec part of being a vampire so much as it is a result of their prefered lifestyle.
