First time thread
So i have this friend who's a huge fan of genies and would like to play one. So he suggested homebrewing a race/class genie.

Im kinda into the idea but im stumped as to how to design this class.
Which brings me here to the playground, do you guys have any ideas or links i could use for inspiration?
He's really into the disney Genie from Alladin so im thinking a caster with a plethora of wacky class features to complement.

All four of the planetouched races are descended from geniekind. That would be a balanced way to allow it.

Sylphs = Djinn descended
Oreads = Shaitan descended
Undines = Marid descended
Ifrits = Efreet descended
Suli = Jann descended

Of particular interest is the Wishcrafter (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-ifrit/wishcrafter-sorcerer-ifrit) Ifrit, a sorcerer archetype that lets you grant the "wishes" of your party members using your spells. You can also grant, and gleefully twist, those of your enemies.

Oslecamo's Improved Monster Classes where Oslecamo homebrews custom savage species like classes for monsters with the goal of each level of the class being equal to 1 CR.

Here is the Air Genie

Classwise, a Djinni Bloodline sorcerer seems appropriate.

You might also consider taking the Sha'ir classes from 3.5's Dragon Compendium and update it for PF.

For sake of completeness, there are also Suli "generic" Genie descendents.
While the other four are "descendent from beings aligned with the elements, such as [genie type]", Sulis are _strictly_ genie-related.

But for what you/your friend wants, Ifrit > Wishcrafter is probably the best option (and definitely easier than just letting him play a Genie as a PC).

There's also Savage Species, if you want to use that.

But tell him he's gotta rub you the right way before letting him play it. :smallyuk:

Good point, added. Note though that all 5 are descended from true genies, Suli just happen to come from the weakest of them all. So any of them will work.

I dunno about Pathfinder specifically, but checking the Community Based Monster Classes (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=182724)thread, both Djinni (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=7960967&postcount=43)and Janni (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showpost.php?p=9242948&postcount=141)have been written up. They should be easy to port to PF.

There's also the Daivrat (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/prestige-classes/other-paizo/c-d/daivrat) genie-themed prestige class.

It lets you snag a spell from any spell list to cast for the day and fits in relatively well with some of the genie races, you even get a tiny genie familiar!

Woah so many replies so fast, you guys rock! :smallbiggrin:

He already knows about the races and archetype but would prefer playing as a full-blown genie/djinni. So im thinking of streching the custom monster class to acommodate 20 lvls or during something similiar to the savage species and combine with the wishbound arcana.
Thank you so much for helping :smallsmile:

As I understand it, after taking the X levels of the monster class you effectively are a normal monster of that type, and then move on to take "normal" base classes. In the end, you wind up as a genie sorcerer 15 or something, like if you'd eaten the LA.

In any case, I'd be careful about stretching a 5-level class into a 20-level one. It's likely to get reaaaally thin. (Unless you pop over to the Homebrew section and start filling in advanced super-genie powers, I guess)

Take 5 levels of Genie from the Improved Monster Classes (what Grod_The_Giant posted is the same thing I posted, but the author has posted his classes on multiple forums.)

1 Level of Something with Good Fort and Will save and as a DM reflavor Ur Priest. With cleric casting you can emulate the divine abilities and wish fulfillment pretty well of what a Genie is supposed to do.
